I love ABBA. Their music will live with me forever and I am 80! Yes, they can be likened to The Beattles, but with a different style and very warm messages! I love all of their songs. My only regret is that the group had to endure some stressful personal issues, and yet we’re able to perform flawlessly! Their music will live forever too! Thank you ABBA for your music and your songs!

These are wonderful lovely people, they could have just disappeared and they still give us what they can. Very touching to have all of their attention so many years later. I still smile when abba songs come on the radio because no one is making pop music so well anymore, true living legends. They will be remembered as incredible genuine and talented individuals for years beyond their existence because we truly loved them just so much. You can hear them even ask why we love abba and they collectively don't really know why it happened so massively huge with with such strength and longevity. They are perplexed by the whole thing.

I think journalists show their ignorance when they can only reference "Dancing Queen", suggesting Abba was merely a disco band, when they weren't even that. They had hits with so many styles of music. The Bee Gees got tagged as a disco band too, though they were recording first-rate pop songs long before the disco era.
@davidleigh4438 жыл бұрын
Agreed. I have brought that point to people I meet, who were not around in the 70's. I explain that ABBA was NOT a Disco band. Those people only think of ABBA with Dancing Queen and Fernando. Although those are two excellent songs, I have 7-8 of ABBA's song which I like better. For those who need Dancing Queen, there 4 great You Tube videos of that song. There is a live version, I believe from their 1977 tour in Australia; Then there is a video version, where they are performing at a"night club"-Agnetha is wearing a purply top in that vid- looking gorgeous as usual; the Acappella version with Frida and The Real Group performing at Queen Sylvia's 50th birthday Bash in 1993 (sorry no Agnetha in that one); and my favorite edition of DQ is the 1976 performance at the Stockholm Opera or Symphony for Queen Sylvia-she must have been ABBA's #1 Swedish fan. That one has Agnetha and Frida in 18th century style ball gowns-very classy.
@BroccoliBeefed6 жыл бұрын
@hadoenough , Quit being so negative. Without a doubt, Dancing Queen was their biggest worldwide hit ever. It also went no. 1 in the USA, which for them wasn't a small or easy feat. And anyone with as much as a half brain never thought of 'Dancing Queen' as a disco hit. It is a brilliantly crafted piece of pop music like most of their music, incorporating sonatas, orchestral and choral elements, African beats, symphonic influences, etc

I would have to say it was because it was Bjorn that began this and he spoke with the group about working on it. He seemed to be the speaker most of the time when they get together on interviews. Nothing was meant against Frida. She joined in when she wanted. Did you hear what she says....it was HIS baby. He agreed with that statement. Both Frida and Agnetha are beautiful and both have beautiful voices. That is why the group did so well other than the songs written by them. But all of ABBA went through and gave up a lot during their tours. It was overwhelming when they became so popular, and shocking to see fans reaction that was not expected. It was also difficult to sing with the love of your life when things took a turn for the worse. And I can't imagine the heartbreak of not seeing their children when touring all the time. With glory comes heartache. With love of the music world and responsibility for performance comes stress and worry as well as fatigue. But you love what you do until you can no longer do it. That is the music world. All had a part of making the group as popular and wonderful as it was. Benny was excellent on the piano and Bjorn on the guitar...as well as both singing.

I was there on opening day. I was there in the museum when this interview took place. I saw the TV cameras being set up at 12 noon, and I saw the NBC logo, they don't set up for small people. I asked the museum staff about it as my ticket time was for 12 noon, they dismissed it, tersely, strictly, disinterested, as they were instructed to do by Abba Mgmt. They tersely asked me if I wanted to go into the museum, insinuating that if I did not, I would never get in, ticket times were scheduled.

It’s so sad that ABBA is only known for their euro-disco singles. These people were already playing prog music, folk, even delved into pseudo-hard rock with songs like Hey Hey Helen, Watch Out, Tiger, and that legendary performance of Hole in your Soul in Australia. They were more than “Pop”. Between The Album and The Visitors, they showed their artistry with dark music that would completely whack a conventional “Mamma Mia” or “Dancing Queen” fan.

Why do people keep referring to Abba as a 'guilty pleasure'....?.....is it just because enough people have said it that it sounds clever?.....Abba were brilliant....as the decades have passed I really think their music has stood the test of time better than the Beatles......I hear Abbas music much more often than the Beatles and Abba still sound fresh....nothing for anyone to feel 'guilty' about....their records sold enough that I don't think too many people were very 'quiet' about it...
