Welcome to Wonderhussy Adventures #234
Exploring an abandoned gas station and campground at the side of old Route 66 in Arizona. Did this place go out of business because of Interstate 40 being built? Or....is it CURSED?? Come to find out, it was also the site of a HIDEOUS and VERY GRISLY massacre of Apache Indians who had angered the wrong band of Navajo. The Apache hid out in a cave underground, but the Navajo figured out where they were....and killed them all!!! The cave is still there to this day, and anyone brave enough can go down there and find out for themselves if it's haunted....or not! Let me do the dirty work for you, while you sit home and watch from the safety of your sofa. YIKES!!!

A modern service station was built at Two Guns in 1963, and in the late 1960s a motel, western tavern, reptile exhibit, and new zoo were added. Later, a Shell service station was built and a KOA campground opened. The decline began in earnest in the mid 1970's as the Energy Crisis and repeated recessions occurred.

So props to this wonderful ❤️ wandering explorer . National Geographic kept me hypnotized as a youngster . Today I have this treasure known as Wonderhussy . Who knows her shit . I can tell you that I did swim in that pool when I was a kid & yes it was a KOA KAMP! The logo shape is clear in the sign. Then there is the K instead of a C in camp. Also, the office/gift shop had a specific shape that was KOA all the way in the good old days traveling route 66! I don't remember much about the caves, but I do remember thinking it was better than Disneyland or Knox Berry Farm because it didn't have those long lines! Nice piece & I'm kind of sad to see it in ruins....but I guess that's just the way the cookie crumbles!

In Feb & Mar of 1984 my late wife and myself drove from Los Angeles to Mass. We took our time and made a lot of stops along the way. We took I 40 and Route 66 of what was there at the time. We totally loved AZ and NM. Beautiful!

Since the campground building looked like a K.O.A. (before you went to it), I googled "Two Guns KOA campground". Several articles came back saying that it was active from the 1960's to the 1980's. Hope that gives a little perspective. Love your videos.

Hi WH I've actually seen the Apache Death Cave before but not to that depth. Opps, pardon the pun! I believe that most of those stacked stones, glyphs and the stone building on top are native American artifacts are genuine. The lion cages, garage, and other contemporary buildings are not. It was nice to see all the clean up being done on Two Guns. Whom ever is picking up all the trash is doing a good job. Your singing is really good one of these days someone is going to discover you.. I don't know how you do it. When you went back in the cave It was really exciting. I was really happy to see all the twists and turns. That glyph on the ceiling is sacred. They still use the caves for ceremonies. Gave me an uplift. Although you got in there so deep it was creepy! WH-another fantastic video! I remember Two Guns in 1957 being with my parents and started going thru the area again in the early 70s . I still go out old 66 when I go out West-I live in Fla. now, but plan on moving to Bull Head City soon! Take Care!

Love your explorations. The cave is much larger than I anticipated, I have been going into caves and mines since the 60's, One day make stop at this one. I appreciate your love of the desert and all the neat places you find.

Fantastic commentary ,great history, vexing mystery, and a song ,Who could ask for anything more ? Excellent video . That cave was no joke man ,the deeper you went ,the creepier & tighter it got....YIKES ! I wish that place was still in business ,with all it's tourist type charm of old days , i think we need places like that these days ( i'm a sucker for that stuff ) thanx for giving us a tour of that old attraction . Wow! You've never heard of Two Guns before?? 😲 You missed Canyon Diablo that's right there too. It was an old lawless 1800's town with people getting killed all the time. Nothing left of the town but it's pretty cool just to go there. People also go there looking for pieces of the meteorite that fell in that area. The town was named after the canyon there. Diablo Canyon is pretty deep! Lots of history in that area. Read about it when you get a chance. Hope you didn't get an arrow in your tire when you were leaving. LOL! ❤

That gas station was still in pretty good shape in 2001, not sure how long it had been abandoned, but there were still maps in the map rack, and most of the glass was not broken.

An irony here: Just last night, I watched a video from this guy who stopped and checked out the same place. The difference is that he didn't explore it to the extent you did. Thanks for giving us a much better vicarious tour. I often wonder how many men, bigger than I am, are afraid to go in some of the places you enter so cheerfully?

Great Video.... When I was a kid 1958/ Route 66/ on our way to the Magic Kingdom for 4th of July we stopped at the Apache Camp Ground Motel and stayed in a authentic Apache tent for the night..... Good memories

Awesome! Thank you again for showing me a place I didn't know existed. I knew about 2 guns (but not the cave) and actually visited it about 10 years ago when my family went on a "ghost town" vacation. We had a great time. I wish I would have known about you then. I would have hired you as a guide!

Just stumbled upon this AWESOME area just today‼️What a gem 💎. The abandoned graffittied gas station was really cool, & the ruins & Apache Death Cave was even cooler‼️What a bizarre place. Went pretty far back in the cave, what a trip. The most fascinating, random exit lve ever stopped at. GREAT video Wonderhussy‼️😃👍

You Hussy you! Great video. Your rolling commentary peppered with historical nuggets is entertaining and informative. As a Vegas resident it's nice to have a colorful field reporter like yourself giving us arm chair tours of Nevada and the southwest. You'll know you've been vexed by the "Death Cave" if you have a craving for Bison meat and scalp doilies.

I wish she had her own show on television.me and my 6yr old son sometimes lay in bed and watch her videos until we fall asleep.she is really great and I love her commentary and short stories about the sites she goes to.very extensive research.the desert is a beautiful place and it's highly interesting to learn about the literally thousands of small towns that just up and disappear over the decades.

Great adventure as always, very familiar with Two Guns. I do remember some Apache skulls in a display case they said came from the cave. Very strange place even back then, we stayed at the KOA in the 60's when we stayed there, they had a big reptile show, also remember a Cougar in a cage.

That's a KOA building at the campground. Kampgrounds Of America were scattered all over the country. A few still exist. That Shell Service Station was newer than Route 66. It was a "modern" 60's structure. That cave would be a great place for a critter too.

You used to be able to go hundreds of feet down into the cave a few years ago. There are many chambers and cave ins. Appeared to be shorn up pretty good years ago but not maintained for safety. I haven't been back there since 2007. You can get lost in there pretty easy observing everything else except the way back out.

Just discovered your videos this past week and have been enjoying them immensely. You are a Darlin'. You get a fat "Atta Girl," for this one. Hey Wondergirl! I have really enjoyed your work. Probably seen most... if not all of your videos... Love your sense of humor too....You always make me laugh. Saw your "girls guide to car camping" video and have decided to roll with a lot of it. Bought myself a VW Golf (Not as big as the Toyota but really good gas mileage) and I am currently headed across the country, Louisiana to Wash. Canadian border. I'm doing some car camping along the way and using your camping tricks. Thanks for that. looking for a good and current book on hot springs in the west. Not much on amazon... Spelunking is always fun. I went with my brother and his friends to a spot in Santa Cruz California. I was barely 150 pounds back then. Some spots were so tight you had to exhale to empty your lungs and push with your feet. It was a real fun day. Awesome video and history lesson. And stay safe.

Made 2 trips out west from my home-state of North Carolina back in the 1970's. Once in 1973 (I was 10) to visit the Grand Canyon and another time in 1976 when my older sister got married in Utah (she moved there). We pulled a travel-trailer down I-40 both trips and stopped at many of the old Rout 66 attractions that where still operating at that time (40 some years ago). I'm not 100% sure but that campground looks familiar and I am sure we stopped at Two Guns because I remember the story about the Ghost Cave. Thanks for sharing you brought back some memories from my youth.
