Abandoned Long John Silvers - Chambersburg, PA. Closed in 2020 due to multiple health code violations, the restaurant has never reopened its doors as a result and sits in a prime location for food service on a busy section of US Route 30.

We had a Long John Silvers that looked just like this in Lancaster, Ohio. It closed about 15-20 years ago, and I miss it so much!

Aww man I to go there sometimes as a teen. Didn’t realize it closed as it’s been awhile since I’ve passed through the area. That’s gross about the health code violations 🤢🤮

I bet whoever buys that building they'll tear it down and put a nicer looking place cause I bet the electric and other things are terrible in that building..

My husband and I was there about 2 years ago I had fish and he got chicken and the food didn’t even taste good. That’s why I don’t eat out . Thank you for sharing this.

We stopped at LJS one time the fish was overcooked and greasy, we got a two piece fish dinner each ,and I couldn't believe it was almost $20.00. I said wow for another $2.00 we could have both ate at Texas Roadhouse and got 6oz steak, salad and baked potato. I have nothing against Long John Silvers but for that price we are watching our pocket book in these days and time.

You have to look at what they are. It could be as minor as not covering the silverware properly. Many can be corrected right away. They aren't always something like mold or rotting food sitting around like people think. The health departments could hit most people's kitchens with that many violations.

Th Long John Silver's at the Valley Mall in Hagerstown MD is doing well. It's been there for many years.

I grew up in Greencastle, PA in the 1980’s and 90’s. This was the Long John’s my family and I enjoyed during those years. Magical memories. Not surprised it’s closed, though. Long John’s as a chain has been fading for a long time.

Spent many a dollar there but that was 11-20 years ago. Been in FL 11 yrs. Hit that drive thru bunch of times. Wife liked McD fries so we’d hit both places for different items then sit down by the stream and watch the ducks. Simple things for a simple mind. That dead end went to Walker Rd and lots of luck trying to get out even for a right turn. Interior was fine when we frequented.

This restaurant has seen better days, but the Long John Silver's in my local area is still going strong! I don't eat there very often! ❤😘👍 I enjoyed watching your video! It was awesome! Thank you so much!

I haven't seen seats with the flags on it since 1994. That was when Weatherford LJS remodeled. Got rid of everything with a nautical theme. Plain blue seats with no flags. And I'm not surprised about being shut down.

If your ever in the area again you need to check out the old sears at the Longmeadow shopping center (closed early 2000s and has a epic label scar, the logo is even older than the 90s one). And the old sheetz in greencastle.

That was the second Sears store in Hagerstown. They moved from the downtown in the late 1950s when the shopping center was built. There was a demolition sign on the building recently. I think it's too far gone to renovate.

There was a Long John Silver's in Warner Robbins, Georgia that you had to roll your passenger window down to place your order and you also received your food through the passenger window. I asked the cashier why it was built like that and she told me that the city made them build it that way to keep traffic from backing up onto Watson Blvd. That LJS I believe has since closed

I worked at this one the mold was around the freezer. The thing that got us shut down was the exterior wood rot. It was bad the sign was barly staying on.

Holy crap I was going to say I just ate there but... you said may of 2020 man where does the time go! I had no idea this one was closed. They did re-do that intersection where you was showing g by the drive thru. That was and entry and exit at one time

I just remembered. I think that may be the area where there used to be an Arthur Treacher's Fish and Chips. They had real fish and chips. Tasty. A lot of health department violations are minor things and are often corrected before the inspector leaves.

Yeah they're still around. Not as common as they used to be but they're still around here and there.

I actually went here in 2017 with my mother and one of the tiles from the ceiling fell right in front of me when entering the building. When we talked to the manager they just placed it back up and it fell again before i left.

I used to live on the other side of creek behind you, I used to love LJS food but one walk in that place and I just couldn't do it. It was the filthiest most poorly run place I think I have ever been inside!!! A hushpuppie sounds pretty good though lol, wonder if any clean ones left around nearby.

Captain D's is a little better, and there is one in Manassas, Virginia which has been "temporarily closed" since March 2020.

@@brianleeper5737 yeah I doubt they’re coming back. The bf and I used to go to that Captain D’s every once in awhile. I like basic fried shrimp and that hit the spot for what it is.

@@retroholic5628 It's a couple miles closer to me than the Long John's in Dale City. Someone said they were remodeling it. But I asked if they saw any ladders. Nope. Everyone knows that every contractor ALWAYS leaves at least one ladder at the jobsite, and sometimes never bothers to come get it.

There is a abandoned Kmart in Chambersburg did you check that out? The Kmart in Waynesboro is gone it's new construction it's a Martin's.

I don't know if that would be reason to close it. That's sounds like a normal inspection for a Hardee's. Health code violations are common and they rarely close a restaurant.

LJS is not a Yum! brand any more. It was sold (without A&W, which was part of LJS) in late 2011. Since the new owners of LJS did not take A&W, Yum! spun it off to be its own company again.

i live in chambersburg. i never ate at long john silvers because i heard too many complaints from people. supposedly they also used to complain about the ducks that live in the creek behind them and the mcdonalds next door.

At one time it was a good place to eat..to exit the parking lot you never pulled out on route 30...you used exit behind restaurant. When McDonald's renovated, they changed the back area which affected Long John Silver's.

It's a shame, because LJS had been bigger than Captain D's at one point. Now, Captain D's is bigger, and LJS continues to shrink and have problems.

Bad news. I'm told the Valley Mall LJS in Hagerstown MD is clising after 49 years in that location. I thought it was doing okay but who knows why these businesses close a location.

It DID NOT close because of previous violations. It was closed down because corporate was tired of putting money into it. It was after may of 2020 when it closed i was the GM when it was closed. Check the new inspections after may 2020.

Someone will probably raze the building, and build their own thing, especially if it needs mold removal and fixing, because something caused that mold to begin with.

Is there already a BURGER KING near here? Maybe they could open here if there isn't already one nearby. There was a closed Long John Silver's in the Poconos which became a Burger King about three years ago. Interestingly there had been a Burger King nearby in the 90's, but it closed years before they came to the closed LJS site!

This place died because it was in the middle of a highway with heavy traffic all the day. It was probably very difficult for the customers to enter and exit the place. The whole section of Lincoln Way in Chambersburg is slowly dying because the high speed limit and no protection for pedestrian. Many business in the area are abandoned like this one. No investor will put any money to revive any of these building under these traffic conditions that only benefit these speedy drivers running on both directions of Lincoln Way.

People can exit out the back. Really not that hard. Also, what abandoned businesses ? If you're talking about the old Exxon across the street. Many people have wanted to buy or use the property but the owners ( I hear it's the same people who own the McDonald's franchise) won't let them.
