Using psychedelics to treat depression and trauma has just become legal in Australia. Offering hope to many, it’s not without risk. While many report life-changing benefits, others do not, and many scientists in the field fear the move is premature.
Dr Paul Liknaitsky from Monash University is running a clinical trial looking at psychedelic assisted psychotherapy, with promising results.
Professor Susan Rossell, Swinburne University of Technology, is running a trial with psilocybin, the active ingredient in magic mushrooms, for treatment resistant depression. They’ve had a mixed outcome.
Some are experimenting and using psychedelics illegally. Writer Tim Baker went to an underground practitioner to use MDMA for end-of-life distress.
Vietnam veteran Roger Priest is hoping to be one of the first to legally use psychedelic assisted psychotherapy for treating PTSD with his psychiatrist Stuart Saker.

Yes, but they legally sell them here in the states now, but I think that's a little bit irresponsible with the info they are putting out about their effects on mental health, but not allowing people to know how to heal themselves at home.. I worry that more people might accidentally traumatize themselves further by using them improperly.

Why do people accept 3rd parties regardless of their "EXPERTISE" telling them what they can or can't put into their own bodies? It's not just pathetic,it's draconian in the extreme.

I wish I could say it worked for me, but something went terribly wrong 8 months ago. I took about 2.5 grams. Maybe there was already some third party medicine in my system, but about 20 minutes later I started to get a horrible headache. For 4 hours I shook under the blankets waiting for the trip to end. Long story short, 8 months later, I still have a constant headache. Had MRI's, blood tests, EKG, neurology, psychiatrist, no one can tell me what happened, if it will ever end or if I now have a permanent migraine. It is unlikely I will ever do them again, and I was just trying to treat depression.

Thank you so so much Roger for your service. I’m sorry you have had to go through the horrible mental sides effects of war. My grandfather unfortunately took his life after suffering the same as you on his return after WW2, after 30 plus years he couldn’t do it anymore. I have also suffered from Depression/anxiety/ptsd for many years and most antidepressants also have sent me over the edge and in a downward slope. 15 medications I have tried with no real success. I say give people like us the opportunity to try this stuff, we have nothing to loose, only our luves❤

@@Mannsy83 I've experienced depression for 25 years, with some periods being particularly severe, including hallucinations and a belief that it would never end. Interactions with others would send my mind into chaos, leaving me feeling completely lost and lonely. But let's talk about you. Hang in there. Ayahuasca is unlike any medicine we're familiar with; it's closer to a magical potion than a pharmaceutical drug. Ayahuasca led me to a point where I had to release everything and simply allow it to happen. I understand this may seem counterintuitive in your current state of mind. But remember, Ayahuasca isn't human; it doesn't make mistakes. Since I stopped trusting people completely, Ayahuasca became my only option. If you're interested, I can guide you through the process afterward. Trust in the journey and take the dieta sirously. If you need any other info just ask. let luck guide you. J

I have been depressed for 20+ years ketamine has saved my life. I no longer want to die. It is a crushing debilitating, strangling disease. I have done hours and hours of research on ketamine treatment watching videos reading articles and I’m going to tell you from experience that wanting to die every day and then one day you wake up and you say oh my God I feel so great and lifted-weight😮! It is so incredibly sad to me that one in four Americans have this and 26% of Americans have a mental disorder and insurance will not pay for this insurance does not cover it because the percentage rate is incredibly high for 85% of people who are resistant to anti depressants. I also suffer trauma OCD and ADHD and I have cut my medication’s more than half since I started treatment. big pharmaceutical companies are disgusting and need to get with it and start making insurance companies pay for the treatment because it’s works
