LE Audio is coming with LC3 codec, this is expected to reduce the latency on android and other devices significantly, but it might be early next year before we know anything about actual devices with LE audio, like smartphones with earbuds coming afterwards.

You may call me a nut but for the past 2 years, I aspired to find the best wireless earbuds for gaming. Basically, I wanted a true wireless earbuds (not headset - I sweat easily, hate when it mess with my hair and earbuds are much more portable and takes little to no space when going out) for gaming. Listening to music (Spotify) is a non-issue, it can have a 2 second delay and I wouldn't care. When watching YT, the app auto-corrects the sync between audio and video. if you detect audio and video is out of sync on YT, a simple fix I do is to double tap either on the left (rewind) or right (fast forward). I observed this basically recalibrates your audio-video timings. Now, gaming. I bought Razer True Wireless Pro, the one with ANC. On normal mode, basically same as regular TWS. But when enabling gaming mode on the app, it shaves a lot of latency to the point where I believe is good enough to the point where non-gamers can be satisfied. But make no mistake, there is still latency, it still is annoying to me. If I press the jump button or fire a pistol, the jump/gun sound, I can still detect there is still latency. Razer's advertisement is 60ms. I don't have any way to measure it but I think that it hovers more-or-less on that difference on audio-video sync. I recently upgraded my phone to Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra and with it came free Galaxy Earbuds Pro. Like the Razer, this model has gaming mode as well. To my surprise, it performed better than the Razer. I don't know if there is a Samsung proprietary chip or codec that enables this, but my "perfectionist" approach to audio-video sync while playing games using wireless earbuds is now satisfied. If this is the best minimal latency for Bluetooth, I can honestly say I can live with it. It still has very very minimal delay compared to my phone's built in speakers. But again, this is wireless we are talking about. It is that close. There might be someone more sensitive to audio-video delay than me. So, if someone can share their perfect phone-TWS combination, pls share them. I would love to try them if I have the chance.

How about for Windows 10 computers?

I tried everything with my Bose QC35 II; firmware update, forums, modifications, developer mode for the codecs and other options. At the end i just don't use them with BT to play because of the lag. Videos are fine because the app fixes that by itself, VLC i need to put a ms value for the video to compensate.

I have the 65" Sony X900h and it's driving me F^&$%g nuts trying to figure out what the issue is with my setup. In case anyone is having the same, or is able to help.... read on: I have an awful lag issue that's always been present on this TV (Android TV powered) while running HDMi video and audio from my PC via the hdmi cable to the tv and then bluetooth headphones connected to the TV wirelessly. I have tried multiple sets and not noticeable difference. I currently have the brand new Earfun Air Pro 3 that support gaming phone as well as Aptx adaptive and LE, LC3 codecs. Not difference. Same lag as always. I had Liberty Pro 3s before that, Sony WX1000XM4 over ear cans, and a set of B&O H9 3rd Gens before that. No difference with any. Same lag that might seem a little better after a restart of the TV but always came back over a few hours of use. I suspected originally the issue was that I run 2160p in 120hz which is barely do-able as-is but I suspect that fringe resolution + refresh is the issue. HOWEVER I don't really see any improvement when dropping the res or refresh. I've tried the usual resetting the TV with holding the power button my remote. No dice. Maybe a tiny shred better but it's still there and always seemed to get worse over time too. I've tried the audio sync feature in Off, On, and Auto. No noticeable difference. I've tried PC side adjustments... re-installing drivers, resetting the events timer (really though that was the one too 😪), tried changing the bitrates/sample rates from my audio settings. Tried messing with drivers for my sound (realtek 5.1 (but running in just stereo) on a B550m motherboard. Thing is, when I run audio out from the 3.5mm on a set of wired headphones.... 0 lag. Audio is perfectly in sync with videos on youtube, videos playing via Media Player Classic or VLC etc. When I flip back to my bluetooth headphones that are connected to the TV... lag city. In fact, MPC has an adjustment for that and I have nailed it down to being -600 to 620 ms behind video. Horrendous! Any ideas out there?

For anyone wondering, (If I'm not mistaken) LDAC is also adaptive. Implemented on three stages 330kbps - 660kbps - 990kbps.

Is this the same issue that I run into with connecting Bluetooth with my car? I find that when I am doing calls I have no audio lag, but when I am using audio streaming apps or KZfaq through my car. I have a noticeable 1-2 second lag. Would changing my Codec help this issue? If so, which Codec should I use?

Indeed the ideal is to have earbuds still support APTX ADAPTIVE and have a gaming mode. And I can't understand that Soundpeats can offer this with its True Air 2 to $30 when $300 earbuds don't have it 🤷🏽‍♂️.

Very helpful content! I just ordered a pair of Sony WH-1000XM4's and the lack of APTX was concerning me. This helps me understand a bit more about what is going on. I do plan on switching from a OnePlus 7t to an iPhone in the future, so I'll eventually get to enjoy AAC. But for now I'll have to live with some latency. I appreciate your videos! What I want to know is how the heck do my cheap bluetooth earbuds change the speed of my video playback. If they lag because they are cheap, then that's fine. But they are actually causing the video to speed up and slowdown, which really shouldn't be a thing.

Good video. Thanks. This latency thing is a pain. You would have thought apple would have fixed it with aptX support at least. We need Elon musk to get into phones. Supposedly he is doing so. Big problem for that is apps, of course. iOS has Incredible apps. Will musk crack a deal with apple to get at the App Store? Doubtful because he would need iOS compatibility, which would also require apple. Apple would lose too much market share. I trust musk much more than apple and their uncool tactics.
