" That's The Way " is my favourite track on the criminally underrated Led Zep 3 . A beautifully moving song .

Being very old (old enough to have seen Led Zep live) I really enjoy seeing a younger generation discovering the music I grew up with. Very good video. insightful!

You might not believe this but back when this album came out, us teenagers smoked some grass and listened to LZ III. And we all said "far out, man, Led Zeppelin is heavy".

Since I've Been Loving You was the very first Led Zeppelin song I heard on the Friday Rock Show in 1980 when I was 13. I didn't know who the hell it was until Tommy Vance announced it at the end...it blew me away, especially Plant's voice range when he hit the highest note in his career.

I agree with the Out on the Tiles song!! So underrated, but it's always been my favorite track on this one!

III is my favourite album of theirs. I really love how the hard rocking side A, kicked off with arguably one of their heaviest songs contrasts with the acoustic, sweeter and mellower side B.

The band themselves definitely appreciate "Since I Been Loving You," since they kind of rehashed it on "Tea For One." It's the only time they ever repeated themselves.

I remember getting the bus into Sheffield town center in 1970 to buy LZ3, and coming home disappointed that because of the fancy packaging the record cost £2, 8 shillings not the £2, 3 shillings I had in my pocket. In 2007 I spent over £1000 to visit London to see them at the O2 , times change.

3 has always been my go to Led Zep album. This is where, I believe, they really married folk and rock in a very compelling way.

John Paul Jones played on some of the Donavan albums. I think he played on Sunshine Superman, by Donavan. I love the Zeppolin songs where John Paul Jones plays the Church Organ on them. It makes those songs spiritually connect to my soul.

I never liked “Hats Off To Roy Harper” either until it came up while I was driving downtown on a bleak, cloudy late night. It gave me chills! Because of the effect on his voice, Plant sounds even more eerie than usual. It’s positively a spooky listen. Now I enjoy the tune.

I think Jimmy Page went to art school, his mom was an artist. He was so popular he had to live in the country. In his time then put in the country he came up with his Sitar and Blues unique style. They asked Kieth Moon the who's drummer how the gig went. Kieth replied: "Like a led zeppelin.' That's where they got the name.

That's The Way is one of the prettiest songs I've ever heard. Especially the live version from How The West Was Won. I'd like to think that's what ascending into Heaven sounds like.

I was 15 (1971) when I bought this, I had a friend that’s cycle was covered in the LED Zeppelin name, he was bonkers on them. At this time I only had a few singles that came with my portable record player my mum bought. I had heard bits of this record and this was to be the very first record I actually bought. I still remember sitting on the floor in my bedroom and putting this record on and listening to the amazing sound that came from this album. My love of music had begun.

This album is my fav of all Zep albums. It went to show that Led could dial it down and STILL be good. I always thought Zep were nothing but hard rock but I legit love the folk rock aspects to it.

My brother turned me on to Zeppelin when I was about 12... I've been a zeppelin fanatic ever since and now I'm 53... I really enjoyed your presentation... I was doubtful... But you did a really nice job and I think I actually learned a couple things... thanks I'll watch again 👍

I am currently reading a great book on Led Zeppelin: Led Zeppelin - The Biography written by Bob Spitz. It was published last year. He's done a lot of research. We read how it all started, about the recordings, the songs, the albums, the negative press and the infamous US tours. As a reader you follow the band almost from week to week. But Spitz also writes about the dark side of Led Zeppelin. About the violent alcoholic that was John Bonham, the excessive drug use, about manager Peter Grant and about Jimmy Page and his short relationship with a girl called Lori, at the time only 14 years old. Anyway, the book gives a fascinating insight into the 1970s as well. Highly recommend .

My favorite Led Zeppelin album

I’ll have to agree with your opinion on Hats off To (Roy) Harper, I definitely didn’t like it at first. Actually, I didn’t really like LZIII as a whole at first either. It sounds way different than their other albums, it’s almost like a disfigured acoustic album that’s been cut up and sewn back together but in a mature way that I can’t really describe in words. But back to Roy Harper, just like the album as a whole, it takes a few listens to feel like you actually get the meaning. It’s almost like a perfect “down south sound” that’s just raw and gritty and will definitely turn listeners away the first time, like you’re not ready for the song yet. You’ll get there. I dig the review you made it was very well said! Keep up the good work!

