Welcome to Holland Village
a replica of Gouda and Hoorn in the Netherlands, was inaugurated in 1983. It was developed by Yoshikuni Kamichika, who later established another Dutch-inspired park nearby known as Huis Ten Bosch, in 1992 which became more successful and still thrives today. The park spans 16.5 hectares and also includes Mansions that belonged to the owner who would live on the property. His backyard was basically the theme park he owned as well!
holland village initially achieved significant success due to the asset bubble economy in Japan, leading to an increase in domestic travel and tourism spending. At its zenith in 1990, the park attracted nearly 2 million visitors annually, but by 2000, the annual visitors dwindled to 219,000. The park was shut down in 2001. In 2003, Saikai City purchased the property and reopened it in 2005 as Cas Village, a restaurant hotspot, after spending about 1.5 billion Yen on renovations. However, the venue was forced to close six months later due to the operator's bankruptcy. Over the years, many park buildings have suffered termite damage and are currently not leaseable.
In 2016, the present operator entered into a contract with Saikai City, the property's owner, to rent a small portion of the park and buildings at no cost for a decade. The city invested 400 million Yen on exterior refurbishments, while the operator contributed 150 million Yen for interior improvements and infrastructure development. In 2021, safety issues were identified with the waterfront's wooden deck, yet again leading to a temporary shutdown of the park.
The park, once a beacon of cultural exchange and domestic tourism, is now a ghost town, its deserted pathways and vacant buildings leave a reminder of a time when it was a bustling hub of activity. Despite the city's and various operators' attempts to revive it, Holland Village remains a relic of the past, its future uncertain, its present a stark contrast to its vibrant past.

I'm from The Netherlands. It definitely looks like Holland! 'Huis ten Bosch' is were our king and queen currently living. The 'Garfield' costume is actually 'Loekie de leeuw' (the lion). It was seen between the commercials on television many years ago. Were have you been in the Netherlands? Greetings (groetjes) from Holland! 🇳🇱

The costumes you found remind me a lot of a figure that was shown on dutch tv, during the commercialbreaks. The figure was called Loeki de leeuw (the lion) Later they would add more characters. There is stil a price called de gouden leeuw for the best commercial and de loden leeuw for the worst one. At 29.02 in your video near the upper right corner you can see a head,, that is the exact image of Loeki.

So sad it's been left to rot as its got so much potential. Japan should restore what is restorable & ditch the decaying buildings & fix minor water leaks,overgrowth & board walks.Turn it into a modern day exclusive retreat for rich businessmen or well off families..cheers from sth Australia 🇦🇺 👍 m8. Great content always brother.

The yellow mascot is called “Loeki the lion”. Loeki was famous in television commercials for decades in the Netherlands. His catchphrase was “Asjemenou”. That could roughly be translated into “oh dear”. Not literally. But is is an expression.

First off such a rad place, thank you for spending the time and money to travel to these places. I’m curious if you edited this one yourself or sourced it out? Didn’t seem like your normal editing style but it could have also been there was so much to show and you had to cut a bunch. The “mansion”. I believe was more of a center price for the resort, no one lived there or at least maybe someone did then the property was sold and they built a park around it. The metal pieces in the stairs which is called nosing is a safety thing, a wealthy person would not want those in their house for aesthetic reasons. If it was the original house on the property it was probably a museum or it was turned into an office building
@jannaashton6874

I noticed the choppiness of the edit also. All that build up to the view of the escalator and it was on the screen for barely a second lol 😂 been watching Steve’s videos for a long time so this one seemed a bit different in editing. Great subject matter, just wish he would’ve lingered a tad longer on a few items of interest.
