Abandoned Hospital - Sunset, Perth Western Australia

Sunset Hospital is a former hospital and aged care facility located in Dalkeith, Western Australia. Built in 1904-1906 it was decommissioned in 1995 and was classified by the National Trust in 1993 and heritage listed in 1997. The buildings has sat, mostly empty since. The land on which Sunset was built was originally chosen as an out-of-the-way site, the suburb of Dalkeith has developed into one of Perth’s most exclusive suburbs, with an average house price in the millions of dollars. Sunset is one of Western Australia’s largest and most intact heritage sites. The area now sits largely empty and waiting on restoration/renovation into a heritage precinct for the arts and culture.

What an interesting site! Great it's being repurposed rather than knocked down and the whole site bulldozed. Such a beautiful outlook, on the top of the hill. Beautifully open and what a view! I see the endless blue sky's are in season once again! In UK we're currently in the grip of "Storm Christophe" expecting 100/150 mm of rain over a 2/3 day period! Accompanied by gale force winds. Still at least it's rubbish weather during lockdown, nobody wants to go out in it! Thanks for my sunshine fix! Take care, stay safe, ❤️ ❤️ ❤️

Hey Rosemary, great to hear from you. Omg.. that Storm Christophe sounds really bad.. just what you all need when you are in lockdown.. stay safe.. Yes it is great they are repurposing it, don’t think they can bulldoze it now that it has been heritage listed. They are million dollar views on top of that hill.. I just read something that the government sold off a small parcel of the land (that the matrons house use to sit on) for 8.5 Million (AUS). Apparently it only represents 2-3% off the total land area.. so that gives you an idea of how much the land is worth in Dalkeith. It was a hot day when I filmed.. totally opposite to the weather you are having over there. ❤️

The views over the river are beautiful Helen.. and the picnic tables are a great spot to stop and just sit for a while.

It is a great place Maki. It was my first time to Sunset when I shot the video.. I wonder how creepy it is at night time.. but by day it’s beautiful. Under those big fig trees overlooking the river is beautiful. Thank you for your support Maki. I really appreciate it. Someone who watched one of my videos recommended me doing a video on Sunset.. which is why I went.. Do you have any favourite sports around Perth?

Well that’s a blast from the past , Sunset Hospital has been up for renovations for Yonks ,but no positive upgrades from numerous WA Government’s and Pigs can fly who knows McGowen might surprise us ??🤔 .Anyway your on the right path highlighting Perth’s History , taking us to our local culture that all the posh advertising over the years have failed to do ,they forget the locals.Further along following the river there are many beautiful parking inlets aren’t there and an abundance of places the public have never visited so great for picnics and supreme views of the Swan river so good of you for taking the trouble giving us the opportunity on your videos to be aware of them 👏👏. Following onto Queenslea Drive is Bethesda Hospital (where I used to work ) there is a Cafe in the foyer (not so great now ) but worth having a coffee and a naughty to sit and admire the vista view and Claremont Yacht Club where we Nurses used to be invited to Twilight Sailing on Wednesday evenings I suppose they are called Perks 🤣 . Looking forward to your next adventure you will be giving us 🙋‍♀️👍

Oh wow Rosalie, those twilight sailing perks sounds lovely! Yes there are incredible stops to stop, walk or picnic around the river., that many people should even know are there. The river around Sunset Hospital is breathtaking. Very much a hidden gem.. but guess that also adds to its appeal.. I was the only one walking around that part of the river the day I filmed. Let’s hope they do get to restore the buildings at sunset.. I think there’s some events coming up at the Perth Festival which are taking place in the grounds of Sunset.. But yes like you said, lets hope those pigs can fly and find the money needed to bring these old buildings back to life. 😃

Thanks Dex, I’m never sure about the on camera stuff.. and I never know what to say.. lol.. especially hard I guess when you’re seeing something for the first time.. Hope you like the dramatic music for the intro.. Was my first time using music like that.. hopefully it gave the slightly creepy vibe..

A really important site. Let's just hope they get on with the renovation before it starts to decay too much. Never been there to have a look around. Would love to get permission to film it inside and out.

OMG.. I’d love to get permission to film there inside and out.. It’s totally open for the public to walk through the grounds, all picnic areas etc are open.. very interesting walking around and reading the history on all the plaques around the site. Yes lets hope the renovation starts soon, you’re right you wouldn’t want it to decay too much.. I just hope everyone can respect the site until they can fund the renovations.. I did speak to a lady that works in one of the buildings there as well as a man that was part of the Film & TV Museum they are trying to set up there.

Good stuff) Please improve resolution.1080 is low quality for today. Colours are too vivid.

Hey Jefim. Thanks glad you liked it.. And thanks for the feedback.. I did film it in 4K.. maybe the LUT i used in editing was a little over done and also may have caused it to be lower resolution??.. or KZfaq may still be processing the video to the higher resolution.. either way, I’m new to all this and learning as I go.. so appreciate the feedback.. Thanks mate.

@@GrantMenner As I saw In a video You got IPhone. Try lumafusion. It is best editing app for apple. You pay ones 45 aud. You can upload video after editing straight away to KZfaq in 4k 60fps and hight bit rate. Usually one or two days KZfaq keep quality in 1080 then 4k.

Yes I use lumafusion.. its a great editing app. I’m sure I uploaded it to youtube at the highest bit rate at 4K.. but it was probably only just gone 24hrs after I uploaded it last night. I must have to wait longer, like you said maybe 2 days for youtube to finish processing it to 4K.. do you know if when using luma fusion and apply a lut or do the colour correction it changes the video resolution to a lower resolution? Thanks again, love your tips.. do you use lumafusion too?
