One of my favorite part in the movie ; Landon Carter ( Shane West ) fulfilled the No. 01 wish of Jamie Sullivan (Mandy Moore) to marry in the church where their parents were married. The two start a relationship, much to the chagrin of Landons old friends and Jamie strict reverend father. But when a heart-breaking secret becomes know that puts their relationship to the test, it is then that Landon and Jamie realize the true meaning of LOVE and FATE.

This is one of the most heart touching movie marriage proposals ever ..He helped her complete her #1 and most important wish which was to get married in the same church as her parents..This movie allowed us to watch how Jamie's love for God turn a wild and self-centered boy into a loving and selfless young man..I end up bawling my eyes out every time I watch the ending of this beautifully made movie..

I didn't feel like they did this scene justice from the books. It's called 'A Walk To Remember' because by the time of the wedding she is so frail she can't stand up, however she musters the strength to walk to him on the day of the wedding, and then spends the rest of the ceremony in a wheelchair.

@shanghainoon7829
@shanghainoon7829 8 жыл бұрын
I have to disagree. She is literally dying long before Landon asks her to marry him and before he built the telescope for her. We already get the impression that she is frail, but she still agrees to marry him as a sign of strength. Her walking through the church doors is like a final act of rebellion because she was expected to die before enjoying the one moment that every girl dreams about. A type of middle finger to God.

Ray Schwarz plus Mandy was 18 when the movie came out and probably 17 when it was filmed and Shane was 6 yrs older, so I think a sex scene would have been out of the question or weird. Imdb says it was filmed in 39 day's despite only having the limitations of 10 hr day's due to Mandy being a minor

kekeduggs Yep, it's a tear jerker like Here On Earth, which is the same premise, starring Lee Lee Sobieski and Chris Klein. These movies don't always get the greatest reviews from the professional critics, however, they reach their audience on an emotive level that serves to eventually make them classics. Which goes to show how little most critics know about reviewing movies, and how romantic most people are deep down in their own hearts....

The final scene where he goes to her father’s house was absolutely perfect. It shows how much their relationship has grown. At first he did not trust Landon at all, and Landon did not like him. But as he watched Landon not leave Jaime’s side he realized how much Landon loves his daughter and grew to respect and love Landon. It was so powerful.

The one thing to me in the Book that had a profound effect on me was the fact that after they Married & after she passed was that he grew old, never remarried, & still in his old age was still wearing his wedding ring & what upset me at the ending was yes he was still young but he wasn’t wearing his wedding ring !! So to me that took a big emotional part out of the Movie for me, he could have been wearing the Wedding Ring & have his older self narrate that part of the book.
@VonFisch1
@VonFisch1 Жыл бұрын
Right, he didn't have the ring on four years later in this movie. That and returning the book kind of takes the wind out of my sails. It's hard either way, it would be sad if he stayed single for the rest of his life from 18 years of age or moves on and finds someone else.

No, Landon didn't have the ring on four years later. In fact, if you watch the scene, they make it a point to show the bare finger when he slowly takes his sunglasses off with his left hand at the door. Then they show Reverend Carter take his reading glasses off and he is still wearing his wedding band. That and returning the book makes me think he's moving on.
@rwwilson21
@rwwilson21 Жыл бұрын
@@VonFisch1 If you have the DVD and listen to the commentary, the writer of the screenplay actually said in one draft she wrote him not going back to the house to return the book. but to give back his wedding ring bc he fell in love with someone else. Even though in the book, remember in the book Landon is looking back on this year as a 57 year old man. not four years ago like in the movie, he says "I still love her, you see, and I've never removed my ring. in all these years I've never felt the desire to do so." I haven't watch this movie in whole for years but looking back on it now, they should have structure the movie like the book. having Landon as an old man and have something make him remember that year, making us get pulled into his memory. example: the quote from the reverend that's was written down in Jamie's book. a book that was given to Landon from Jamie. lets say he kept the book but he hasn't seen it for 35-40 years. and one day he's in the basement or up in the attic of his house and finds it in a box. he starts to flip through it and the page lands on the quote. He starts reading it. the quote fades away as he does the memory of that year slowly crosses his mind and we come with it. in that version there are questions that the viewers are gonna want answers too: 1. Who gave him the book? 3. why is the quote important? 4. what is the full quote? 3. Why is this year special?

The simplicity and realism of the story make it perfect. I remember seeing it when mom got it on DVD from goodwill in 2008, and complaining for the first 20 minutes before getting invested in the story and actually caring.

+Marie-Louise I think in the book they are married for 2 years. However in the book the author never mentioned she "died died" just that she grew more sick, and that their love was forever

That film had me weeping with tears. One of my favourite Mandy Moore films . Tangled and Chasing liberty are the other two I like but Tangled is my all time favourite. She's a good actress and singer. Shane West was hilarious in Get Over It but he was great in this movie.
