In this edition of Abandoned Iceland, news editor Andie Sophia Fontaine and her lovely wife Ada travel with photography editor Art Bicnick to beautiful, mysterious Snæfellsnes. They pay visits to some of the more popular spots on the South Coast, speak to some locals on how they're dealing with the lack of tourists, and enjoy the natural beauty that this region has to offer on this cold but sunny day. Enjoy!

Thank you--Lovely and informative video tour. When I visited Iceland in 2016, the Snaefellsnes Peninsula was a stunningly beautiful highlight. Just to the west of the Arnarbaer cafe can be seen two peaks that, one version of the legend says, are troll lovers who were caught by the sun and turned to stone; at the cafe there, I had the most beautiful piece of cod I've ever seen and delicious mushroom soup. At Mt. Botnsfjall, the cleft of the Raudfellsgja gorge leads back to a hidden waterfall. According to Jules Verne, the tip of volcano is called Scartaris and is the opening to the path leading to the center of the earth, and my tour guide made a few phone call trying to verify this as an Icelandic name, but it seems that it is an invention of Verne; no matter--what a story! Several fat seals sunned themselves off the beautiful golden beach and large black rocks at Ytri-Tunga; the sea there is a brilliant ultramarine blue. At Arnarstapi, I just drank in the beauty of the rock formations and Mt. Stapafell. I agree with Andie about the wonderful silence and how it focuses your awareness on the surreal beauty of the place. It was an enchanting day, washed in the startling purity of the summer sunlight. Even now, Iceland bewitches me!

Fascinating.... I would be inclined to walk around as if it was home; alas, I should have come when I was filled with youthful vigor, and without the fear of adventure ! Maybe there is someone from there to befriend? to share adventure with ?
