This abandoned funeral home was located in Chicago, Illinois. The funeral home was built in 1939 and was an ornate Romanesque light brick and stone, two-story structure. It housed the funeral home business on the first floor and the residence upstairs on the second floor.
Although the original use of the building is unclear, records indicate that it was home to a couple of different funeral home business over the years, with the last one
being established in the 1990’s.
The last funeral home to operate from the location was a family owned and operated business.
It had a great reputation in the local area, as they were known to go “above and beyond” for the decedents, their families, and their loved ones. The funeral home specialized in traditional funeral services, cremations, grief and loss support, urn and vault selection, and veteran burial services.
The funeral home was a very small business, as it only had a staff of 3 full time employees. The owner was also the funeral service director and seemed to have done most of the work himself, giving the patrons an intimate and personal experience.
Unfortunately, the funeral home’s owner suddenly passed away in 2013 and the business operations were suspended.
Without the beloved owner and director, the funeral home struggled to reopen and eventually was permanently closed.
