He has a mental illness yes, and his risk assessment would likely show he is a risk to others as well as himself, but precisely what his diagnosis would be is undeterminable without a full psychiatric history and mental state examination. Given his presentation though it is much more likely to be depression with anger and aggression as symptoms than any form of psychotic disorder.

It's also too late anyway, if they were gonna make them a couple, they would have done so when Aaron first tried to kiss him. Doing it now would make no sense and this attitude is almost the same as "Men and women can't be friends.", just because he's gay, it doesn't mean he'll fall for his best friend and quite frankly I'm glad they avoided that overused cliche anyway.

I don't recall Adam being there to save Aaron's life when he self-harmed and got sepsis. Paddy is suppose to Aaron's father figure, I just can't remember in recent times him being very supportive, indeed he was so gobby because he was jealous of DC Jason and Chaz that he blabbed to Pierce that the police would lose the evidence. The consequence was that case went ahead against Aaron who pleaded quilty and went to prison.
