It never ceases to amaze me how much value is allowed to rot away when different facilities close for financial reasons; the irony is simply amazing!! Just a couple of items... those Brunswick Jetback Bowling Pinsetters would've been worth at least $30,000 (total) and a decent baby-grand piano of any quality can be $8,000+... Obviously the value bottoms out when they are allowed to rot and/or be vandalized. And the place is full of lab equipment, elevators, light fixtures, kitchen equipment, etc.

Dana Danarosana You see, they paid most their debt. And if they had been smart and sold everything on auction straight after their foreclosure, they would’ve at least paid the debt off and successfully transform the building into a source of revenue.
@WastelandSeven
@WastelandSeven 6 жыл бұрын
Dana, too often administrators don't care. And once it went to the creditors, they couldn't have gotten rid of it easy enough or fast enough for them to bother. Creditors are lazy bastards. They'll foreclose on something and then resell it for pennies on the dollar. Hell, they could have turned all of that into apartments or a civic center or something. But, like I said, creditors are lazy, they just want a fast easy buck.

I graduated from there in 2012. Hard to believe huh!! We only lived in Brandon Hall and we actually had a pretty decent experience. Within the last 3-4 yrs ppl have been vandalizing the school. After i graduated there were more and more cases of ppl setting fires to the buildings and neighborhood kids being kids. Its pretty sad there is so much history within that school and i cant believe it never bounced back.

I'm currently at a college where there's declining enrollment and it's scary to think that my college could turn out this way in 30 years. It'd be haunting to go back and visit the place as an Urban Explorer, to see what changed, and what failed. Things can deteriorate so quickly, it's insane. I'm glad you've enjoyed your time there at least, didn't seem like it was a bad place to be in.

I would say the the room at 22:20 is a recording studio for performers and the reason the floor and walls are now cracked is because it would have had a 'floating floor' which isolates sound when recording. You'll also see a window on the side (which would have originally had double-glass in it) where the recording technician would have sat with equipment. That's my guess anyways...
@sdg6976
@sdg6976 4 жыл бұрын
tubeie07 my guess: that’s a “theater-in-the-round”. Music/Drama in the middle and spectator seated on the round risers. I suspect the floor just cracked and heaved up due to frost. The window was probably the sound/light room, they too can have double pane glass.

It could also have been a “theater in the round”, which was a really “hip” thing to do in the mid-60’s to early 70’s. Players were in the middle and the audience sat in chairs on the raised circular rings.

@TheCrackupboom
@TheCrackupboom 4 жыл бұрын
@@toromiheartstwo College is about learning and learning, in my opinion can be broken down into education and training. Stem is training just as plumbing, carpentry, mechanics and understanding and manipulating non living things. Education however is something totally different. Education is abstract thinking which has little to do with non living things, it has to do with living things, the human animal. History, philosophy, psychology, economics, law, etc. Much of the practice of law deals with philosophy and history. But all of the education one gets doesn't get you anywhere these days since they have totally watered down the curriculum to a bunch of meaningless leftist babble. If however, you work hard to understand the human animal then you can better anticipate movements of the human herd and capitalize on those moves. It is not a sure thing particularly if one has not been educated in the classical liberal arts. In finance for instance, you will find huge amounts of historians and philosophy majors.

The people responsible for the funding of this college did wrong to all those students and alumni by not taking care of business properly. also by not removing books, the pianos, and any other things like pictures in the presidential areas is also wrong. They could have sold the items off at an auction including chairs to help pay debts or save for up keep. They could have created one building for keeping the memories up for the public, charge a fee for entrance and then invested it into the property. There is much that could have been done. I'm so sad to see a campus abandoned and the items not properly dealt with. Complete irresponsibility on the head of staff!
@russellhltn1396
@russellhltn1396 7 жыл бұрын
It really depends on what happens. Being in debt, it may have been turned over the creditors that had no clue what to do with it. In that case, that staff can't do anything. It's not their stuff anymore. Not only that, they no longer have a job. How much work are you willing to do for free to sell off stuff and have to turn over everything to the new owners?
@meghan8932
@meghan8932 7 жыл бұрын
Russell Hltn If you watch the local news about this you'll see they paid 300,000 off in debt. So they had that done, however there was other issues yes that they faced. But it still doesn't explain why they left remaining items.

