Anyone who’s been paying attention knows this isn’t a surprise. He was literally talking about retiring after the Super Bowl. The year after everyone got hurt and they missed the playoffs. This year they had a solid season. He still has gas in the tank but he’s already accomplished everything there is to. Congratulations to the real AD

49ers fan here. God bless Aaron Donald. Played the game the right way and saw him single-handedly dominate and steal games for his team. Have the utmost respect for him and glad he Got a Super Bowl. 1st ballot hall of famer

I know he was talking about retirement after the super bowl victory but it just feels so real hearing about it now it's been a pleasure and I even have his jersey so I'm glad we drafted him and he retired as a ram That's what I've always wanted hopefully with this year's draft we can select that next Aaron Donald type player go Rams

⁠⁠@@wheelman1232if sacks is your metric for what makes a great DL, especially one who plays on the interior, then you’re football iq is horrendous. Especially factoring in he’s only played 10 years and everyone in the top 10 in sacks played over 10.

@@wheelman1232defensive tackle, not defensive line dummy. And Donald's pass rushing numbers are unmatched. His pass rush win rate is 18% against double teams, which he was double teamed 15% more than any player. And the average NFL pass rush win rate for 1 on 1 is 17%. So Donald is more effective pass rusher than the average NFL D Lineman double teamed than they are 1 on 1.

He has been saying he was going to retire for 3 years…. Coming off the Super Bowl he chose to stick it out because they thought they had another window. If you listen to some of his longer interviews the guy values winning and the Rams are probably not going to be in the conversation again this coming season. Congratulations on a terrific HOF career AD!

@@bernarddeocampo1776exactly, this dude doesn’t know what he’s talking about. We have Kobie Turner and Byron Young, two guys that will step up and continue in his legacy a little bit. If we draft Latu, that helps us as well. It sucks to see him go, but at least AD gave it his all and stuck with the Rams. We made the playoffs and I still expect the same this season.

Then the Rams disrespected him by asking him to restructure with a little over 9mil less this year when his 95 million was fully guaranteed. He agreed, thought about it, and then just retired. He would have played one more year to finish his contract if they didn't insult him like that

Donald told the FO before free agency began he was going to retire. He did this so the team could have more cap room to sign other players

I knew this day was coming, but it was still a punch in the gut when I heard AD was retiring. Aaron, don’t make a grown man beg, PLEASE come back. I just hope the Rams didn’t influence his decision by trying to screw or re-negotiate his contract because I wouldn’t put it pass them. There goes my hope for this years team.
