This is the fourth of my "walk through" videos of aviation museums that I visited during my three day planned layover in the Los Angeles area between Parts 1 & 2 of my "Train Odyssey 2". In addition to these museums, I also have videos for my walk throughs of the Petersen Automotive Museum, the Queen Mary, and the San Diego Automotive Museum (part of the Petersen video). Later in the same trip, I visited the Evergreen Aviation & Space Museum and there will be a video for that as well.

I could sit there all day and watch planes go over to the San Diego Airport.

The interesting part is with the space capsule area is that it was like that in the 80's when I visited the museum.

Thanks, brought back good memeries. I couldn't believe the PSA exhibition was still there. My Dad worked for them in San Diego till they got bought out by USAIR.

Space Shuttle Endeavour with its external fuel tank is located in the CA science center in LA. They are also in process of getting the solid rocket boosters. The center also has a small amount of aircraft and spacecraft on display. You should check it out and make a video of it.

The Convair Sea dart outside the museum prototype blew up on takeoff in San Diego harbor.I worked with a man who was in the Navy and stationed aboard a ship in San Diego when that happened.

Only a few Sea Darts were made. One disintegrated in the air when the pilot exceeded the aircraft's limitations. The Sea Dart at the San Diego museum belongs the the Naval aviation museum in Pensacola, and is on loan from them. Looking at the operation history of the Sea Dart, I did not find any mention of any "blowing up" anywhere, unless you count the previously mentioned failure as "blowing up".....that one was more like "falling apart". And the one in San Diego hardly looks like an airplane that had been "blown up". If you have more concrete information, other some guy you know telling you a story, I would like to hear it.

One of my favorite museums since childhood. The building is supposedly representative of the Ford V8 logo. I really enjoy your museum walk-throughs, subscribed!

When I was there in 2000 they had some pieces on display which were still charred from an earlier museum fire that did much destruction.

A-12 not SR-71. Nose chines are more slender, and there are no second cockpit windows. Easy mistake to make.

I like your videos guy, You’ve been a lot of places I’d like to visit. I sincerely hope you can find a safer thing than filming and driving though. That seems dangerous right ?
@youtuuba
@youtuuba 2 жыл бұрын
Robert Bardos, I have a technique for free-hand 'filming' while driving that I put a lot of thought into, and have used for as long as there have been small handheld devices that will take video. It is no more dangerous than scratching my ear while I drive. It is much less distracting for me than talking to another person in the car, even less than listening to, for example, a radio talk show.

I still think they should develop a modern Sea Dart. With existing technology, I think it would be doable today and allow close offensive capabilities before expensive carriers are sent in. There is a lot of hubris on carrier defensive capabilities that sound a lot like the battleship captains before Dec. 7, 1941.

No flying boat/float plane can safely operate from the open sea. There is no way that such a craft along the lines of the Sea Dart would work effectively in the way that carrier based aircraft can. So, think again.....

So how do you tell a replica from a non replica. Mock up from a non mock up? Love your videos. Keep up the good work.

Poor Fisherman, I look at the information sign by the aircraft, which says if it is a replica.

Way to many models and reproductions to get me to go to that museum. The world war 2 set up looks good hats off to the people came up with the idea with the zero passing the F4F Wildcat taken by surprise on the deck with it's wings folded. The 109 is such a rare aircraft that life size models are the way to go then to find and restore a real 109.

I concur. All those models, reproductions, mock-ups, and displays were jammed into very limited spaces. They tried to do too much and it led to the point of clutter.

Interesting...that Spitfire Mk XVI ( 16) was the only Mark Spitfire powered by the Packard built merlin 266, 1054 of them built !!! Most of the Packard Built Merlins went to the Lancaster Mk Biii And Canadian built Mk X, 3,440 of them as well as 1500 Mosquitos and 1200 Hurrycanes !!!! Allied co operation and one way the USA saved the Brits asses in WW II !!!!

basically this museum is all replicas and mockups

Jose Miguel, that is nonsense, or at least very inaccurate, unless they have made MAJOR changes to the collection in the last couple years. They do have a number of replicas, but then so does the Smithsonian and US Air Force Museum. San Diego had more vintage planes than replicas when I was there a couple years ago.

WHAT DO YOU MEAN THE SPIRIT OF ST LOUIS PLANE IS A REPLICA!! I THOUGHT IT WAS THE REAL THING... :(
@youtuuba
@youtuuba 3 жыл бұрын
NevadaCountryMusic, WHY ARE YOU YELLING? The "Spirit of Saint Louis" is not a replica of anything, it is at the National Air & Space Museum. The plane on display in San Diego is a reproduction, or at least some similar looking plane, that is standing in for the Spirit of Saint Louis.

@@larryblanks6306 , well, the Spirit of St. Louis is not at "the Smithsonian" (which is a group of museums, not a particular one), it is at the National Air & Space Museum.
