In 1974, mainland Chinese businessman Yu Pang-lin - a billionaire philanthropist
bought the property from Golden Harvest studio founder Raymond Chow
for about HK$1 million.
Many of his properties were rented by love hotel operators, earning Yu a moniker he detested - “Love Hotel King”
Yu planned to sell the house in 2008 to raise funds for Sichuan earthquake victims in mainland China,
but scrapped the plan when fans urged him to restore and preserve it. He said he would donate it to the public for restoration.
Yu then negotiated with the government to turn 41 Cumberland Road into a Bruce Lee museum complex equipped with a cinema,
library and martial arts centre. He asked that the building’s floor space be increased to 30,000 sq ft.
However, the plans never came to fruition. After Yu and the government failed to come to an agreement on the scope and size
of the development, the museum idea was quietly dropped in 2011.
In May of 2015, the property’s owner Yu Pang-lin died of an undisclosed illness in Shenzhen at the age of 92, leaving the
fate of the property - valued at more than HK$100 million as of 2011 - uncertain.

You're lucky to still be able to visit an abandoned place & not have it destroyed by vandals. Here in the US or Canada, a place abandoned for a few months is destroyed... walls broken through, carpets torn up, graffiti everywhere, plumbing removed, and the list goes on. We're so wasteful. Those abandoned items & materials could be repurposed or used by those who don't have much money. Safe travels & great video!

You expressed your thoughts regarding Bruce lee and shock at his home being abandoned and I agree. I'm a 52 year old martial artist who was 7 when first inspired by Bruce lees attitudes and philosophy to life and the fighting arts. I'm shocked that his Hong Kong home was not preserved and utilised. A museum, training facility and theatre would be perfect ! I for one would make the trip from New Zealand to train in his old home, and perhaps watch one of his movies.

That wasn't his dog although his first dog was a German Shepherd/Alsatian. His dog at the time of his death was 'Bobo', or 'Bo' and it was a Great Dane. The Lee family had a lot of animals. The problem with owning a dog in Hong Kong and working in the USA a lot is that you can't take it back and forth. I don't know who the German Shepherd belonged to as he had a lot of family living there. I'm sure it was okay whoever it belonged to..

Exploring With Steve Thanks for your reply and I "get it" that homes such as that in a country like Hong Kong would be extremely expensive but at the same time .. it's just hard to fathom cause there's not much to a home like that whether it be Bruce Lee who resided there or a bag lady off the streets. Even 1 million is just way too much for such dwellings but I guess coming from the western mind it's just hard to grasp. I've seen way more beautiful homes in Hong Kong advertised in Architectural Digest before and they sold for less the a MIL. Guess it really just gets down to the fact that B. Lee once lived there and called it home?? Very interesting all the way around from the vid you did which by the way you did an excellent job on to the subject matter. There will never be another Bruce Lee!! R.I.P. King of Martial Arts. Peace and Love to all!

Exploring With Steve P.S. - Would be awesome of Linda Lee would take a trip back there to their old home there in Hong Kong and do a short documentary kind of like what you did and let everyone know what each room was used for etc... and show comparison pictures side by side of the rooms the way they looked while they lived there and what it looks like now. I'm just really flabbergasted and sad to know that the house is just sitting there with no one living in it and has been let go. Yes it would be great if the town would turn it into a museum. They should have done that not long after Bruce died! Again, thanks for your wonderful videos. Keep up the great work you do! :)

Yes and I respect your opinion just as much as you respect mine. But Bruce Lee was a beloved actor/martial artist back in the day. I don't obviously see as to how the mafia could've threatened him for whatever reason they could've had against him. I mean he was a top martial artist! He knew how to defend himself. And by the way he died from an allergic reaction due to a medication given to him prior to a headache before he went to sleep forever...
@syneiro5497
@syneiro5497 7 жыл бұрын
Oh well whatever happened back then happened back then. There is nothing we can do anything about it today. Let's just let Bruce Lee rest in peace from all of the conspiracy theories and move on from that. I know that's what he would've wanted.

Bruce and Brandon were my idols too. I was obsessed with learning their styles, studying every move until I could pull them off. That was from 1989-2003. Then I stopped practicing trading in my spring ups, backflips, kicks & punches for alcohol. Sucks. That feels like a lifetime ago. Everyone knew me for my ability to fight using much of what I learned from The Lee’s including Shannon and Ip Man. At 37 I’m still a fan, wondering how I can get back into it to help me recover my balance & dexterity after suffering 5 strokes due to a case of meningitis that went left untreated for a month. Luckily just 10 months later (after a month in ICU and rigorous cognitive & physical therapy 5 days a week) I’m pretty much back to normal.

Appreciate the video but you said in the video it was abandoned for 'several years' 11:52 and you reacted like it throughout the video. However there are SO many clues that showed that this building was only recently abandoned... how can a so called urban explorer miss all these clues?.... the calendar 11:00, the A/C remote still with battery power 5:57, the water not evaporated from the jugs, how relatively clean and tidy the place is etc. The plants & weeds outside aren't even that overgrown.

Great video. I went to Hong Kong in 1999 and went to the house on Nathan Lane. I had heard it was a motel for afternoon trysts. My wife went with me, and I just walked in like I owned the place and walked around. If a door was open I peeked in. They finally asked us to leave.....nicely. But I got to go into Bruce's old home. The parking area in the front would conceal all the business mens cars so no one could read the license plates. They would pull a large curtain across the back of the cars as soon as one would park. Funny how nobody complained about it in the middle of a neighborhood. Thanks again for the video.