In my opinion it seems obvious that the administrators of this institution were more interested in budgeting fat salaries and perks for themselves than insuring the maintenance of the facility, fiscal responsibility, or the quality of the education. I am assuming, perhaps foolishly, that there was some sort of Board of Governors or Directors who saw their appointments as prestigious sinecures and who couldn't or wouldn't provide any oversight, which should have been their primary function. As the rats fled the sinking ship I am sure no one thought about preserving anything for a doubtful posterity since they were busy covering their own posteriors. The idea of a museum to which anyone would pay for admission is preposterous; again, in my opinion. What exists now seems an excellent depiction of the school as it really was.
@meghan8932
@meghan8932 7 жыл бұрын
LodiTX There are many examples of higher education institutions that keep their history alive in many ways and do their jobs correctly. This institution lost its accreditation. That alone shows the lack of ability by all who were in high positions on staff. A Museum could have happened if the people of that town wanted to in order to keep the memories alive and history important to them. If the town wanted to keep this institution up, much more could have been done. They failed the community and prosperity of growth.
@loditx7706
@loditx7706 7 жыл бұрын
The examples you are talking about sound like institutions that are still functioning and I agree with that. I'm in Texas and every active institution for higher education has many traditions and practices and histories that have been kept up and maintained for decades. Obviously in the case of this institution no one cared or it wouldn't be a ruin now. Saying that people should is your opinion and I think that's great, but it doesn't seem to be going to happen for this place.

The floor wasn’t on fire. The mattresses were on fire filling the floor with smoke to the line on the wall. A flash over is when that happens as anything flammable gets to ignition point it will flash over.

Mostly likely those doors are fire doors. They are meant to keep fire from spreading. Hospitals, dorms, hotels all have them.

I laughed when you said student would take all of their stuff. They've spent a semester, maybe years collecting stuff; but in the end, they only have their car to carry things away. A lot of stuff gets abandoned. But in this case, you were right. They might have been under a threat of no return deposit if they didn't clear out.

It's always amazing to me the restraint Michael and Bryan show in not using jump scares or the like in these videos. I mean, I know that isn't the intent or what they do but any of these videos, any of the footage could easily be converted into a found footage thriller/horror movie

You should go to Santa Fe University of Art And Design, I went there in 2006 but it was called the college of Santa Fe then. But it’s since been abandoned and apparently the third floor of King Hall dorm is haunted. It would be so cool if y’all did an episode on that place. It’s only been abandoned a year tho :/ but pictures online show how it looks like a ghost town now.

What a great place to explore! Thanks for both videos! Just remember that there is a difference between fire damage and smoke damage. Smoke damage can occur far from the source of the fire as the smoke fills up in confined areas.

I know this video is 3 years old now, but the round room was probably a carousel theater! The nearby University of Tennessee has one that is a bit larger and is very popular for performances. Regular chairs are set up in the surrounding circles, varying on how much space the performers need. Round theaters make for a very interesting theater experience!

The University where I earned two Master's degrees closed suddenly two years ago. Students were given ten day's notice to get their transcripts, after which time all the records were destroyed/deleted. I was out of the country at the time this happened, and since my degrees dated back to 1976 and 1977, they were never put on computer. My notification came via USPS to what is now my nephew's house. They filed for bankruptcy and closed down, leaving furniture, office equipment, art work, everything abandoned. It's horribly wasteful. They should have auctioned off everything to pay their debts, especially since they have ceased making pension payments to their retirees and owe money to students who paid for an entire semester and received only half. The buildings are already broken in to, vandalized, and things of worth stolen.

There’s a perfectly reasonable explanation for them. People set them up to take pictures. Either that, or every abandoned place is haunted. Probably the second choice, honestly.
