A Warhammer YouTube LEGEND sent me these minis.... and I'm TERRIFIED of painting them!

Dave from MiniWargaming sent me a whole bunch of Ravaged Star minis to paint up - but they're so detailed I'm terrified of painting them! Thankfully I had some help from some Warhammer painting youtube to offer me some advice to get them done!

Hey man, they turned out lovely. Great use of contrast paint over the zenithal primer. Honestly, you’re under selling your painting skills here mate. Painting that trim shows the accuracy and control you have. Maybe give ‘em a varnish and add in some extra highlights and push ‘em to that next level? You might just surprise yourself 👍🏻

Looking good. The Streak and Grime came out really well but I would have panicked slopping it on over the paint job!!😂

I was a bit nervous, but had faith in the process. What’s great about it is you can add more if you need to, or pretty much take it all away after it’s gone on. It’s very versatile!

I think you've done a great job with those Benji, I might have gone with more of a bronze (Balthazar Gold is a goto for me) for the trim but I can't fault anything you've done there, you're a much better painter than you give yourself credit for imo.

Thanks for your kind words! It was a bit of a toss up between which metallic I went with for the trim - gold, bronze or copper-y. I did do a sneaky test model and loved the way the gold looked, so went with it 😊

Haha! I’m not going to lie, I did put them off for a while 😅 But I’m sooo glad that I got them painted and I’m definitely thinking I might end up buying some Ravaged Star boxes as Chaos Space Marine proxies!

Shipping alone to IE is 36 USD. But then with Tax for IE/EU it works out around 75 USD total. Meaning its around 180 EUR for a single set of Minis, which while beautiful, I'd rather buy a GW Box set that comes with a rulebook and terrain for that price range.

I dont think ive seen anyone do this ... but just like airbrushing the streak and grime can you do the same with an oil wash ? I cant recall ever seeing anyone airbrush oil paints as a wash or otherwise. Streak and grime is enamel correct ?

I can’t see any reason why you couldn’t but make sure you wear a suitable respirator etc if you’re going to try it!

Love the mini’s, paint job SMH was looking good then you took the short cut with lazy and grime with artist spirits. Little more detail and a simple combination of wases and or contrast or layer colors it would have been awesome in my opinion your painting is not bad it is the willingness to commit and apply your effort in time and energy. That you are below average painter is a cop out. You prove ability when you painted the detail trim in retributor gold.

I’m a grown man that plays with tiny plastic toys, and no snowflake, but I’m trying to encourage my kids into the hobby. Most channels, including Dave’s, don’t have swearing. It’s a real turn off from an otherwise engaging video.

My bad… I had fully intended to bleep it at the beginning but forgot during the edit. I don’t normally swear in my videos and when I do I more often than not will bleep it. I’ll keep the swearing to a minimum in the future 😊
