Hoi An is a touristy ancient town, but the cost of living is surprisingly affordable. Tips to avoid getting hustled and bothered on the streets in Hoi An: Do not communicate with street vendors unless you want to buy something. If the street vendors offer you something you don't want, just say "Thank you," and walk away. If you need to buy or find something in Hoi An, ask the clerk/manager of the hotel where you stay. They know. Have fun and be safe!
@StephandPete
@StephandPete 2 жыл бұрын
Yes! We were really surprised how somewhere so touristy could also have so much local flavor, low-key restaurants, etc...We didn't find the vendors to be a hassle at all, maybe because we mostly stayed out of the tourist center, or maybe because after living in Shanghai and Mumbai, we're quite used to it. Thanks for watching and commenting on our video!

@@StephandPete Please remember to always have life jackets with you and little Hays when on basket boats. We all love kids to pieces, they are precious. I noticed in the last video when you were first at the airbn in Hoi An, and little Hays immediately ran to the pool. Please watch out! Never ever leave him alone there. Things happen quickly. We’d love to visit those places but the program we’re a part of with Airbnb mandates that we stay in one place for month to get to know it, and Vietnam is unfortunately only issuing 30 day visas. 😢 We’d like to come back and spend more time.

Hays - and parents, too! - look like you're having the time of your lives! I loved how there's so much to do there and everything is uber cool looking. Most travel vloggers are in and out of Hoi An so I had no idea it had all that to offer! What an amazing and magical place to experience. I bet you never want to leave. But your hubby is wrong, it doesn't have everything; it's missing the beautiful limestone karsts/mountains, which I absolutely love in the Ninh Binh (Tam Coc), Ha Long Bay, and Ha Giang Loop area. I think if they had that nearby, then it'd be perfect for me. :)

It's a beautiful country, but unless you find the right videos, you'd never know. If you're interested, watch Flora and Note's videos of Vietnam (especially the 2 from Ninh Binh/Tam Coc...the drone footage was out of this world). Also check out Paddy Doyle's videos from there (episode 6 is beyond amazing!!) and Kinging-It is totally killing it with their entertaining videos. :) Sammy and Tommy's videos are really beautiful, so definitely check out their videos as they are more slower travelers (they're just putting them out but their trip was from 2 years ago).

@@jomontanee As far as Western youtubers in Vietnam...Sonny from the Best Ever Food Review Show lives there (the best food vlogger...way better than that creepy Mark Wiens), but he does videos from all over the world (he used to focus on more Vietnamese videos when he was starting out a few years ago...some of his best and entertaining content). Max McFarlin lived in Arkansas, but moved there a couple of years ago and he does AMAZING food vlogs. Chris Lewis is from Colorado. Vietnam Meets Dustin is from California (he's one crazy dude, but I love his videos). And Phuc Map is from Florida (he makes really funny videos). All live there now and vlog from there.

Hello! I’ve been watching your vlog because we’re heading to Hoi An in March. Absolutely LOVED this video, it’s really getting me excited for our trip with our toddler! We’ve actually planned to stay in Hoi An for nearly the entirety of our three weeks in Vietnam because we prefer slow travel in the same spot. It’ll really just be about us immersing ourselves and our little one in the culture and basically just doing all the eating of new foods. We generally do long term travel (months or years at a time) but we’re based in our hometown now as our son grows so we’re hoping spending this much time in Hoi An is suitable. What are your thoughts on three weeks in Hoi An? We’re splitting our accom between Ancient Town and An Bang Beach. We’re also adding some time in Da Nang as that’s where we fly into from Sydney. I’d love to hear your thoughts and absolutely adore your content! 🙏🏻

I'm so sorry I'm late to responding to this! We were in Hoi An a month and were constantly scheming on how to live there part of the year so you'll have no problem spending most of your three weeks there. It's got it all! Old town (quite touristy), rice paddies, beach, etc. My personal preference is to stay outside of the old town and rent bikes. Then you're near the action, but also in a more local area with beautiful fields, etc. and also sort of halfway between Old Town and the beach. We didn't feel the need to stay in An Bang at all, but did go enjoy the beach for a couple of days (it was a 15 min Grab from our Airbnb.) Have a GREAT trip!
