Abe no Nakamaro was a Japanese envoy who experienced Tang dynasty China at the best of time, the height of its golden age, and the worst of time, An Lushan’s Rebellion. This is how he would have experienced the diverse and cosmopolitan Tang dynasty.

I think one of the great “what ifs” in history is if there was no An Lushan Rebellion. The Tang empire would probably fight a series of campaigns to regain Central Asia from the Caliphate. The Byzantines wanted an alliance against them. So Tang may send an embassy to Constantinople through the Khazar Khaganate. A conflict with the Abbasid during the Islamic Golden Age would accelerate the exchange of knowledge and China’s perception of the world. Central Asia would be one fascinatingly complex place in this alternate world.

I don’t know though, Song is a pretty awesome dynasty too, it’s the pinnacle of art in China, even it is just fleeing south from the Mongols like throughout its whole period. If It is always Tang, we will probably have no night life (cause Tang had night curfew), no beautiful festivals, no gorgeous paintings made by emperors themselves… but again it might be stronger and might actually fight off the Mongols

Yes, thank you for planning to do a video about An Lushan Rebellion! I always wanted to know why he decided to become one of the biggest jerks in the world's history while Emperor Xuanzong was being nothing but kind to him! And blaming Yang Guifei for his mess?! That's simply just those stupid male officials are being biased toward women and trying to create some sort of illusion to trick themselves that they have control of the situation by putting blame on a lady who most likely may have nothing to do with this whole mess created two idiots at all! Also, I like the whole Yang Guifei escaped to Japan and live there for the rest of her life. P.S: Abe no Nakamaro deserved to have his own movie that ended with him returned to Japan with Yang Guifei after they faked their deaths in Chang'an.

The situation between the Japanese and Korean relation towards China during the Tang was similar to the relation between the Germanic and Keltic people learning from the Roman Empire. In the end the Germanic and Keltic people were heavily influenced by the Roman civilisation and blended into a particular melting culture, in which the formerly barbarian tribes enjoyed the benefits of roman civilisation.

one point is certain, that is, from the pre -Qin dynasty, there have been 4 times large -scale immigrants from Chinese Han people to enter the Japanese islands and Korean Peninsula, which have a profound impact on the historical trends of China and Japan and ( Korean Peninsula ). Focus on reference materials : Yayoi period 彌生時代 Yamato period 大和时代 Asuka Period in Japanese history (538-710 AD) 日本飛鳥時代 Nara period (710-794) in early Japanese history ) 日本奈良時代 The Chinese carefully taught the primitives of Japan (and korea) at the time to teach the knowledge of rice, cutting wells, manufacturing agricultural tools, spreading medicine, textiles and other knowledge. They pushed Japan from the brutal primitive society to a slave society. Chinese Han people's four large -scale immigrants enter the Japanese islands record : 1. Qin and Han Dynasty Qin Shihuang (秦始皇 259-210 BC) swept the six regions. In order to escape the war, the Chinese people fled to Japan in two ways: Some Chinese people crossed the sea from the Northeast to the Korean Peninsula to Japan. Japan. 2. During the Wei, Jin, Northern and Southern Dynasties (420 -589 BC) During the period of "Upheaval of the Five Barbarians 五胡亂華", in order to avoid the war, the Chinese people began a wave of migration to a large -scale migration around. Most of the fleeing Chinese finally went to Japan, forming the climax of immigration to Japan. The representative is Liu Azhi (劉阿知), the descendant of Emperor Han Xian(漢獻帝). 3. The Sui and Tang Dynasties (581-907 BC) Japan sent a large -scale Tang ambassador to China to visit China, while China sent a large number of people to spread advanced technology and culture to Japan. Most of these people are monks or cultural scholars. They are left as required by the Japanese because of the difficult sailing and welcomed by Japan. They often stay and "domestication" into the Japanese. The representative is the monk Jianzhen(監真). 4. The Song (960-1279)and Ming dynasties(1368-1644) In the Yuan Dynasty, the Han people in the southern Song Dynasty broke their families. In order to avoid the war and kill, they moved to Japan one after another. The representative of this period was scholar of the Southern Song Dynasty - Lanxi Daolong(蘭溪道隆). -------------------------------------------------------- In ancient China. Due to the escape or expansion of territorial reasons. There were many records of the Han people moved to the Korean Peninsula and the Japanese islands (including Okinawa). Establishing small countries and regimes on these islands (representing Chinese senior officials rather than emperor). In addition to the later period of Japan (because of the ocean). The Han regime on the Korean Peninsula has always been the ancient Chinese territory and the scope of direct jurisdiction (but sometimes it is similar to the different phenomenon of political opinions from the central government. It is similar to the situation in Taiwan and Hong Kong today. When the relationship between Taiwan and Hong Kong and the central government is bad. Sometimes they think they are independent countries or claim to be non -Chinese). The history of the establishment of a regime on the Korean Peninsula (Goguryeo, Baiji, Silla, Goryeo , Joseon). It is not the history of the Korean people. Instead, it is the history of the local regime of the Han people in northern China.These royal family and nobles are Chinese and descendants who move to the peninsula. They are wearing Han nationality clothing and using Chinese characters. They also claim to be the Han family. They are like Hong Kong and Macau and Taiwan. The Han people basically speak two Chinese languages (Chinese dialects+Chinese official language), one of the Han dialects that are lost. * There are more than 100 dialects in Chinese Han nationality. Only some civilians and slaves are indigenous people from the south of the peninsula (Koreans). This is very certain. (A large number of ancient Chinese tombs were unearthed on the 4/5 Korean Peninsula today. Han murals (depicting the lives of the Han people in the north), the fairy and god beast of the Han nationality.Han religion. Chinese character stone monument. Han Dynasty coins. ........... The southernmost part of the peninsula is unearthed in the original and backward Korean national life tools. It can be seen that the extremes of two different ethnic groups( Chinese VS Korean ) and different civilizations exist at the same time in the same period of the peninsula history.

