I've learned a lot about the RR fight over a hundred or so run attempts. Here's my advice for all three phases of the fight!

It's weird because they technically have health that is separate from the main boss health bar, so you can kill them quickly if you use a strong gun.

Fun tip. With the bullet character, just go up to the cheese bullets when they're together and delete them with Blasphemy

or use fightsabre to deal massive damage by reflecting to the rat due to him firing so many bullets. Actually the entire fight can be cheesed with thr fightsabre

Thats one of the most op wapons in the game When I can’t dodge an attack i just switch to the sword and delete everything ( or do the guard flash glitch ) and then switch to the high damage gun again ( which is also the sword lol )

I love how 3 bosses in this game are metal gear references and they’re all some of the hardest. Gatling gull (Raven) Rat mech (Metal Gear REX) Agunim non-past version (Hind-D) and the honorable mention of the punch-out fight, which while being a punch out reference, it taking place ontop of the destroyed rat-mech with a time-bomb is referencing the fight between liquid and snake atop MG-REX while a time-bomb ticks away

I honestly think the worst thing you can do during the punch out part is panicking because of the time limit, even if the time seems kinda tight (because it is), panicking will probably only screw you over, honestly, In EtG your nerves are really the most dangerous enemy.

Just a couple nitpicks from someone who noticed this a year after it was made, but; 2nd phase has 2 attacks you didn't mention. 1 being the ratbot swarms, and the other being when you've destroyed either the aerial strike cannon or missile drum. The second attack will cause him to swipe his foot across the ground (with an active hitbox that damages Bullet too, iirc) and send out a spread of bullets.

Regular fight is super easy, especially first part once you get the attacks down. Part 2 can sometimes be a bit bullshit but is alright, punchout part makes me want to die

I'm curious, do you play in Turbo or regular speed modes? Personally I find the first phase harder, at least on Turbo speed. The rat attacks come out so fast that you can dodge one attack only to be hit by the thrown daggers before you even come out of your dodgeroll. At least in part two, most attacks have a set pattern that keeps you safe *most* of the time.

The mech actually has an additional attack if you break both weapons, where he will sweep a foot and release waves of bullets.

This is exactly what I was looking for great work with the video edit: okay so I got to phase 2 of the punch out section before dying to the lunging attack. Gonna keep at it. Those moments where he shines gold really don't last long.

This video is nothing short of perfect, it accurately describes the best ways to handle that fight and does so in a way that even beginners could quite easily understand, I recently returned to the game (in an effort to finally get what I was missing for the platnium trophy) and this video helped me immensely. One method you can do to dodge his missile attack is back up to the wall, and try to move to the left or right. Similar to the Dragun's wing attack, all you will need to deal with is just the ones coming directly at you from the sides, which can be dodged over

There are some things that weren’t mentioned. Namely that the mech can also spawn a bunch of those little robot mice things that don’t really have a name, and also that once you destroy both the components on it, the mech will sweep its leg and send two massive parallel bullet waves your way.. Aside from that, this was a very helpful and comprehensive guide to the game’s most complicated fight, and for that, I thank you. Also, fun fact. The single tail whip in phase 2 of Punch Out can be countered despite the lack of any flash, and while it doesn’t grant a star, it’s still worth seeing his reaction every time.

What I didn't like about it the first dozen-or-so attempts of mine, was that I didn't know how to avoid being hit. Some attacks can be ducked (but not blocked), some can be blocked (but not ducked), the left/right dodge is basically worthless, and some attacks can only be countered by hitting the Rat during his vulnerability flash. The solution wasn't just "shoot gun"!

Very solid and indepth vid. Only thing that is missing is coverage for the attack he does in mech phase when you stand on his left or right side. Baiting that attack and dodging down can sometimes be a good tactic when you want to destroy the drum or cannon.

You never want to stand down left of the rat in either of the 1st two phases, cause two attacks in each phase start on the bottom left of the rat, the cheese bullet wave, and the bullet whip in the 1st phase, and the homing crosshair and bullet rings for the second phase, and the single laser attack which will sweep form one side to another and the stomp and sweep they gain when both parts are gone in the second phase which aims on you, so half the time, you need to be on the right, so it’s best if you stay at their right.

if you are lucky enough to get the casey, you can delete the phase 1 starting attack, also works with the bullets sword

Super late to the party but this helped me a lot! In a different way than you’d think. I failed the rat about 20 runs in a row. So I decided I’d try to unlock the gunslinger instead. I used your guide for the lich and successfully banished the evil. And then I played as slinger, adhered pretty loosely to your guide and beat his ass. Still trying to get all 4 keys in one run though. Did get every item other than the boots so I count that as a win.

There’s actually one more attack in the mech phase. If both the barrel and targeting laser are destroyed, the mech will stomp one foot and slide it diagonally spawning bullets facing your direction in which there are gaps you can weave through.

I've found the best way to dodge the misile attack is to head down into either bottom corner when he begins the wind-up, then just run across the bottom part of the room. The misiles do a lot of intimidating swerving back and forth, but they'll always land behind you, and the vast majority of their shrapnel will shoot up into the room. At most you might have to deal with 2 or 3 bullets and you can dodge those by just going up when you reach the other corner.

during the mech phase, if you have the rolling eye, the crosshair attack is one of the easiest attacks in that phase

When he throws the kunai or the does the cheese wheel you could just press left ctrl, then gun menu will show up and the time slows, so you can see direction of projectiles and dodge it

As someone who grew up playing punch out as a kid, the first 2 phases look impossible but I have a feeling I’d crush the punch out phase since he’s using highly telegraphed moves that pull from bald bull, super Macho man, king hippo and piston honda. Just watching this video reminded me of playing punch out for years and hopefully someday I’ll get the chance to take on the rat in fisticuffs.
