Hi Mike. At 36000 miles I would doubt you'll have any issues. Most of the problems we see on these engines are above the 100000 mile mark.

Yes it does. This is a complete unit including oil filter, oil cooler, EGR valve and EGR cooler.

Hi Tim. EGR delete is rarely a good idea. Cooler failure is quite rare and overhyped on the forums from our experience. More common is excessive oil consumption due to bottom end wear. Are you using much engine oil ?

@@aasilencersltd hi, thanks a lot for the reply. My engine uses no oil at all - well next to no oil from my experience so far. I’ve had it 18 months and apart from some clutch/dmf issues it’s been totally solid. I’ve been doing a lot of reading about the cfca engine and the oil cooler and it’s made me panic a bit! Half of me thinks, if it’s still using no oil at 110k, it’s probably not had the issue, but as we’re hoping to keep the van for a long time, I wanted to remove any potential future failure via the EGR cooler. A new EGR set up would be ideal, but it’s a lot of dosh, so I’m hoping there’s an alternative

@@timpricedrums It sounds like you have a good example then. Realistically you are into a substantial sum to replace the EGR unit on a BiTDi, the assembly and associated items are almost £1000 + VAT. We have replaced them previously as a preventative measure and also for EGR flow issues. @@aasilencersltd Thank you. I’ll have a good think about the best way forward. I’d kick myself in the future if it did end up with more serious damage. I have been quoted for an electronic EGR delete via an ECU remap. I can’t help but think it might be the way forward in the short term until I have the funds to get the original unit replaced and then remap back to standard. I spent 2 grand on a clutch and dual mass flywheel last year...long story but only did the clutch, then DMF failed, so another new clutch with DMF was needed. I was given bad advice. I’ll never do that again!!! I’m trying to avoid any big expense in the near future, but I will get the EGR replaced at some point in the future. Thanks again for the advice. I really appreciate it. I’ll certainly be in touch when I can look at the EGR replacement job 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

@@timpricedrums no problem at all. If you are considering a software modification then make sure you go to a reputable company. We see so many vehicles that have had a poor tune applied that have multiple issues especially when they are DPF or SCR equipped.

Not at all. There's no reason to be overly concerned. If you are worried about EGR cooler failure then budget for a replacement in with the deal.

Thank you guys. From research my EGR is one known to cause issues so I'll budge in for a replacement. And possibly not blanking it off as I'm sure that's not a great idea.

@@stephenwilliams7056 blanking it off it not a good idea. It's designed to be there and will also make it illegal for road use as you're tampering with the emission system. These are a great van but the EGR system isn't brilliant and the engines love to use oil.

Is the fact they use oil down to a compression issue or just this engine in general? I'm most likely replace the EGR anyway but have heard horror stories of the engine compression being low. Cheers

@@stephenwilliams7056 the bottom end wears over time. It's a well documented issue. The replacement units are now of a modified design