Chinese weren't always the victims! There were various ethnic groups inhabiting lands that are parts of China today but the Han have been the most dominant ethnic group in China -- many ethnic minorities were often displaced. Not to mention that Chinese invaded Vietnam and imposed their influence which is why Vietnamese culture is similar to Chinese culture today. The original Vietnamese culture should be more similar to Thai and Khmer cultures.

Again, thank you for this wonderful video! I'm very interested in history, so I've seen lots of history channels, but most of them talked about european history. You're the only history channel that talks mainly about East Asia, and as a Korean, your videos are very enjoyable. Not nationalistic, humorous, informative, and high quality. But I do have a doubt for this video. At 0:00, it's shown that manchuria, in the year 717 is occupied by Tang dynasty, but as I know, there was Balhae ruling in Manchuria during that time. The kingdom was founded in the year 698. Could you confirm if you made a mistake? Also, it would be great if you mention it in the comment section.

Hey, man. When you question other's statements, it should be you to provide evidence to support your own argument, instead of others. Also, they have discussed Balhae in their previous videos in detail.

@@YL-nx3yk But Y L, I have indeed provided an incontestable information that Balhae existed in the year 717. The kingdom was founded in 698 and fell apart in 926. So it would be wrong to mark Manchuria as Tang dynasty's territory in the year 717.

@@BaptisteLee Hi @@BaptisteLee, you get me wrong. I mean it would be much better for you to provide some documentary evidence to support your argument instead of claiming sth with only words. You know, no everyone knows Balhae, and no everyone has a strong historical background. For example, I found the information about Balhae in wiki, en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Balhae, where it says Balhae last from 698 to 926, but 'In 713, the Tang dynasty bestowed the ruler of Jin with the noble title "Prince of Commandery of Bohai (Balhae)" (渤海郡王). In 762, the Tang formally elevated Balhae to the status of a kingdom.'

@@BaptisteLee I guess one problem here is that people have different definitions for territory and especially in ancient time. A good example here is the empire of alexander the great. Once they won the war, conquest a new kingdom, the local ruling classes submit themselves to the rule of the empire, then they (conqueror) thought the territory belongs to them. However, mostly the local kingdom still exists there.
@YL-nx3yk
@YL-nx3yk 3 жыл бұрын
@@BaptisteLeeAnother example, let us assume one day, Korea invaded China and won the war. But Korea can not kill all Chinese ruling class in their government and directly govern the Chinese citizens, due to the language, culture, and many other reasons. Instead, Korea will just accept the surrender from the Chinese government, make them under the rule of Korea, garrison inside China, get annual money from the Chinese government, control the Chinese army to fight for Korea during wartime. Then, Korea can claim China is their territory, but China still exists at the same time.

Thanks for not depicting Yang Guifei with a reverse goose egg head, those animations of "standard Chinese women" on this channel are hideous (despite generally being quite well illustrated).

14:00 Ah, that explains it, it is simply modern Mainland beauty standards. I actually rarely see reverse goose egg heads on women outside of modern "extreme beauty" things from the Mainland, even Hong Kong hasn't (thankfully) adopted this trend yet.
