Abaddon was responsible for the death of many of my Marines back in 2nd edition. He fell only once at my hand and it is still an epic tale from the 40+ years of wargaming. Great paint, brother.

That is easily the best song about Abaddon I've ever heard.

I first started playing 40k around 6th-7th edition. My first army was chaos and I painted them in Black Legion colors. I got an old Abbadon model off ebay and it was always a treat to play a list with him in it. Both I and my opponents learned very quickly that there weren’t many things in the game that he didn’t have a decent chance of beating in melee.

I love that you referenced the falling off of arms, cos as soon as I saw this thumbnail i was instantly transported to a youth without pinning and playing against this dude with an arm just lying next to him the whole game because we coukd never figure out how to keep metal 'stuck' 😂

This was my era of 40k. God I miss the simplicity of those times!

Abbadon in 2nd was an absolute beast! Honestly, all the chaos characters of the time were beasts (Kharn!). My pal had a chaos army, and beating him was difficult simply because his characters brushed off so much damage, but could also hit hard.

Great video! I've just begun work on assembling a 2nd ed Chaos army as well. At the time (circa 1996) I played Orks, but a buddy of mine played Chaos. Much like your Dante story I recall a specific instance where my friend teleported Abaddon into midfield with his terminator bodyguard. I proceeded to fire my shokk attack gun at them resulting in a frightened snotling materialising inside Abaddon, rendering the Warmaster completely useless. Buddy didn't even get to do anything with him. 25 years later it's still the most memorable moment in my entire gaming career. I'm looking forward to seeing your chaos army progress. Cheers!

Oh man, you have got me excited for future videos. I just got back into 40k after about a 20 year break. I used to only collect Imperial units back then and I wanted to start with something I didn't model previously, and preferably with a lower model count as I learn to paint minis properly this time, so I decided to rejoin the hobby with a Chaos Marine army using a mix of retro and new minis - especially a Dreadnought. I don't personally like the Hellbrute design even though it is quite a nicely designed, imposing model. I'm just not into the fleshy mutation side of Chaos and much prefer the baroque ornamentation. I snagged one from eBay at a reasonable price and it is glorious, awkward claw and all, and it fits right in next to the most recent sculpts of Marines and Terminators. I plan on having a squad from each of the 3(?) standalone Chaos Marine Squad releases, and I think it fits with the lore that some of these guys are survivors of the Heresy. I had no idea Abaddon was a 2nd edition model, to me the figure represents the Cityfight and 13th black Crusade era of 40k. He's of the size and proportions to fit in with the cream of 3rd and 4th edition special characters, a testament to that original sculpt. On the base size, even GW probably admit that he should be on a larger base, he barely fits! that's what I would do, anyway. Your method of painting black armor grey really inspire me, I'm going to practice that with my own minis.

I have been working on my Chaos Sisters of battle in Emperors children colours - they kit bash great with the slaanesh demmonettes really well!

I still have my original Abaddon model (though I did do some conversion work on him). With Shadowspear, I restarted a chaos army, and standing old Abaddon beside new Abaddon was a funny contrast. Pretty sure he's been taking performance enhancing substances in the intervening years...

My favourite chaos character miniature, enjoyed watching him brought to life. Still looks great and imposing, and fabulous with paint on. Look forward to seeing what traitorous filth flock to join the poster boy of chaos. I liked the song, made me laugh.

Abaddon was one of the first models I bought when starting 40k back in 1995. I still have the model and brings back great memories. Great paint job and video!

There's actually a part in the nightlords omnibus where the decorative skulls on one of the characters get smashed up He never reacted to it but still thought it was a nice touch

I kinda miss those times when minis like old Abaddon, Immotech or Ghazzkhul were considered a center pieces of collection. Everything is so much bigger and more complicated nowadays.

Great video, that Abaddon model is particularly nostalgic although I got into the hobby in `98 just in time for 3rd ed. For the foreseeable future my vintage Warhammer Fantasy armies will keep me busy, but these videos do certainly make me want to do some 2nd ed or 3rd ed 40K stuff. Must resist though, just today got some 90s Made to Order goodness for fantasy! Oh and great paintjob, perhaps the best I’ve seen of yours.

When I worked at Bugmans Bar someone renamed my til key to Abbadon. And promptly left the company. No one else was trained on using the key flashing software so I was stuck with it. i had to put up with nerds kindly informing me my name was spelt wrong for years. 10/10 prank by that lad.

I think you use the talon over the sword when targeting large unit sizes, such as chaff units.

I like the songs. I find myself singing the land raider song a little too often, my better has asked me to knock it off more than once!

those black legion models featured in the codex were actually part of graham davey's(?) own collection, iirc-featured in one of the first (possibly _the_ first?) white dwarf battle reports of 3rd ed.; csm vs. white scars. i believe the silver trim was part of graham's personal scheme for his own "forbidden company" warband rather than an "official" or studio army colour scheme for the entire black legion.
