Hi Shane, Thanks for reaching out! We're happy to help get you up and running. Regarding your question about the first steps in lawn installation: you identified the two primary approaches in this situation. Approach one is to kill/remove all vegetation so that you've got clean topsoil for your new lawn. People who take this approach often mow vegetation as low as possible, spray herbicides to kill the current unwanted plant life, then remove the dead debris and root balls (the Finish Rake on the SR3 was designed specifically for this purpose). The result is topsoil free of weeds and former plant life that could pop up and choke out the grass seed you'll be installing for your beautiful lawn. The disadvantage of this approach is the time it takes for the multiple actions required, the cost of herbicides (especially given the number of acres you're covering), and the loss of organic material that provides nutrients to the soil. Approach two is to keep the organic material in the topsoil. You would still mow the current vegetation as low as possible but then use an implement with a rotating disc (like our new Food Plot Disc option on for our TR3 or a traditional disc harrow) to turn the top few inches of your land so that the vegetation is buried and the undersoil is revealed. Once the soil has been sufficiently turned and the rootballs broken up by multiple passes with the discs, the SR3 could level and finish the surface and you'd be ready for seeding. The advantages of this approach are the nutrients from the current vegetation are retained in the soil, it's less costly because you're not paying for herbicides, and you don't have to be as conscientious of local waterway regulations because you're not spraying chemicals. The disadvantage is that the seeds of the current vegetation are now buried in the top few inches of your soil and there is a greater likelihood that they will infiltrate your new lawn. Both approaches are valid and effective; you just need to ask yourself a few questions. How much do you want to spend on the lawn installation? How pristine do you want your lawn to look when it's done? Do you want it to look pristine instantly or are you willing to work with it a few years to get rid of the weeds? Do you have strong opinions about using chemicals on your property? How much time do you have to devote to this project? Final thought: be patient with yourself in this process. People have spent years in the lawn installation business dialing in their preferred approach and steps. Lawn installation can be done DIY, but there's definitely a learning curve. The right tools help and our Customer Service Team is here to offer advice as well. Give us a call sometime. Take care, Shane! Matt

@@ABIAttachments I have 10 acres that is mostly pine trees and am forestry mulching all the unwanted trees. I can't grind them down as efficiently because of the sandy soil so there is a lot of debri ! I am impressed with the SR3 that it efficiently rakes, levels and removed all the spoils. This is hands down the most valuable attachment for my skid steer. What a time saver!
