These trains aren’t even that old compared to some of the other rolling stock NJT has. 4417 was built in 1995. They were supposed to be overhauled in about 2009, but they retired them in 2012. The state still owes the Feds a ton of money on them.

Now you’ve got explore the rest of the Lackawanna Cut-off! I think you’ve been to the Paulinskill Viaduct but in between these locomotives and the viaduct is 30 miles of an amazing feat of engineering including a tunnel! Work is just starting on the line to restore it after 40 years of abandonment so be careful in that respect.

Or large fortune I dunno but it seems like a poor decision to leave them all in the woods to rot. They should have cashed in on them while they were all running. Now they're just wasting away. Wonder if any of them can be started with a small tune up lol.

@apocyldoomer

Can’t carry a concealed handgun in Commie New Germany, err, Jersey! A soldier driving thru NJ , going to Georgia, had several firearms in his vehicle, stopped by the jackbooted NJ State troopers, convicted and sentenced to a long prison term. There was such an outrage by the public of NJ and a talk show, that then Gov. Christie had to step in , pardoned him, and sent him free from the prison. NJ is a very anti-firearm State, against law abiding gun owners, the strictest gun laws in our Nation, it’s a “police State” for real, I live 20 minutes away, used to work in NJ, not anymore, I hardly ever enter that Communist State anymore. Ridiculous!!!

I remember when the ALP-44s were new! Doesn't seem that long ago, and in fact, they were retired prematurely because NJ Transit bought all of those heavy multilevel cars and the 44s couldn't haul them as well as the newer ALP-46s. Such a waste. In fact, I can remember when NJ Transit leased a MARC AEM-7 and ran it down the Coast Line to Long Branch to evaluate performance before placing the ALP-44 order (the 44 being essentially the same as an AEM-7). I wonder if they can still even roll. They're gonna have to get 'em out of there somehow when they start using the new Andover extension on the Lackawanna Cutoff.

I wish people on the Internet would stop using the word abandon without doing proper homework, and just trying to get click bait. They are on storage they were sealed tight until people broke into them, but those locomotives are still being paid for they cannot sell them or scrap them. The state have to hold onto them till the lease is paid off. They were used in service for a short amount of time before they decided to go with the new modified locomotives that are diesel/electric. That track is the old Lackawanna cut off to Pennsylvania. It was tore up by Conrail so that they wouldn’t have a freight competitor back in the late 70s. Without permission the state owns the right of way they are currently in the process of restoring the right of way today service will return to at least Andover with future plans returning back to Pennsylvania .

The graffiti on the train reminded me of some historic graffiti I heard about, maybe saw a documentary, I don't remember. Some of it dated back to the civil war. Oh it may have been at Belle Grove Plantation in Middletown Va. Went there several years ago. The tour guide showed where some civil war soldiers carved there names on some door posts. Also an old church in Mt Jackson Va discovered some historic graffiti on walls inside church, documented by experts and covered with hard transparent glass or plastic to preserve it. I thought that was interesting
