One of the best episodes of the series tells the backstory of both the hero and the villain.

Nobody ever mentions Iroh letting Zuko enter the war room. It's my favorite moment in the episode. It's just a cool character moment I really like from him.

Here's a detail I wanna point out: In the audience of the people watching Zuko and Ozai's Agni Kai, Azula and Zhao are the only ones smiling. However, if you look in the background, you can see the General Zuko disrespected right behind them, and not even

He didn’t even make a disrespectful comment. He said it was wrong to betray fresh recruits to be a distraction against the enemy. Ironically his crew never thought zuko would put himself out there for the common man.

The only thing I hate about ATLA, is that none of Zukos Crew comes back. It would have been nice if they appeared in the Sozin Comet episode by siding with Iroh. I miss Lieutenant Jee

They did butcher the lore with Legend of Korra. To me personally, it was best when it was kept ambiguous. Plus I'm kind of annoyed at how much of the culture got shunted to the side over the course to focus on what was essentially steampunk USA.

One thing i noticed was a narrative thread between the episodes the storm, and the chase. In the storm Iroh says"Things will never go back to normal. But the avatar gives Prince Zoku hope." and in the chase when Toph says to Iroh "Thanks for the advice it really helped me, and about your nephew, maybe you should tell him that you need him to." Zuku gives Iroh hope. Hope of redemption, hope of healing the world that he help wound. Hope that he can save his nephew from going down the same path that he lost his son to.

I would say that The Storm was a turning point in my viewing of ATLA, I did like it quite a bit, but it was The Storm that made me realize I was watching one of the greatest animated series ever. I like how this episode deals with two major character defining moments for both Aang and Zuko. You also got little hints earlier that Aang may have run away right before the war started which is why he ended up in the ice or that Zuko got that scar from his father which this episode ends up confirming both 100% true. I also think that scene where 13 year old Zuko was on his hands and knees begging for mercy from his father while crying right before he was burned one of the most heartbreaking scenes ever.

"I'm not, but I still don't want to!" That line still pops me to this day. I don't know why, it's so stupid, but so perfect.

Jee's (the ship captain's) "I always thought Zuko was in a training accident..." at the end of the story, it hits me hard every time I think of it. He sounds so

On an minor note, some people I’ve met say that Fire should’ve been the hardest element for Aang given it’s focus on offense and power.

1. I'll agree that this is probably one of the best episodes of the show. Although I don't understand why you'd skip it upon a rewatch, you are free to make your own decisions.

I like the theory I saw a while back (can't remember when/who) that each avatar's personality is based on the previous avatar's greatest regret. And that Aang's regret was not being ready to be the avatar when the fire nation attacked, so Korra was a prodigy willing to take on anything from the start.

I feel like Zuko was already scar’d but looks at the good parts of his life with rose tinted glasses it was just the physical scar was something he couldn’t ignore as well as the others

I loved that episode and still do. I would also like to go on record as wishing that Zuko's crew made some sort of return in the later seasons in some way as that would have absolutely given me the last bit of closure I needed from the series. As a kid I always wondered about them after the first season ended.