It was all about the old sailing ships from Nantucket that traveled the world hunting whales, the only source of lamp oil. Herman Melleville is one of my favorite authors. He loved the ocean. On a side note Mountains lead singer also produced the Dead Boys Album ' We Have Come For Your Children'. The Dead Boys were living at his house in Miami. Thats when, where, Popiarty's wife shot him in the head, just after breakfast I think. Thanks again.

Hey Abigail. I just watched a YT video on how to fix the rivet on your (and many other) LZIII pinwheel. Pretty simple process really. I also found a company that sells an LZIII pinwheel turntable slipmat. I almost ordered it, but opted for a Vertigo swirl instead.

If you look closely on the dead wax, make sure that the light is shining on the record. You get two messages. Side one: “So Mote Be It” Side Two: “Do What Thou Wilt” You probably know that Jimmy page was into Alistair Crowley. You've probably mentioned this on one of the Led Zeppelin episodes. It's on the original pressing and on the reissue of Zeppelin 3. That is on vinyl. I have the reissue pressing. The one with the 2014 remaster. I love how this record looks.

Led Zeppelin had a very varied recording career I think, but that was back in the days when major bands and record labels seemed to take more chances with their output. To me every album was different and you never knew what would be on there when they released a new one. Live though John Bonham drove them so hard it felt like the whole stage would lift up and roll over the audience. I'm already really looking forward to your next Vinyl Monday video, thanks again.

in the future the stick man's identity on zep IV is discovered by an academic but I wouldn't know about that because i'm in the vinyl monday timeslip and the lz III episode! the first three tracks are so varied. immigrant sounding strangely like richard Rogers bali ha'i but it's a good start. friends insistent acoustic settles nicely in the brain. since i've been loving you is an early example of Abby staking out her territory and going all out to highlight music she loves.jpj's keyboards are so right on this and the band strip things down with confidence. the playing and the singing are good on III. again Abby the recognition of plant's voice is correct ( i will like his voice in the distant future). there's a diminution in side 2 but it's a brave album. let's forget the weird closer. the 1000 is justifiably celebrated and already plans are being made. the thinking that will make VM special. the devoe movement gathers pace. everybody can sense that the journey will be a good one. (wow I'm taking the time traveling seriously).

Hello, Abby ! Regarding Track 9: ‘Bron-Y-Aur Stomp’, it is pronounced: brom-rar ― and it means ‘Golden Breast’ in the Welsh language. Bron-Y-Aur is also the name of the cottage that Jimmy Page & Robert Plant stayed at in May of 1970. It was a place that Robert would go to visit on holidays with his family when he was growing up. It was a place he was very fond of as a child and had happy memories of ― and so, he suggested to Jimmy that they should go there for a working holiday to write. As there was no electricity or running water, they had to ruff it during their time there. The cottage is located in a place called Snowdonia: a mountainous region in northwestern Wales and a national park of 823 square miles (2,130 km2) in area. It was the first to be designated of the three national parks in Wales, in 1951. The cottage and the surrounding area inspired, in part, the songwriting and themes of some of the songs on Led Zeppelin III. So, now you know. Take care. Cheers ! 🥂

I really appreciate these videos. Great work. The Rolling Stones Mobile Recording Studio was a hallowed out truck that was stuffed with mixers and tape machines. It allowed for recording on location-- You could park it outside a home or an estate (a '70s trend-- Zeppelin IV was recorded at Headly Grange, for example). You'd run the cables into the house and could use the attributes of the space to produce -- say a massive drum sound in a stairwell. The band could also live and relax (get high) on the property in between recording sessions.

First thing came to mind with the cats on the printed records is when you spin Dope Lemon’s new records Rose Pink Cadillac, it shows a cat in a Cadillac driving around the turntable.

Nice choice, Abby! LZ III is an underrated treasure filled with gems, as well as a few songs I confess I still don't "get." The artwork and packaging are stellar, even down to the "Do What Thou Wilt" / "So Mote Be It" styled etchings in the vinyl.

Out on the Tiles just shows how awesome Bonzo was. He starts out with such a dirty groove and the last half of the song is sprinkled with 16th triplet fills which is a drummer's wet dream

I've been watching your You Tube channel since Day 1and I really enjoy your show. You present your commentary with so much passion and joy. Your take on each album is insightful and most of the time, I do concur with you. Plus, you got a Grace Slick (circa early Jefferson Airplane) thing going on that's really quite alluring. Anyways, Led Zep III is an underrated masterpiece. I'm drawn to the folksy, Celtic nature of the LP. Great video!

