A WEEK IN THE LIFE OF A SHEEP FARMER.
It's the last week of summer ‘break’ here on the farm…
It’s sometimes hard to summarize what we do daily on the farm, because every day looks different. Everyday, plans change…weather changes, stuff breaks.
But I thought I’d take you along a typical week in my shoes here on our farm.
And how everything works in unison, even on the days when it feels like polar opposite.
Lambs need weighed, pens need cleaned, manure needs spread, cover crop needs planted.
And somehow…it all gets done.
What do you all do on your last full week of summer break?

Thank you!! This was highly educational for my early grades to watch!! They love watching the lambs and seeing how everything works together!! Thank you!!!

I must praise you and Mark on raising two really great kids! They help out and seem to have great attitudes about being part of the team. I am retired but watch many different farm KZfaq channels. It amazes me the amount of extra work it takes to raise livestock. I grew up right across the lake from you in the thumb. In 1977 I worked on a farm for sugar beet harvest, and it was the only job I ever had that I enjoyed the hard work because at the end of the day I could see the fruits of my labor! Keep on making the great video's!!!

My favorite thing to do when I helped my father-in-law on his farm was taking the corn to the grain mill and have them grind it up with a large block of molasses and vitamins for his calves. I was usually hungry and wished I could eat the stuff cause it smelled so good

Continue to be amazed and impressed by the range and size and number of pieces of farm machinery you have (and I was brought up on a farm.) you are the only person I know who could match my father for work intensity and knowledge of stock, feed, growth rates etc.Roll on September. Time for the lambs again. BTW the current lambs in the barn are looking pretty good.

Lamb burger on the grill!!!😀 fantastic! Just sold the last of our spring lambs. Prices were pretty good for this time of year,so we were pleased . Trying to get the last cut of hay made. Hard to do with our kids back in school. Also getting sheep projects ready for county fair. Lots of work. Great video as always! Thanks Sandi!

While watching past segments I came across *49 which had me in a flood of tears. This episode, while sad, tells me that you made a wise choice to do what you do. The daughter having other options is a great thing. Farming is pretty tough. There are many other career options that are way less stressful and pay a whole lot better in the sense of $$. Effective farming is a 24/7/365 full commitment. Not everyone is willing to make that career choice.

Watching Sandi and her family has made me realize, appreciate, and be in awe of just how extremely hard farming is. I have friends nearby who have a small cattle farm, which they've dubbed No Rest Farm. There is no time off. I don't know what they do when they're sick. Sandi's sheep farm is bigger than my friend's farm, and I just don't know how she does it. I also don't know how she handles the emotions of adoring the baby lambs, then 5 months later they're sold, presumably for meat? I don't think I could do an this, but I'm a city girl who was never involved in farm life.

I love your videos Sandi. Save for the occasional visit to a relative's farm during my youth, nothing could be further from my experience. You and your family work so hard - it must be satisfying yet frustrating and sometimes worrisome all at the same time. You seem to take it all in stride though. Plus I like the Canadian cultural education moments. At first I thought "Timbits" might be some sort of edible sheep supplement! Only after a Google search did I realize it was a Canadian brand name for what we call doughnut holes in the US. Thanks for another great video. Cheers! :-)

Holy crap a $5,000 part! Never thought about breakdowns of those big machines and of course they’re expensive. It was just a shock to this Californian. I love watching Kinsey hovering at your barn door, let me in. Had to laugh when you mentioned having engineers do repair work. My Partner worked for 50 years at auto dealerships and swore many, many times he’d like to shoot engineers for some of their designs and make them work at least a year servicing and fixing them.

Sandi, another great video. I learned so much about sheep here. It's great to be done with harvest and get back to farming. You are right about full circle, people do not understand the effort that goes into ensuring the food chain is not interpreted . One question, how many head of sheep do you raise on average. My family's hog farm would raise at peak 900- 1,200 head. Stay safe.
