I remember when Reputation came out and I was listening to it nonstop and honestly couldn’t believe how much I loved it because I hadn’t really been a huge Taylor swift fan and I figured there’s NO WAY she can make a better record than this. .... Then Lover came out and her singles blew up tipping charts left and right and winning awards and not even lying EVERY SINGLE SONG was good. All of them. And that’s more rare than it seems these days. Artists tend to focus on their singles and our all their effort into that and the music videos and production has to be perfect with the assumption that most people won’t ever listen to the entire album anyway so they put less effort into the other tracks but when you hear an album like Taylor’s you appreciate it that much more, you can tell she worked and worked on every song until they were perfectly up to her standards. And of course after Lover last year I thought okay really though there’s no way she can top that, and then the pandemic hit and I was thinking ok surely now she won’t be able to put something out and if she does it won’t get as much attention because of what a shitstorm this year has turned into but then fucking Folklore dropped. She did ZERO press and promo for it and it STILL garnered the same massive adulation. She knew we needed this. Even if it can only distract us for a just a few songs, she worked hard and tried to contribute all she could to spreading genuine hope and sense of belonging in a way. We’re gonna get through this. I’m so happy for her. Just another slam dunk so I guess I should just adjust my expectations from here on out haha

Taylor Swift literally did zero promo ana released it during the middle of a global pandemic and was STILL able to dominate like she usually does when she releases a new album. In fact, the reviews, number of downloads, charts she’s ripping, awards she’s wining have all been even BETTER than normal. Her fanbase has some of the most loyal people I’ve ever seen. Proud to be a Swiftie, even if I didn’t become one until after Reputation, I keep kicking myself for not paying attention for so long. Even Kobe Bryant once said that for Taylor to have been at the top as many time as she has year after year than she must be so hardworking and the real deal. He said there’s no way for her to follow up a number one album with an even better one over and over and maintain that level of success and not be a killer. He’s so right. It’s just likw he was and I think that’s why he likes her so much because they have that same gene that makes them so driven and able to outwork everyone else. She just keeps getting better.