I think one of the reasons Out on the Tiles is under-rated (and not well-known) is that Zeppelin didn’t play it live. They did it like twice - and it was stunning! Check out the Blueberry Hill bootleg. The song was sung pretty high all the way through, especially the chorus. I’m guessing after Plant’s voice blew out in 72/73 they never even considered playing it anymore. It was just too high. But what a guitar riff - like a machine gun!

I always liked that album, one of the best by them. I heard it first on the vinyl as a child, later bought a cd version, which i sill have.

This is my fave Zep album and in my top 20 fave albums of all time. It's such a part of my DNA at this point, it is really hard to imagine what it'd be like if I'd never heard it. "Almost Famous" is my all-time favorite film, and the way they used "That's The Way" and "Tangerine" in it just made me love it even more. I do kinda wish they'd have put "Hey Hey What Can I Do" on the album as it's closing track instead of "Hats Off To Harper", and just used the latter as the 45 single B-side since it is basically a throwaway track (I respect the idea of them being experimental and weird but.....meh.)

The first time I heard LZ III I was slightly disappointed there weren't more bangers on it, but I grew to appreciate the folksier side of the band and this album. Hats Off To Roy Harper--not sure it works best as the closer--I did feel like you when it closed the LP, but I like the grittiness of this song. I often wonder if Hey Hey What Can I Do would have been the way to go by simply having it on the LP in place of one of the side 2 cuts. BTW Abigail, I am a Gemini too! 🤩

yesss, this is my fav led zep album along with houses of the holy! i remember hearing tangerine in almost famous and absolutely falling in love with it. i would say that, bron-y-aur stomp and since i've been loving you (esp 'the song remains the same' version) are my faves off of the album

I just listened to my Led Zeppelin III deluxe edition LPs, the remastered LP and the companion LP, a few days ago. I hadn't heard it in a while and it was really great. I've always loved this album myself. You did have a very great description of it in your video. Tangerine is a song I've had going in my head, and heart, a lot lately. "Thinking how it used to be, does she still remember times like these? To think of us again...and I do yeah". Wow, the first time I heard that it struck the cords in my heart and all these years and decades later it still does! I think that this song and Ten Years Gone go hand-in-hand. If you've ever seen any of the 5/25/75 Zeppelin boots of Earl's Court, or if you've heard them, Robert Plant starts off TYG by saying "this is about the first love, the one you never forget... Ten Years Gone". I love that transition between Friends and Celebration Day. Friends just morphs into Celebration Day in such a cool and awesome way. It almost sounds like it's just one song. And Since I've Been Loving You, wow again, words can't even describe how incredible this song is. But I do love the live versions just as much. Since we all know that live Led Zeppelin's songs never did remain the same (however TSTRS usually did sound pretty close to the studio ironically) and I loved hearing Page and the rest of the band take off from the various renditions live. Led Zeppelin III was definitely an incredible masterpiece of 1970 and it has remained one through the years. I only wish I had been old enough to have gone and and seen Led Zeppelin live! That would only make me that much older today. But I think it would have been worth it 🎶 I enjoyed your video on LZ III and I look forward to seeing what else comes along. to clear up the blurb you posted at 03:38 no Page did not paint the old man carrying sticks on the cover of Led Zeppelin IV . That is a actual painting that Robert Plant found at a thrift shop and still has it to this day. :)

Side 2 has that amazing mixture of acoustic instruments with Bonham's pounding drums at levels that sound KILLER. Listen to Bonzo's entrance halfway thru Gallows Pole - I laugh every time at the thrill of it.

