Welcome to episode 7 of my Going Medieval let's play series!
This time, we're kicking up the difficulty a notch, with the Lone Wolf start, on Survival. Will Frostgrave rise to match the might of Woven Tales, or is our story doomed to end, frozen and forgotten in the frigid winter?

A few comments after the few battles we saw in this video about the gatehouse: 1- The time it takes a villager to move between the towers due to having to climb up and down several floors is quite long. It would probably be a good idea to have a rampart between the two towers, possibly in the location of the crenellations of the outer gate. This would also give you more space to position archers above not just the enemies outside but also inside the Killbox. Of course, you'd have to put crenellations on both sides of the ramparts, but I believe that it would also look cool. 2- The fact that enemies can shoot back at you from under the bridge is a bit sketchy, perhaps adding another floor to the tower in the future would be wise. 3- During the last raider battle I noticed that water accumulated on the towers, would it be possible to put up a roof on the top floor? Not enclosing, obviously, but maybe a few support pillars, some wooden beams and a wicker roof? I'm not sure how that would be feasible without it getting in the way of the archers, however... Now, on the topic of the bridge: 1- It looks absolutely phenomenal. Beautiful work. 2- A part of me was wondering if you'd put the crenellations one block out for the purpose of putting up statues along the bridge, but it seems like the stone paths would be a wonderful point for decorations, especially that larger patch of stones connected to the gatehouse. 3- It might be a good idea to put the torches on the second level of the supports instead of the first. I don't know if raiders will target them, though it seems like they might not, but if the developers somehow manage to create a system that will allow water to flow into that dry river bank, the torches will not be useable. It might also be cool to have torches in the area your villagers use as well. Anyway those are just my two... Five cents. Fantastic video as always, thank you so much for the content. It's always a treat watching you building up these settlements.

Limestone bricks make a HUGE difference to the hitpoints of walls. Limestone wall has 300, limestone brick wall has 800. Also, just fyi brick floors (limestone or fired clay) have a move speed bonus that the wood doesn't. Depending on how the pathfinding works, you may end up with peeps only walking along the edges of the bridge where the higher speed flooring is.

If you can get dogs domesticated and trained, they will do the hauling for you even if they are "assigned" to a settler. If you can manage to get them to breed after they have been domesticated up to the "pet" status, they will produce more pets that only need to be trained before being able to haul. I personally use a pack of about 15 to keep my settlement tidy and to "discourage" the occasional incursions. Wolves should be the same except for better at combat, though they are Really difficult to train.

every day I open up a youtube tab to check and see if a new Going Medieval or Clanfolk episode has been posted. I dunno what it is about these colony sims specifically, but it's genuinely my favorite content to consume on the internet right now. I make a whole thing of it, I go get some nibbles and a drink, grab a cozy blanket, and I settle in for comfy chill time with Aavak ❤I think with the cats, it might've been the weather, both of them died either during the cold snap or the heat wave... if another shows up, might be best to keep them indoors during extreme weather..? though I'm not sure how to go about that, if it can be done at all... Either way, can't wait to see what you'll accomplish in frostgrave in the next vid :D

Our bridge great! Hopefully if we get Cat#3, they will be safe from the cat curse! I shall henceforth headcanon that when they passed, the bodies of the first two were buried in the bridge's foundations as spiritual guardians, much like stone lions. Therefore, rather than call it Stonebridge, I'll perhaps call it something like Kathpaw or Greymalkin Bridge. I'll workshop that. (Thank you for the video, as always! I know this one took more time than usual and it is appreciated!)

I am loving this series so far! I haven't played Going Medieval in ages, and am inspired to go back into the game now. This episode covered a LOT of time and gameplay, so thanks for toughing through it so we could see it completed. I love the bridge, and have nothing to add that others haven't. In terms of a build, I was personally thinking of two things. 1. A large apartment complex. But like, not awful. Enough room for two people to have sizable personal quarters on every floow. 2. This might not work, but is something I want to try on my build-: hanging gardens. Well okay, an elevated growing area. I just think the idea of a floating garden full of beautiful apple trees and berries three stories above the main work area sounds just wonderful, if impractical. But when has impractical ever stopped you before?

The domesticated pets tend to wander extremely far from your village, doing so they get treated like "pests" to Bears, Foxes, and Wolves. Cats don't tend to last long if they aren't Pets that stick by the side of a person. Even torches and other light sources that are supposed to offer protection don't help much if at all. You'll find that if you get chickens you'll invite the next coming of Jesus to all predators on the map if they aren't protected by fortified walls (or trenches). Also, the walls all have different HP. Clay Bricks and Cut Stone Bricks have the most.

Been watching your videos while i recover from a tooth extraction, been an excellent distraction from the pain. Love the new bridge! Have you thought about putting a small bridge between the two towers so your archers can move between them without having to go all the way down to ground? Perhaps you could expand the backs of those towers a bit to form a horseshoe shaped structure, could potentially put a balcony on the second floor wrapping all the way around so you can double up on archers on any given side.

