In this project, we will learn about A9 or A9G Low Power GSM/GPRS+GPS Module with Arduino. We will go through the product details and learn about its specifications. We will then interface this Module with Arduino Zero, based on 32-bit Atmel’s SAMD21 microcontroller. We will then go through a few of the AT Commands, get the GPS Location, Receive an SMS, connect to the Internet, etc.
The A9G GPS Tracker is an IoT (Internet of things) Solution-based product that integrates a micro Controller ATSAMD21G18, GRRS/GSM+GPS module A9G with best power management and storage. The A9G Module is best suited for real IoT projects such as smart-home, outdoor monitoring, long-distance monitoring, GPS Tracker, etc. The module can be operated using 3.7V Lithium-Ion Battery as it requires a 3.5~4.2V typical 4.0V supply. The power consumption of this module ranges from 1.03mA to 1.14mA depending upon the application.

I am trying to build a live tracking system with delay of max. 5 seconds from reality to map and have problems with the GPS quality. Behind a windshield the NMEA information sometimes does not update for 5, 10 oder 20 seconds even if GPS fix is 3 and there are up to 10 satellites being tracked. Will the GPS power mode affect the GPS quality and/or update frequency?

Great tutorial! I managed to implement a similar GPS tracker using this board but I am facing a big problem. When it's connected to the battery and I am adding a solar pannel, the board freezes. If the solar panel is removed and I am resetting the module, everything is working fine. Did you succeed in adding a solar panel and battery and have a stable working code? Thanks

Check the power, u cant drive the circuit direct from the solar pannel, add some buck boost converter.

Thanks Sir, I have synchronized it with (AT+CLTS=1) and (AT+CCLK?). But I cannot extract the time and the time starts with +CCLK.

So according to this video what is the average power consumption per day if we have app that let say - opens internet connection to send MQTT data every 5 minutes and then going to deep sleep?

I have tested with 20 minute interval and the 3.7V battery with capacity of 1000mah, the battery will last for more than 8-9 days as per my calculations and observation.

@@HowtoElectronics I am tracking at second intervals and an 18650 with about 2800mAh lasts about 18 hours (with firmware in debug mode and logging). I am not using the M0, only custom firmware within the A9G on the pudding dev board.

Use the simple arduino sleep mode code. Whenever an interrupt is detected in form of msg from phone, the device will wake up.