I was not a first-generation Zeppelin fan -I started buying Zeppelin albums in 1979 - but I do remember III being a bit of a speed bump. It went like this: I had bought Presence and Led Zeppelin II, and then one day I heard this incredible sound through the wall between my room and my brothers' room, and it was "Immigrant Song." I was transfixed. I knew it was Led Zeppelin, but I had no idea what album, what the title of the song was, nothing. And since my brother and I were typically estranged in the same house, I did not knock on the door and ask him what he was listening to. I didn't ask later either. I just went down to the local record store, pawed through the Zeppelin albums, and bought IV, because I thought that the incredible screaming, soaring sound that I heard just might have a romantic title like "The Battle Of Evermore." Boy, was I wrong. After I spent a couple of weeks becoming infatuated with IV, despite being totally off about "Battle", I finally learned that the song I was looking for was on Led Zeppelin III, so I bought that. I still have that copy actually. And yeah, "Immigrant Song" still knocked my socks off. An amazing, classic song and performance. I can't imagine how it would have disappointed anyone. However, the rest of the album fell completely flat with me. I was like, "Where is all the rock'n'roll? What is all this blues/folk/borderline CSN stuff?" But I persevered, and after listening to it every day for a couple of weeks (which was my standard practice at the time), I developed a sort of grudging appreciation for it. Especially the first side, with the post-psychedelia of "Friends", the hollerin' blues of "Since I Been Loving You", and the stomping rock of "Out On The Tiles." I pretty much blew off Side 2 though. It wasn't until many years later, when I heard the BBC Sessions stellar take on "That's The Way" that I really began to appreciate Side 2. These days I love the album and regard it as an important and necessary step in Zeppelin's development. I love the story of Page and Plant and their paramours decamping in Snowdonia to write the album, I envy them what was surely a lovely season of creativity and friendship. I suspect that when they released this album, they thought they were giving their audience a wonderful and intimate musical gift, and were perhaps surprised that it fell flat with so many people. But I still can't find a soft spot for "Hats Off To (Roy) Harper." Damn silly nonsense, that track.

Led Zeppelin 3 got it. Physical Graphitti is still my favorite.

I love Led Zeppelin III it’s one of favorite Led Zeppelin albums. I think this album is very underrated nobody talks about this album because of how different it was at the time of it’s release. My favorite songs off the are Immigrant Song, Celebration Day, Tangerine, Friends, Out On the Tiles and Since I’ve Been Loving You.

This is my favorite ZEPPELIN album, I actually saw them do this album in concert on their 3rd tour. I had seen the 1st and 2nd tours, but this was a completely different LED ZEPPELIN. Jimmy Page had a full beard and was wearing a fishermans hat, and I just thought he was flipping off any preconceived ideas that anyone had of him and his fantastic band. They opened up with The Immigrant song and Robert Plants war cry left the whole audience spellbound. They continued with a very hypnotic Since I been Loving you, and continued with other fantastic Rockers and were driving the audience into more of a trance with every song. Then after John Bonhams fabulous drum solo - by the way if you never saw ZEPPELIN live you never really heard the real band and especially BONHAM cuz the studio recordings don't even come close to capturing his killer drum sound, I've seen many many concerts and no ones drums sounded as full and thunderous as BONHAMS drum sound live ! Anyway - after his Solo the band proceeded to the chairs that had been set up for them and launched into a 45 min. Acoustic set, as most of the audience disrespectfully began to leave. I couldn't Fuckin believe it, cuz they sounded fabulous doing the entire 3rd album live in concert, and as I sat there and enjoyed every note that was being played I thought, it's really sad that the idiots that were leaving just didn't get it ! And what a bunch of 2 faced so called fans of the best Rock Band of all times !!!!!!!!

The negative critics never got It, Jimmy Page was all about mixing acoustic with electric guitar, Jimmy Craked it on Led Zepp 3 , as for Since i'v Been Loving you , your right on the money Abigail , this has to be Page's greatest solo ever , simply stunning

I'm one of the few people on the planet that loves Hats Off to Harper. It reminds me of an old 78. It's been a favorite of mine since I got the lp from my best friend for my birthday in Jan. 71.

Loved 3 right from the first time I heard it.The rock stuff is brilliant and the acoustic stuff is magnificent.Well written tunes from start to end.It's the first album I heard from the band and is as timeless as most of their albums.This along with Physical Graffiti and LZ 2 are my faves.

I’m lucky enough to have the Classic Records reissue of this record. I just got it yesterday and I listened to it for the first time. It melted my face off, I can’t believe how good the recording really was!

Funny, I remember my original copy of Led Zep III where the "spinner thingy" was riveted to the cover in the center so you weren't able to take it out... or maybe it was the drugs remembering this!

These include `Melody Maker` `Disc & Music Echo` `Record Mirror` `New Musical Express` `Music Now` `Record Retailer` and `Music Business Weekly` USA reviewers gave a thumbs down, but UK ones - a big thumbs up!

I liked "Thank you" was one of my favorites....it was the sign off song on the AM station I listened to in jr high.
