A1 60163 Tornado Flattens Shap and Aisgill on the Border Raider 16/9/17.

LNER A1 60163 Tornado would be at the helm of Ukrailtour's excursion the Border Raider from Tame Bridge Parkway to Carlisle vie the 1 in 75 Shap bank and back via the S&C the same afternoon but due to the line being closed between Ciltheroe and Blackburn the A1 would travel via Gargrave and Standedge. We see 60163 at Shap Wells and Aisgill on the return . Only did Shap Wells again to see what sort of performance we would get compared to locos out of Carnforth . Please note that the first shot at Aisgill is on top of the new fence that replaced the collapsed wall with the extender plate on the tripod head taking the camera slightly to the right with me safely on the right side of the fence/wall .

Is this the best clip I have EVER seen of the S&C? That whistle and acoustic and beautiful angle of that scenery a FAVOURITE! A++!

Thanks David, I had wanted to do the angles for the last two shots for a while so I was pleased with the finished production I must admit .

Great shots of Tornado Steve - capturing her very well in full command of the job in hand. The haunting chime and echo at Ais Gill was rather special - quite by chance I was there last Sunday for Galatea dodging the showers, but no whistles and the gill was rather loud!

Thanks David , the chime whistle was a welcome bonus to be honest as I did note expect it. Must admit the gill was a bit noisy but not overly bad .

Great vid... especially the chime whistle echoing with such wonderful resonance around the valley at Aisgill! Impresssssive performance by Tornado :-)

Superb shots Steve, 'Tornado' handling the climbs with ease. Nice clear sky at Shap Wells giving a good view of the distant hills

Very good - I went to Shap, then was going to Aisgill - but saw the heavy rain there and decided not to stay. Your perseverance seems to have paid off!

Great shots Steve, your shot of the A1 on Angerholme edge worked very well and no doubt kept you out of the elements, it's not a easy trek to that spot is it ? A shame about the expected looping at Oxenholme, though the climb to Grayrigg was excellent considering the standing start.

Thanks Liam , the trees did shelter me a bit at Angerholme I must admit but I was glad the wall had been replaced with the fence as it did make the shot easier but a trek to get at like you say .

Terrific, Steve. Did you not get the heavy shower that passed over during the AisGill climb? Shap was excellent, too, and I notice she was feathering at the safety valve near the summit! Without clouds of black smoke, too.

Thanks Alan , yes the heavens did open but I sheltered with a mate until it passed over .
