Love this. Currently building a 4x4 chinook with the camper from my 77.

I have the 76, picked it up for 900$ 5 speed, spent quite a bit on it with parts, hoses, water pump, carb, exhaust...about 3K and it runs incredibly well...

1977 was a good year!!

Great video. Fun to watch a real mechanic bring the old Chinook back to life. The engine sounds sweet. Mine has that electric fuel pump. When it failed, no problem -I found an OEM pump at RockAuto and a local mechanic (one of those old, unshaven, heavy smoker types who knows everything about cars) and he put the new pump in. He also said that there is a clone available at one of the auto part chains. Someone found another solution which was installed on my 75 Chinook - an after market mechanical pump that he'd installed in the fuel line just under the hood.

This Toyota Hilux has the 20R motor my 1997 Toyota Hilux has the 22R motor and they are a very good engine no wonder it started so easily you do realise the 20R and 22R engines are some of the best engines Toyota ever made they are over engineered l don't know how many miles on your Hilux l will refer to it as a Hilux because l live in Australia but my Toyota Hilux has done 43l000kns around 250000miles so they are extremely reliable your Toyota camper van is very reliable

nothing like the old 20r

Does it leak around the top front windows or the pop up? Someone I know has one that leaks like crazy and he has no clue as to how to seal it up.

Do you still have your Toyota Chinook if so I would be interested in looking at the RV part of it
