Fuel Pressure Still Dropping. OUT OF OPTIONS. Any Help?

Күн бұрынOn today's Episode, I continue to battle with my fuel pressure drop issue. After many attempts at fixing this problem I've had no luck. If any of you have any suggestions I'm open to hearing them.

I was going to suggest that your tank breather maybe restricting the flow as more demand is needed as you get higher up in the power. I see someone else suggested that to. If you are using your original one maybe it needs replacing

Yes as a test im going to open on of the plugs on top of the top hat and see if there is any improvements

@@WZ_TV Im with steve here. Fuel tank vent/breather or the hose from tank to fuel filler (i remember the tank video but didnt see how the vent was routed) If there is a vent hose attached im betting that is the issue.

Im running dual hellcat fuel pumps with my car. Each pump is good for 500whp on e85. And i would use a holley hydromat on each fuel pump. Then you wont have to worry about fuel starvation.

Hope you figured out the issue. I would agree with some of the comments. I personally don't think the plumbing is the problem. I believe is more related to the pumps even though I personally never had any issues with DW pumps regardless their bad reputation. Also the ethanol sensor could be contributing to the issue if is on the feed line. Anyway bro, I really hope you have fix the issue.

I just moved the sensor to the return and it still drops fuel pressure. So pumps most be the problem

@@WZ_TV Are those pumps have the internal check valve or are the ones without it?... And man, I feel you, there's always something new on these speed's. Mine is like when I'm getting so close then something happens and I need to figure it out. Just a headache 🤕

Record current draw on the pumps, if it spikes just before the pressure drops then you have a restriction before the injectors. Other things to consider: Flex fuel sensor (equal to -6) Vacuum reference on FPR could be leaking boost The check valves in the pumps could be shot The fuel pressure sensor could be faulty Good luck 👍

Im sure you know, but increasing the ID if the fuel line will decrease pressure. If you're gonna replace your AN-8 with a -10 for volume, you might wanna keep the injector side a -8. Im guessing youve upgraded your throttle body by now. I wish i could help you man, good luck with this, i really hope we can get this solved. Im an airplane mechanic and i know a guy whose been in the industry 40+ years, ima talk to him tomorrow and hopefully he'll have some advice.

My TB is a 3” yes. -8 is according to DW is more than enough for my power goal. -10 wouldnt hurt. Might as well do so. Im thinking since my injectors are so big maybe is consuming all the fuel in the line and thats why pressure is dropping? At this point I’ll believe anything since all the stuff that makes sence is not working lol. Thanks for your help!

I was told this. Im probably going to change them out if I cant find any other thing. Im being told it could be my e85 sensor. Im going to try that first which is cheaper to find out lol.

Yeah your reg could be shot as well but my money is on them pumps they have their own and it plays up I've seen many DWs fail haha update us 🤙

@@motortainment231 it was doing the same thing with my other regulator. A AEM regulator. I switch to this new radium regulator. Probably is the pumps lol

i would put 2 fuel injectors per piston

Do a test run with pump #1 installed, then do another run with only pump #2 installed. May potentially help you determine if one pump is weak? I saw a few people on YT have issues with DW pumps/regs lately.

One pump wasnt enough to hold the run all the way. Pressure was dropping to 23psi and the ecu trigger my safety. With the 2 pumps was the only way to get a full run done. Thanks for letting me know. I’ll probably end up sending them the pumps to get checked

What is the chance that the fuel pumps are to small for the fuel demand?

@@francoisdewetswys4619 according to Deatchworks these 2 pumps can supply fuel for over 1000hp

Why not just add a -10 at the bottom back of the tank then run a large inline pump like an aeromotive 5GPM.

So, i had kind of a situation like that with mine but what I ended up finding out was my fuel tank breather wasn’t allowing me to push enough gas; pumps were getting hot and fuel was evaporating and fuel pressure going down fast. Solo espero que esa información te ayude. 🇵🇷

Humm interesting. I have the factory breather but i can alway leave it open to see if anything changes

Where is the ethanol sensor? If its on the feed from the pump that could be your issue. Arent those like -6 size sensors? I would add a pressure sensor right out of the feed of the tank to see what pressure is before ethanol senosr and filters ect. For example if its 70psi at rail but 100+ at the pump then you know the restriction is either the filter, ethanol sensor ect. If there is a relief valve inside the fuel pump itself then it could be the issue. I just dont know what ethonal sensor you have. That sensor should be in the return, not the feed. Imo😊

It is installed on a bypass mount which prevents that. However im hearing that even then it can be a problem.

@WZ_TV regardless you could put a sensor or gauge right out of the tank to see if pressure is close to what it reads at the rail. If that's the case then you know it's a pump issue. I have seen way to many issues with DW pumps.

Dang brother im sorry you gotta deal with that man I hope you get it figured out! but is voltage staying linear ? Cause there is a possibility that the gauge wires you got to the pumps could be insufficient for the pumps to pump full capacity with a possible voltage drop with the wire gauge ?

Thanks man. Well the voltage starts at 13.7 at the pumps and it drops to 13.4 at the end of the run. Which still withing the required voltage by DW. Im going to do a test with 10gauge wire on a 60amp relay and see if there is any change. Doesnt hurt to try

It just looked to me like you had smaller gauge wire and you will get the proper voltage at idle but maybe when you pull full demand even tho they are hard wired they could possibly not get proper voltage at wide open throttle. your fuel line should be suffice it just seems like it’s getting a decent amount of voltage drop and the only thing that would make sense is wire size I usually see people run the 10 gauge wire and not have issues. I hope it helps I really want to see this car making some passes

Can you confirm both pumps are operating at 100% could you try pulling one punp for a data log, then switching and comparing the logs? That eould isolate if one pump is underperforming

I can do that but also just one of these pumps should be able to do 600hp no problem. They are rated for around 800hp each. I used to do my log with just one on and was having the fuel drop to 23psi. I added the second pump and now only drops to 46psi.

Good idea tho. Also just one pump drops so low that it doesnt let me complete the run. At 23psi the ecu triggers a safety.

@@WZ_TV so the issue is linear. If one pump should support the fuel demand at gate pressure and is dropping to 23, and 2 pumps is dropping to 46, it seems like whatever is triggering the issue is related to pumps

Your ethanol sensor is on the wrong side....that is one issue

What do you mean. Ethanol sensor go on the feed. Also its mounted on a pass through mount.

I just heard from another source that even with the bypass mount the can be a problem. I’ll take the sensor off the feed and try it out. Thank you!

Can it be the MCU controlling the fuel pump, dcereasing the voltage to the fuel pump when certain situation happens after 6k RPM, maybe a sensor is giving the wrong signal at that RPM??

So my fuel pumps are controlled by the PDM. The ecu just activates them. I did check on the voltage at the pumps through out the run and it was above 13 volts at all times. The sensor signal I thought about it too but if that was the case i would think the ECU correcting for it would add a ton of fuel making the car rich. Good points tho. Appreciate the info.

You could try and supply both sides of fuel rail and have return in the middle of fuel rail. Its best for having equal pressure on all injectors. Then also if possible record mechanical fuel pressure of radium gauge on fuel rail
