I had this feeling when I heard the kind of slow, unenthusiastic "Hiiiiiiiiiiiiiip hooooooooooooop" in the beginning of one of the songs and his lyrics "and now I lay me down to sleep". Kind of a commentary on the state of hip hop today, imo. The album overall is very dark, and filled with clever lyrics, but also as you said optimism. Makes sense with him pushing the whole "silver lining" gimmick in all of his current interviews.

Average at making albums? Smh this album was a 10/10 it’s just the listener reviewing it understood nothing about the concepts or what he was trying to achieve. That’s why he says “it doesn’t seem like a full concept album” and “it’s hard to narrow ab soul down.” (Mainly because he can’t narrow him or this album down.) That is the album’s intention, that is why he made the album this way. It’s to steer off the average listener outside of his mainstream hits (which I think every rapper needs on a successful album) but the average listener would never be able to understand what he’s doing on this album. Not saying Anthony Fantano is an average listener but he certainly has no idea what’s going on in this album. And tbh he could’ve rated this album a lot worse if it wasn’t such a good sounding, lyrical and ambitious album. He has all of the musical aspects that would make Anthony never rate this album lower than a 7, but the concepts are so over his head that he can’t rate it a 10/10. If he understood the message of what he was trying to say, but would also be willing to lose half of his fan base for saying it, he would’ve rated this album a lot higher. Did you notice that almost the entire review he did nothing but talk about the wrong aspects of it? Outside of saying a few tracks were catchy, he STILL rated it a 7. If only he understood the album and it’s concept like he seems to understand Kendrick’s album TPAB, he would see the merit in this album.
