I think one of the most underrated skills is Project and Program Management for engineers. It's a skill that can be transferred to almost any field, which I think is very important to understand just in case anyone wants to change fields in the future. For any engineers out there, if you have the chance to assist a Project Manager, or lead a project, get on it! Unless of course, you love doing the technical work.

Many people in the work force love having a great title and not doing the work. I have encountered many people that let their ego get on the way of their work and never developed to the true potential they could have been.

15:38 The podcast seemed fine until you begun to put crap like diversity and inclusion in civil engineering jobs. Also you guys never talked about anything related to geotechnical engineering, its just Joanna talking about herself.

Aryton thanks for the feedback. When you say crap like diversity and inclusion in civil engineering, what do you mean by that?

@@EngineeringManagement The political aspect of it, people should enter the university by merits and hard work, not because you get preferential treatment just because of ethnicity. If you want an example of what i say look at this video "Affirmative Action is Racist | Change My Mind".

@@Ayrton-Da-Silva It is only a person who does not understand history that would make a statement like that. Diversity and Inclusion is necessary because we are moving closer to allowing all talent to be a part of making our nation great. In the past, women and all minorities including white ethnic minorities like Italians were shut out from being professionals. So there is a push to let people know they are welcome to come to the table. But people like yourself who want to pretend like that history never happened continue to spout nonsense in your attempts to keep things the way they always were. But that will never allow our country to achieve greatness. We must tap into all talent in America. Saying the things of the past were "based on merit" is just false when only white men were allowed into professions. Please read history and understand that history impacts the present, then you will understand why a push for Diversity and Inclusion is so important.

@@cgreenluxetveritas I am not american, so I cant talk about your country but we are not in the past, we are in the present and of today there is no limitation for people to pursue their dreams, claiming that today you cant become the best version of yourself (In this case an engineer) because of "lack of diversity and inclusion" is a self limiting mindset and simply a poor excuse to not put in the hard work to be honest. Also I suggest you to see the video I cited in my previous comment.

@@Ayrton-Da-Silva I think your first statement is key. You are not American so you do not know what you are talking about. You should learn more about out history so that you will understand where we are. The foundation of a building is like its history and what you see above structurally is impacted by what is underneath the surface. Similarly, to what is happening regarding Diversity and Inclusion, the need for it is predicated on what has happened in America in its past and in its present. Learn more so you will be less ignorant!
