The Bergen Street express station is infrastructure built along with Jay Street -MetroTech , Hoyt Schermerhorn and Court Street stations for the Staten Island connection tube via Fort Hamilton Parkway that unfortunately wasn’t built because of the Great Depression and Second World War ! This project was part of the IND second system along with the South 4th street Brooklyn mammoth station that also was part of the second system !

@Mr.DeStylez Honestly, I think the iusse with thar is that f express service is extremely limited, do there just isn't gonna be much of a benefit to rebuilding these platforms.... It would kinda be like building a third track at Broad Channel. Would help, but not by much.

I remember way back in the 80's when i was kid the lower level was used during rush hours as a express stop during peak service. The lower level was also used during service disruptions when a GG trains or a F was stuck or delayed upstairs, the booth clerk had to open up the locked gates with his keys and guide passengers downstairs. I remember the dim lighting from the incandescent light bulbs, the smell & the huge water leak issues it had. During the 90's station re-hab, the gates were removed and replaced with stainless steel doors, the later generations will never know how the subways & service was back then.

Lmaooo, no way you were walking on the 3rd rail protection cover. Those things aren’t as strong as you think (that’s why track workers NEVER do that) Be careful. Would be a shame if the cover broke, and you fell onto the 3rd rail.

It's not so bad. A bit of power washing, a lick of paint, plug the water leak, resurface the stairs and platforms, install a couple elevators, and Bergen St could become quite a useful little transfer hub.

Years ago my job required me to get to a terminal in the lower level. They took me through the doors you exited to the upper level and I went down to the platform and crossed the tracks to the opposite side where I found the terminal. I think there were MTA workers down there too. It’s strange being on the tracks when trains are passing the switch going to the upper level.
