The Green lights are there to inform maintenance that all is well the red bulb on the other side lets them know that the sensor has detected moisture, gas, low freeze temperature, or other issues.

The thermometers remind me of when I shot footage at the former Bradlees / Two Guys in Bordentown, NJ. My guess is, with the thermometers visible from the glass doors, it will be easy to make sure the interior of the building doesn't get too cold (causing the pipes to freeze and burst) or too hot (also cauusing problems with the vacant structure). Also, the green light must be some kind of proof that the building still has pwer, so it can run the HVAC to regulate the temperature, as well as run the security system to keep swuatters, copper thieves and vandals away.

The family that owned the County Market owned a handfull of stores, including the Punxsutawney store. I worked for the family in Punxsy until they sold the store, and it became Shop n' Save, now it's becoming a Hometown Market.

Surprised you didn't mention that Beals (which was previously a Peebles) used to be an Ames and this used to be called Ames Plaza. I passed through here a while back and I thought that maybe the County Market was the former Ames but I think it was where the Beals is.

Wallie, have you checked out the Philips Hotel? It used to be a nursing home called Moshannon Heights years ago. It was bought out by a pair of lawyers in the 2010’s that turned the rooms into hotels and had a nice dining and bar area. They went under and left the building unwinterized and it suffered significant damage. It’s one of the most historical buildings in Philipsburg and because of their neglect, it sits damaged and rotting. It was a beautiful building prior to this.

When they first opened that store several years back it was magnificent! They had fresh lobster swimming around in a big tank, it was a little pricey but fun to shop in the store! There was a doctor's office right beside it I used to go there too to see the doctor. And then I think there was a and then I think there was a hair salon in around the corner still attached to that building was a specialist of some sort.

There is an open County Market in Grove City that has been in business for 40 years. Before that, it was a “greenhouse” Kroger, who left the area in 1983-84. Then County Market moved into the building and has been there ever since!

Sadly, Weis Markets purchased this building so no competition can come into the area for them. It’s bullshit that they’re allowed to do this and let it rot. It was Bi-Lo for years and then became County Market. I worked there as a teen when it was still Bi-Lo. It’s now just another abandoned building amongst a sea of dilapidated buildings and homes in the area.

Actually, the "newer" Weis building is older. This was a BiLo built in the 90s - was the only grocery store locally with fresh seafood, a snack bar, and had a really nice deli and bakery. It closed and then Fezell bought it and installed gas pumps in the 2000s, the pharmacy on the other side of the plaza moved in as well, and they added the winery products. It should be noted that they added a floral department, which is where the murder-suicide occurred with the florist and her estranged husband. They then became a County Market and closed almost a decade ago. Weis owns the property now, I'm assuming so no competitor moves into town. The next door area was a doctor's office once occupied by the last real family doctor - a man who delivered over 6000 babies, including me. Next to that was a CVS, and then the still present Holiday Hair. If you round the corner, there was an eye doctor. It's a nice place to live, but I wouldn't want to visit here ;)

I lived there 2 years ago for 20+ years. There was a murder in the office of BiLo. Heartbreaking story. It was a BiLo before county market. Some of the other shops were physically therapy offices. The entire mall has had several changes. The Goodwill store is the most successful store. It's in the old Ames store. They put a Peebles store in years later to the right, and that didn't do well. You should make a trip downtown. Many empty buildings.

I live one town over and go to that plaza quite often so let me clear up some confusion for you. What you said about it being a Weis or a Bi-Lo, you are correct, it was a Bi-Lo before it was County Market. Before it was Bi-Lo, it was a Riverside. When it became Bi-Lo is when that big glass dome entrance was added on. Weis is down the road from there. You have confirmed my suspicion that Weis bought it so no other stores can go in there and have no compilation (those bastards). Wei’s is like the only grocery store in town (besides Hometown market but that’s kinda small compared to Weis). By the sounds of what you said, Weis bought it and turned it into a refrigeration center. The reason the parking lot is blocked off is because big rigs would park in there and they didn’t want them to park there. The other store you looked into was a CVS Pharmacy. Before that, it was called Fay’s Pharmacy. CVS moved down the road from there. If you went back out on the highway by McDonalds and looked right, you probably would’ve seen it. Weis Market is also down that way. There was somebody shot in the employee break room not long before it closed. I this it was husband and wife. The wife was shot by the husband. Not sure if she survived or not. I remember towards the end of our shopping trips (my mom and I), the power went out. My mom was freaking out and I was like “yeah, this is cool. I always wanted to shop at County Market while the lights were off”. When it was Bi-Lo, there was a lobster tank in the back in the meat section where I would always go to watch them while mom shopped (I never knew they were for sale) and in the front of the store, there was a snack bar. They gave out free cookies and I would always get a cheese dog. I miss the days where it was the closest thing we had to a Wal-Mart…the grocery section anyway. The rest of our little Wal-Mart was over at Ames where the Bealls and Good Will stores now stand. I would love if Weis would sell this place to someone who would make a nice department store out of it. I remember shortly before County Market was closing, there was barely anything on the shelves. I pretty much screamed “no wonder this place is in danger of closing! They don’t have anything on the shelves!”. Kinda sad to see the shape it was in before it closed.

According to Google maps the other Weis was open in 2009, so this probably wasn’t a Weis, however, as a Weis employee, it’s possible that they could have owned this building and leased it out. They probably use it for storage or something now as it would seem. Sometimes Weis does weird things with buildings that they own. That outside window is most likely for the money transport service to collect the money without going inside the store. It looks like a cash office or money office behind it. And it’s right up front where these offices usually are.

I haven't been that way in over 10 years (my mother and grandmother are both buried in the Cemetary). There was a Weis market that I visited many times, but it was more right on the edge of the town. It was in the back of a shopping centre, with a McDonald's I believe. I used to shop there a lot and I had some friends who worked there as well. It originally started out as a BiLo. After BiLo closed, it was a county market there. After County Market closed, it has sat there empty every since. That little strip mall that it is in used to be a busy little place. There used to be a big medical center next to County Market. There was a pharmacy next to that and a hair salon in the end. I think the only thing left on the side now is a hearing center. There used to be a computer place on the side. I forget the last few things that were along the side. There was a really sad situation in that County Market a few years before it closed. There was a lady that worked there. I am not sure if he was abusive or if she had a protection from abuse order against him. He went in the store one day and asked where his wife was. When they ended up face to face, he pulled out a gun and shot her. She was killed. It was a sad situation.

It was actually a murder/suicide because he shot himself as well. The first big area that you said had a sign that read Penn Highlands, was the medical center. The next place that you were not sure of it was a store or pharmacy, it was a pharmacy. They would have blocked things off because there is a lot of people that loiter and hang out in that parking lot even after everything else is closed. They were probably worried about vandalism. Another cool little thing that I think you might like to know. Where that Goodwill is now used to be an Ames for many, many years. If there is anything else that I can shed any light on for you, please let me know.

The homicide that occurred in this store happened in the break room. It was a former PA state trooper who was released from county jail after violating a pfa order. He disguised himself wearing a trench coat carrying a shotgun he took his wife's life then took his own life. He was given divorce papers which sparked his actions. If he would of not been a police officer he would of not been released from jail for violating a pfa and maybe this incident could of been prevented.
