For any handloaders out there who are interested, I was able to build a similar load to this. Use caution as this exceeds 223 max pressures and is well into the 556 pressure range. Projectile: 75 gr Hornady BTHP w/cannelure Powder: 25.0 grains TAC (Book max is 25.8 gr @ 2.260" COL) Primer: CCI #41 Brass: WCC 03 5.56 COL: 2.240" (1.830" cartridge base to ogive) Overall length is 0.020" shorter than book Medium roll crimp 10.3" 1/8 Springfield barrel w/OSS Helix suppressor attached Test Lot #1 Avg Velocity: 2,463 fps Extreme Spread: 43 fps Std Deviation: 15.7 Test Lot #2 Avg Velocity: 2,486 fps Extreme Spread: 47 Std Deviation: 18.1 Brass only had minor ejector smears (no burrs). @@CheeseBurgerXJ Cheese as I understand it. Hornady never released the TAP projetiles as components. Also from what I have learned over the years. Hornady gave the TAP line a deeper pocket into the lead. Promoting expansion, over there classic BTHP line of pills. I was using the factory TAP ( Tactical Application Police ) load. I tend to use Noslers 77gr BTHP Cann. for hand rolled loads. Daughter used it on here first buck. He didnt go far from the hit. Also there was no exit wound

@@mot0rhe4d40 yeah the tap t2 has the deeper pocket, they don’t sell them for reloading only the t1 or t1c (cannelure) which from what I understand so far doesn’t have as deep pocket in front so it has a little more neck on it. The hornady black 75gr bthp are t1 (non cannelure) and the frontier 75gr bthp are the t2. I have a 12.5” I’m using for coyotes so I hope the t1 can expand quickly enough. Totally agree it’s a hotter load than the AAC 77 OTM. More noticeable unsurprised than surprised. It is also $3 cheaper a box. In saying this O still prefer the 77gr OTM as I like the SMK bullet a bit more than Hornady. Not dealing on Hornady as I used critical defense as my carry load and have TAP and CMAX rounds. I use the AAC 75gr and 77 OTM as training rounds.

I like the 62 grain BTHP out of my 8 inch AR. The load I worked up is pushing them at about 2300 FPS and they are perfect in ballistic gel. Usually leave a nasty wound and get 15-17 inches of penatration. I like the 75s out of my 16 inch barrel as well. They work great with a 1in8 twist and are very accurate.

ES’s are outrageous. Was really hoping to see better from PSAs new Ammo Company. I had a couple cases of Magtech/CBC 77 gr. OTM. ES’s of 100 FPS+ were disappointing. It still shot .75 MOA at 100 yds. Vertical stringing was progressively worse at and past 300 yds due, no doubt, to the huge ES’s. Good Vid.

I've been stocking up on the 55gr stuff just for bulk/shtf/general purpose use, I like a fast and light round, and its cheaper to buy large amounts of, now trying to decide if I should stock up on 75gr or 77gr for some heavier hitting hunting / self defense ammo for my 14.5 or 16" AR's. Would love to see some gel tests showing some of the more popular loads! I'll have to buy some of this AAC stuff, just can't decide which kind to get loll They also have a 55gr polymer tip round similar to the Hornady TAP urban stuff AFAIK. Might be a real winner too.

Silly question; If the suppressor is causing mirage problems why not shoot without it?
@BuffRANGE
@BuffRANGE Жыл бұрын
I typically will shoot a group or two without it, but since I only had 100rds, I decided to skip without. I was waiting sometimes 2-3 minutes between each shot, but because it was only 20F mirage at times was still an issue 4-5 minutes into each string :D The ammunition certainly exceeds my skillset.

They make suppressor wraps that mitigate the heat. However Its best to use on a bolt gun. That trapped heat will stay in the silencer and (possibly) shorten the life span. .300 blkout subs would be ok to use a wrap on. But I wouldnt with 5.56. My RC2 stays hot even when I shoot with a slow rate. So they do exist and help againt the mirage from the heat.

Can we see some gel tests from the AAC 77gr and/or 75gr?
@BuffRANGE
@BuffRANGE Жыл бұрын
You can watch Mr GunsNgear's AAC 77gr OTM or any of the various other 77gr SMK gel tests online. To be clear 77gr SMK (Sierra Match King) is a MATCH/precision round first, and any wounding benefits you see are nice to have not a guarantee. If you sift through a lot of the data you'll see inconsistencies in the neck the 77gr round exhibits in tissue. You will see very similar results here: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/Y7RlobZjtqrciYU.html The 75gr bullet AAC uses is the Hornady T2 bullet. The same as the 8126N.see a gel test from Hornady's site or from Andrew here: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/mNxdrdOHtJ7Ienk.html

It's definitely slower than the 8126N, however it was right in line with the Hornady Frontier. The 8126N I have is older and pre-dates all of this 223 Wylde chamber stuff and the 2017 era dialing back of 5.56 ammo. Could they push these faster? Most certainly, but I am curious with their loading at what point accuracy will degrade.

Depends on the bullet design, but the rule of thumb is roughly 2500fps. On HP/OTM rounds, it'll fragment at lower velocities
@noneyabiz8225
@noneyabiz8225 Жыл бұрын
@@brodyscarlett5527 I was kinda thinking that or a little higher so why would anyone run a barrel shorter than 14 inches unless they have a dedicated "hot" round for it. It seems that going shorter/slower defeats the bullet design. Just seems wiser to get a heavier bullet with more ass behind it like a 300BO or a 7.62x39 if one wants to run shorter than a 14 inch barrel

@Noneya Biz even 55gr fmj will frag out of a 10.5 ar to around 50 yards where as a 7.62x39 or 300blk fmj won't frag even out of a 16 inch barrel. Plus 5.56 is more common than 7.62x39 and cheaper than 300blk.

Does anyone have any knowledge on the 75 grain compared to the 77 in terms of terminal damage on a flesh target? …. Im trying to figure out which round to stock up on for “all-purpose” defense, hunting, etc. …. 75 grainers are cheaper, but are the 77 any better?
@BuffRANGE
@BuffRANGE Жыл бұрын
So everything I've read says that 77gr SMK priority was precision/accuracy, and any terminal effectiveness was a by product with no guarantee. This is why sometimes the 77gr SMK has short necks and massive damage, and other times longer necks. The 75gr bullet from the resources provides equal to and or better than the ideal terminal performance of the 77gr SMK. TL:DR shoot them both, stock the one that's more accurate in your guns, but I think the 75gr performs better.
@onlyfacts4me

@@BuffRANGE Thanks for the great response, I appreciate that! ..I'll try em both, but leaning towards the 75 for stocking up on because that seems to be such a great bullet for that kind of pricetag. Its so awesome that AAC is producing this.
