Today is all about 3/4 snap rolls on the vertical in the Edge 540
KZfaq has been an unbelievable tool for me throughout my aviation career. I watched aviation conent long before I ever got into flying and have continued to use it to learn to this day. This episode is centered around Aaron McCartan and a video he made about what his practice flights look like.

Hey Alex (ander). I subscribed to you a while ago. I also love aerobatics and fly glideraerobatics....for now. You inspired me to make my own videos. But the problem is: I dont have the chance to fly that much. So not much Output. But anyways. See you grow, makes me motivated, that there is a niche. That there is a possibility. So: THANK YOU!

Back when I was learning aerobatics I toyed with the idea of flying with a metronome. The tic-tic-tic to synchronize movements made sense to me after using it successfully in military parade drills (Honor Guard). I just couldnt figure out how to get one to work with comms in the aircraft. That was 20+ years ago so I'm sure now it would be pretty simple to set up. Just a thought going forward as you build your routine.

I used to always listen to music, usually the same song or playlist and I found it helped a ton. I haven’t done it in forever though

I did it. I used the gps speed and integrated it to get distance then made a tick every 100 meters, so line lenghts could be accounting for speed. Kinda worked okay. Got it into the headset by the music input on my lightspeed zulu

03:07 vs 3:45 compare the ailerons on the acceleration (right vs left snap), that will help I think. bit more aileron to the left, try it and let me know after! oh and Aaron videos look clean af! his 21 unlimited video is freaking cool

I’m definitely not adding enough left rudder. I can see it clear as day in the video. As well as I’m letting out the rudder to early.

Usually they are about 15-20 minutes. I try and get two each time I practice.

@@alexandercoats I have been binging FCS podcast last couple days! I really want to get some time in an aerobatic bird! Probably should get some upset training. Must be brutal on the body of you can only handle that span of time.

So some unsolicited advice worth exactly what you paid for it. Zero lol. When you flick (snap). Don’t let the stick stop in the aft (for positive flick) position. Treat it like there is a spring there that it bounces off out straight to the unload. Time your foot accordingly. However fast you load… unload three times as fast. If you flick right. Only unload to neutral plus a little bit. You will find the sweet spot. If you flick left… unload all the way to the firewall!!!! And then try to push the stick more. Use full aileron with both left and right… but hook it. So unload straight and then right into the full aileron. For vertical snaps. Here is a good exercise, first do a level flick. Then pitch it up and do the exact same flick but maybe 25° nose high. Get real comfortable with those then increase the attitude so maybe 45° get comfortable there no keep increasing the angle by 10 or 15° doing multiple flicks until you’re really comfortable until eventually you get up to vertical should make a difference. Again, completely unsolicited advice, but I hope it helps. Blue skies, Rob.

Could it be P factor? You need more force to overcome the prop? Either way you look at it you are much better than I. My plane says no aerobatics permitted.

Haha I think it’s just lack of practice. I always snap rolled the pitts and eagle to the right. So I just had the timing down.

@@2good4you_mj37 haha that’s what I figured. Honestly it’s only as expensive as you want to make it. There are always good deals on RV-3s online and the occasional Pitts S-1S / C pop up online for $30k-$40k. Now this doesn’t take into consideration training and insurance which can cost a ton, but if it’s something you really want to do, there are people that are willing to help. Join your local IAC chapter, you don’t have to have a plane or have ever flown aerobatics. You’ll see people want to help. Whether it’s taking you up for your first ride, or finding you a partner to lighten the load of owning a plane yourself. There are many different ways to get into it.
