This video reminds me of my Step Father Al, who like me, loved airplanes, and was a pilot too. We would visit out of the way airports, just for the pleasure of looking at the planes on the ramp and talking to the owners if they were there. Al died in 2006. I take my sons to see the planes now, which they love like me. But watching this video makes me think of Al, and I could see him with his EAA ball cap, looking through the windows of these old birds. I miss him.

Thanks dude. I am a lifelong aviation buff and this video reflects many of my feelings towards these machines and the people we depend on to transport us in a most amazing fashion and to defend our boarders. I now have the privlege of maintaining the top fighterjet in the world. Some of the parts made by a company that still carries the Wright Brothers name. The music choice much superior to the droning eletronic music(?) in some other avi videos. awesome.

ON THE CHANCE that someone, someday views this who has the means, the connections and the philanthropic streak, There are millions of youths in this country with amazing mechanical talents but who are immersed in desperate and hopeless situations. What a wonderful program it would make to bring them to Camarillo and teach them. Put a sander in their hands! Can anyone else see it?

You can like this video for two reasons: either because you love airplanes or because you love to see a really well made video on youtube for a change. It's well composed, beautifully lit, you can see there was a lot of thought put in to it and even the soundtrack is excellent! I think Chris Martin himself would be proud to have his song linked to this video! Brilliant! 10 out of 10!

A B-17 and a C-87 (B-24 cargo version) were seen flying over Fargo Beach, Rogers Park, Chicago, summer of 2014. They were flying at about 1000 ft. on a track between Pal-waukee and Gary airports. This went on for several afternoons. 1990's saw a B-17 and a ex-Indian Air Force B-24 on Meiggs Field…. That B-24 had been mapping all of India, from about 1946.. Had all it's guns, Norden and not a DING on it…!! We saw the twin tails from the bus to Adler…. Kathy noticed them before I did. God bless her soul in heaven, now… we had been on a trip to Hyde Park. Researching The Gadget her mother had worked on at Ryerson, The Met Lab… At U of C Library…. Virginia R. Bisberg- Hawley... We spent the rest of the day with the crews and airport staff. Weather guys I used to call for "Winds Aloft" data…. for Astronomical Observation… A good time was had by all… had dinner with most of them in Adler's basement cafeteria.. Those were the days…. Then Da Mayor destroyed Meiggs… A travesty… CAVU J.C.

For anyone interested in the Constellation in this video, it flew today - January 14, 2012. I didn't go to the airport to see if it came back to Camarillo, it may have been flown to its new home, which I believe is The Planes of Fame Museum at Chino airport. Wherever it was headed it was a magnificent sight and sound. Congratulations to the team of people who worked so so hard to get this plane back in the air. It is truly an amazing sight.

We had two Connie's at KCMA, one was leased by Brietling several years ago for a world tour and this "CIA" one that recently left for the Planes of Fame Museum in Chino CA [I think]. I got to fly in "Camarillo Connie" several times, it was fast, we'd leave the B25 in the dust on the way to airshows. The interior of this Connie was right out of a '50's cold war movie, big CRT's, plexiglass panels for tracking targets with grease pencil etc. It appeared to be in remarkably good condition.

Hard for me to believe.... I watched Air Force airplanes take off and land from that AF Base as a young man living just inland from it. Watched and heard the air defense alert birds take off from the alert hangers that faced Los Posas Road. The most vivid memory was a F101 climbing out of the fog as we rode the school bus up out of the fog one morning not far off.

This video tells a story very well. But I'd like to draw attention to the cinematic quality of the video. The long, medium, close-up & detail shots, vertical & horizontal tracking shots, and zooms. These were so well done and edited, that it's hard to notice them, they all blend into a comfortable natural flow. Well that's hard to do! That takes a lot of talent, hard work, thought & planning, equipment, and artistic editing. The person or group who did this fine work have probably put many hours, and likely many years into developing the ability to produce such a great video. Thank you.

For a number of years there were two Connies at the Camarillo airport (former Oxnard AFB into the 1960s). One beautiful C-121C, "Camarillo Connie, N73544" was restored and sold to European interests. It now flies as the "Brietling Super Constellation." I watched its departure in 2004. It was an awesome sight in flight.

@feckham123 No Kidding. The large Convair at the end of the runway was Cary Grants plane, its been almost completely dismantled and taken away. Unlike cars, the FAA makes it very difficult to restore these planes back to airworthiness. Its not their fault, they didn't abandon them but it makes restoring them to risky. Thanks for watching.

you know, there are plenty of museums worldwide willing to restore ; clean and shine one of those babies and bring back to life for kids and no-so-kids admiration !! actually don't have to be in the US, many will show them with respect and a smile in their face ....
@Av8Chuck
@Av8Chuck 8 жыл бұрын
+eloyex The challenge is that its not as simple as donating the plane to a museum, most of them lack the funds, people and expertise to restore many of these planes. If you donate a plane to a museum you usually have to donate a sizable endowment to cover the expense of storage and restoration. With a tight world economy its just getting more difficult to raise the money necessary to preserve these planes. Also, unfortunately in the US interest in General Aviation is at an all time low, fewer people care about any of this. Its a shame...

Your right sir, and its becasue the costs that come with flying. I think kids would love it if they had someone to take them up and spend time with them. Mr. Nelson, Constellations have three tail fins, and the DC-6B and Lockheed Electra only have one, but Reeves did not fly Constellations. PNA did, and Western operated PNA's L-649/749 Constellations for about two years after the merger, but Reeves didn't fly them. Alaska Airlines even flew two L-1649 Starliners, the final version of the Connie for a year or so. There are YourTube videos of Reeves Electras, the last airline in the US to fly the four engine Turboprop in scheduled service.

@Av8Chuck Reeve Aleutian Airways (RAA) flew connies when they were still in business. I had a chance to ride in a connie from Bethel Alaska back to Anchorage in the 1990's. It was like I stepped back in time to the 1960's. The plane was immaculate. I asked the stewardess about it, she said that RAA had a warehouse full of parts. The arm rests even had the ash trays in them. Thanks for the reminder. :)
