Secrets are meant to be kept. Especially when the truth will change everything.
Since the death of her mother, Abigail Blakeslee has lost any desire to become a debutante and enter Society. But now, foregoing her first Season has brought an unwanted invitation to join her aunt and cousins for a house party at Timpton House, the large estate of the Stanton family.
Reluctantly accepting, Abigail is thrust into the vexing world of social propriety and matchmaking she had hoped to avoid. More vexing still is her cousin’s suitor, the young Timpton heir-Edwin Stanton. Moody and distant at times, remarkably endearing at others, Edwin seems a puzzle she can never solve, but can never quite put away. But then, Abigail has her own secret to hide-her own mystery to conceal. Perhaps such puzzles are better left unsolved, or perhaps love can find a solution.

After about 10 minutes I just closed my eyes and allowed the pictures you created with your words to take me away. I saw every character and place and felt every emotion. I smiled, laughed, cried, was frustrated, happy, got upset, felt the love and the healing. It was a rollercoaster of emotions brought on by a clever and richly talented wordsmith. So what happens next? Will Abigail’s brother and best friend have a story? Does Abigail’s story continue and we get to know her husband better? Is there an other book waiting in the wings? I do hope so. Like so many other readers I thank you for making your books available on you tube. I wish you much success.❤😊

I just found your channel, subbed and started listening right away. I just listened to the Part about "uncle" and his description of going blind. This is the first time I have heard such an accurate account. I myself am blind. I was born with cataracts and then, at age 16, developed glaucoma. I'm almost 50 yo now. Over the course of the last few years, as all treatments have been exhausted, I started losing my vision......exactly how you described it. I'm totally blind in one eye with only light perception and have limited central vision in the other. These audiobooks that you and many of your colleagues have shared are my TV. As you mention in the book l use my hearing and sense of smell to make up for the vision I've lost. My other senses have gotten sharper. I loved hearing that referenced too. I am so grateful you have been so generous with your work. Thank you! BTW, I loved the book before a character I could relate to was introduced now I love it even more. Even if he is not central to the story. 😊

What a difficult hardship to endure, but I admire your attitude and your willingness to share a small part of your story! Thank you for that. And thank you for your kind message. I am glad you related to Mr. Stanton (he is up there for one of my favorite characters I've ever written) and that you have found several authors on KZfaq that can bring you a bit of the joy you so fully deserve! Hugs to you.

According to the Bible e.g.the lettere of Paul such things are bad for us. Through a long challenging life I have lived with the message of the Bible and it has protected me from so much and Jesus, the Saviour and Prince of Prince, has become everything to me- the best helper and BFF in any circumstance!- May Jesus keep and call all to the love and salvation of Him. Seriously a really really good book. From the first moments of its beginning till an hour till the end - it was spellbindingly addictive! I think I only paused it twice till I reached the 10th hour! I loved the character development of Abigail... I only wish there would have been more character development of the guy... can't remember his name, SPOILER - the guy she fell in love with. But seeing as it was written in first person, it only makes sense we would know Abigail really well, and not know any of the other characters at all... But it's the story I loved! The plot - the storyline! so so so so good! and interesting! The way it was unfolded and the tension of not knowing - SPOILER - if that guy would pick Abigail or her cousin! It was really well written. AND the plot twist!!! at the end! lol - so fun! It's just the ending... it's so funny - I don't know how it happened... but like SPOILER - at about the 10 hour mark when that guy and Abigail declare their love for each other and I'm just so happy and I do not want the story to end... and then it doesn't... I don't know if it was just me... because I had been listening all day long only pausing twice... but dang - this last hour just seems to never want to end... I'm trying to figure out what happened... cuz at first I did not want their story to end... and now I'm finding it hard to listen till the end? What the heck happened!? It's got to be me! Cuz I was seriously so in love with this book... It has to be that I listened to it all at once... What ever the reasoning - everything else about this book I loved! OH! And no sex! You can always tell the skill of an author that can tell a story - and keep the reader interested and use no sex... seriously great book!

Haha. I love your comment and your honesty! As my debut novel, I think the reason the ending seemed long is that I didn't adhere to typical genre expectations. I wanted to tie all the loose strings up before it ended, many of which probably would have done well in an epilogue. But live and learn; and honestly, I recently had this one re-edited to give it a little TLC, but when I went to change the end, I couldn't. Writing this story was a magical experience for me, so I decided to keep it how it came--long ending and all. ;)

I love that. There were so many fun/wacky games played during the Regency, but this particular one, my dad actually invented and played with us as children, and I felt like it fit in too perfectly with the other games of the period to not use it. So it's my nod to him. ;) And I also love Wendy. She's so talented!

At fhe same time, i didn't want it to end. I seem to understand it was your first book so i got it. I love the resilience of Abigail. Uncle Stanton was delightful. I would have loved to hear more of Edwin side of the story. We got it at the end though. Is there a book on Abigail brother? Do you give us news on Abigail and her husband in another book? Honestly, it is the first time i listen a story again as soon as its ended. I want to buy all your books now. And the narrator Wendy Wolfson is excellent. Best choice ever as her voice and tone are soothing. Thank you, thank you!

“The End” culminated, the story from my 1st comment @ 4hrs5’ . ❤My setup of characters Burst forth to total wondering & intrigue…the wicked Aunt & her eldest daughter felt like betrayal of e very thing good. Tears, infectious influenza worry (seldom anyone survived, until aspirin then finally penicillin century’s of death or at least poor health to those did survive. Onto the final chapters,Edwin from his investigations became Abigail’s loss of him…Then POW!!! Fabulous Read/audio & the perfect magic of all kinds of Love, I ThankYou, Jess Hellman, some movie in my mind by just listening…

Very much enjoying this superbly written novel. Particularly appreciate the time stamps. Might it be possible in the future to make the chapters considerably shorter, say no longer thn 15 minutes each? Because it's impossible to move the bar in the midst of a chapter, one has to always begin at the very beginning of a chapter, and for example, I'm now listening for at least the third time the first 30 - 60 minutes or so of chapter 5. Missed the latter part of chapter 4 compleely because I couldn't bear to have to hear the first 40 - 60 minutes of it again. One misses quite a bit, having missed a significant part of a chapter. And the story is so good it's confusing and disappointing to have to piece together what may have happened when so much of a chapter was left unheard. Rather than "go by the book" as it were, referring to the hard copy version, a print chapter can easily be broken up into shorter "chapters" without harming the pleasure of the listener, whether an Audible or KZfaq listener. Thank you very much in advance for considering this.