I highly suggest you set everyone’s undrafted stance to neutral, so they won’t run away instead of getting medical treatment. It’d also be a good idea to get a dedicated medic/doctor who is undrafted during battle so they can immediately heal if necessary. Perhaps Melody or someone else? Maybe when you have the population for it? I’d also suggest building limestone brick paths/roads along well traveled areas.
@Aavak
@Aavak 8 ай бұрын
Yeah, having a dedicated medic, much like a dedicated hauler (thought much higher priority of course) is something for an expanded population. Which, I'm starting to feel we're getting to at this point.
@Cooldude-ko7ps
@Cooldude-ko7ps 8 ай бұрын
@@Aavak yeah. Another thing is to set everyone’s undrafted stance to neutral so in battle you can have the medic on standby. Then once someone is injured and undrafted they’ll immediately go to get treatment. Once you get the apothecary/medical bed tech you should set up a medic station with a apothecary bed somewhere close to where fighting is expected to be such as the gatehouse. Perhaps even on the ground floor of one of the towers? Also, once the cow is tamed you might be able to use it as a hauler. Different animals have different carrying capacities and a cow can definitely carry more than a person.

Know I'm late to the comment party ..... 1) Really should (as others have mentioned) have a walkway between the tops of the two towers... easier to reposition/get firing arcs for archers. 2) Really should double check for ramps on the back side of that hillock on the other side of that lovely bridge... wildlife getting up there somehow... and that could also be raiders soon. 3) No one expects the Spanish Inquisition 4) Maybe some lightposts of some sort along the walkway of the bridge. 5) What's some long pork among friends. 6) Agree with others... archers on the towers could use some sort of roofing/canopy to keep the elements off of them. 7) Thank Thee Kindly for the video Good Sir.

Oof, lots to reply to here. But in order... 1) Adding more structure to a temporary construction just leaves more for me to pull down, but we'll see if it becomes a bigger issue moving forward. 2) Have checked. Don't care if raiders get up there as there won't be anyone to attack over there during a raid and raiders won't just wander the walls with nothing to do. Your suggestion makes sense for real life, but knowledge of the game's AI makes it pointless in this situation. Thanks though 👍 3) True. 4) I like the idea, but visually it's hard. Maybe some braziers? 5) Also true! 6) Exposure to the elements builds character! 7) You're most welcome :D

Bridge! That is a bloody lovely bridge you have there! Love the style and the fact it is a three-span. The engineer side of me though would like to make a minor correction; central spans (the one crossing the main water way) tend to be the longer spans as it is more difficult to build in water than over water. Water is also very good at breaking stuff, making columns in a moving waterway break down more quickly. If I were to let my engineering side take over, I would have suggested singular columns or ‘leaf’ piers which are solid along the width of the bridge. This is just a game though and I appreciate the artistic style of the iron torches which would have had to be moved under the bridge if you went for full width piers.

I've had a similar situation happen with the enemy AI just milling about and not attacking. For me, it was a door placed at the bottom of a soil ramp that they couldn't seem to navigate - if I moved my ranged settlers into their range, all the enemy units would cluster against the door in a blob. Oh for a trebuchet of my own! After II'd move my settlers away the enemy would just start to disperse/mill around again. It was super weird. Interesting note: Apparently archers count as having a high ground position even on the very lip of the bottom of a ramp/stair? - one arrow hit from a shortbow took my heaviest armoured (superior chain armour and helmet + fine shield) settler to a quarter health when I let him linger too long trying to bait the enemy blob into the range of my crossbows = even though the archer and the target were "technically" on the same plane (archers get damage bonuses when above the enemy).

Love your episodes! I have been thinking about this very odd thing in games like these about the econemy of battles. How games like these are bending over backwards to make sure that the loot you get from battles are only so-so while in reality, if you defeat an army of heavily armored knights you would have a wealth of loot, but somehow they never seem to have the expensive weapons and armor they where implied to have or its effectively worthless for some strange reason. Now I get why, its for balancing reasons, its not gonna be much of a game if one battle makes you rich enough to beat the game, but it just feels wrong. Now, as far as I can tell, this game solves it with giving enemies shit weapons and just have a lot of them which works and makes sense in the lore, so I like that. But it hit me that the best solution would actually be to have smarter and more realistic battles and make the AI smarter. Instead of them being completely gong ho fight to the death or only a few are left, they actually act as a besieging army, they keep their distance, make probing attacks, if they get wounded they stay away until they recover, they recover their wounded and dead to the far of camp they set up so the player can't loot fallen. Then if after a few probing attacks they decide you are too tough they simply leave with their dead and wounded, denying the player the expensive loot or they settle in for a long siege. And for longer sieges or larger battles they loose, they still will try to hold you off to recover their lost and do a fighting retreat. This way, you could equip enemy npc with dangerous and expensive armor to make them dangerous while also giving the player and incentive to want to kill the enemy and prevent them from escaping. An incentive to sally forth from the safety of your fort at great risk, as these enemies won't throw themselves needlessly at your walls and will have the strength to match you. It give the player an interesting choice to wait it out, or go on the offensive. To take chances to prevent the enemy from escaping or safely defeat them and let them retreat.
