Centre, upon directions of #calcuttanews High Court, has filed an #affidavit on the deactivation of #aadhaarcard #cards of alleged foreigners overstaying in the country. A division bench led by Chief Justice T S Sivagnanam will hear the matter on July 4. Debasis Chatterjee, the assistant foreigners regional registration officer (legal cell) in Kolkata, submitted the affidavit in response to a writ petition filed by Joint Forum Against NRC that brought up the confusion created by the deactivation of some Aadhaar cards in Bengal. In his affidavit, Chatterjee referred to Section 28A of the Foreigners Act, 1946 that provides that UIDAI may deactivate Aadhaar numbers of foreign nationals if they do not fulfil the requisites of entry into or stay in India.
According to the new form, if an individual's age is declared or approximate (without documentary proof of birth date), the Aadhaar card will only display the declared/approximate birth year. Providing documentary proof is necessary for printing the complete date of birth on the Aadhaar card.
