I wish you could be our aunty! Great job on the video! I'll keep this in mind in 8 years when my first heads of to study. Right now I will focus on my own law school app :)

Dean Z's disappointed face when she says, "You should not ask questions," is something I hope to never be on the opposite side of.

Genuine related question: What about spouses? I agree with this video 1000% about parents, but it won’t just be me moving to this school or taking on this financial burden. Is it odd or inappropriate to bring my wife to certain campus events considering she will also be possibly moving to said location and spending three years of her life there? Is it best if she stays at a hotel and then we explore the town later? Any input is sincerely appreciated!

This is a great Q-I think the situation is quite different with spouses or partners; I don’t think anyone raises an eyebrow, even someone like me with notoriously active eyebrow. Esp. if they’re coming with you to law school, they have a lot invested in the decision as well--as you note, your resources are combined; the law school city will be their city; your friend group will, in part, be their friend group; etc. One thing to consider, though: a lot of admitted student weekend programming is about life in the classroom, so those events will likely be of no interest. having them explore the area a bit on their own during those times seems like a better use of their time.

@@umichlaw Thank you very much for the reply! That all makes sense, and I am glad to hear it. My wife really wants to come see the schools I’ve applied to during certain events, but wanted to make sure it would (as you said) raise eyebrows. It sounds like we will be visiting together, and just using some common sense on what events/items she comes to.

Last that I heard, my 21-year old college student, is interested in applying to Med School. I'm breathing a sigh of relief. My parents did not come to me being sworn in as a lawyer, but everyone else seemed to have one of their parents be the one that swore them in. I needed a volunteer. Just a sidebar from me.

If you don’t want parental presence at on-campus activities, then say so in the paperwork provided to the applicant. I have no regrets attending another T-14 admitted students day and felt completely comfortable doing so…wouldn’t want to have missed touring the school as well as tours arranged to see housing options. Oh, and I’m a dad btw.
