Thanks Abi, this is really helpful for knowing how and when to alter the tread tensions and stitch length. Also the meeting up and chaining off too. Could you possibly show us how to adjust the cutting width on the SINGER S0101L. I can’t see any markings to indicate positioning it. I thought I could use a sharpie to mark it if I knew what I was doing 😉 I’ve just used mine to overlook the edges of the fabric I’m using to re upholster my office chair before I sew it together on my sewing machine. Your videos have been invaluable to me in learning how to use my overlocker. 👍🏻💕

I don't use my overlockers as much as I really could. I love these tips as they can easily be forgotten when I don't get to my machine. Thanks so much. That meeting the first stitches and finishing off without the awful pointy bit is so clever but I always seem to forget. My memory left and has been replaced by a Forgettory!! If I watch enough times and, importantly, get my overlockers out, I may actually remember things! I love all your hints and tips and look forward to your next ones. My Singer overlocker keeps stopping as the cable is loose and falls out. I've jammed it in with a little bit of paper but I wonder if that is the best way to keep it connected. Very frustrating but I kept it because it has the sleeve arm which is so useful. I have no idea if it is the cable that is loose or the machine connection. The machine was well out of guarantee before I found the courage to use it! Maybe I will try a new cable and, if that doesn't work, then I will just have to carry on with the bit of paper!
@AbisDen
@AbisDen 3 жыл бұрын

Hi. Brilliant videos, thank you. The problem I have had is that some of my seams have snapped in wear or after being washed. I wonder why that might be? Also, am I right in thinking that with a four thread overlocker, the seams should be strong enough on their own, rather than having to do seams first on a regular sewing machine?

Great tips; interesting to see these techniques on thick fabrics like the fleece and fleece/furry fabrics you use here. I’m guessing the same approach works w/wovens plus some slight adjustments.
@AbisDen
@AbisDen 2 жыл бұрын
Absolutely. Just a tweak here and there until you’re confident with the stitch out. If it all fails go back to the standard settings and try again! ✨ woven fabric need hardly any change at all.

Hi abbi, i returned to this video having saved it - so glad i did as haven’t used my lidl singer overlocker in some time and i have now bought some stretch fabric to make a new dress and was nervous of attempting it. i was repairing some stretch dresses and on shortening hem it got all wavy, will try again with yr advice. What is yr view on stretch plastic for shoulder seams ? Will seam tape do the job? Yr channel is wonderful.
@AbisDen
@AbisDen 11 ай бұрын
Thank you. The plastic (stretch) tape for shoulders is excellent. I’ve used it a few times. The problem is that it’s plastic. Instead, try a piece of woven fabric cut on a slight bias so you’ll have a little stretch. Much better for the environment. Using your scraps and saving you money x triple win x

For the fleece fabric I used regular universal size 12 needles. I do not use ‘serger’ or ‘overlocker’ needles because they’re not special. They are just ordinary universal stretch needles and will not work on this fabric.

I've been sergeging for years but can I politely ask why you use the foot pedal as a hand pedal or is it just for demonstration only I have two serger one I brought one I won plus I have two sewing machines for the same reason but I use the sergers more than the machines I'm in the UK and I use the moon threads I sew both for myself and to earn myself a small amount of pin money I've just started sewing lycra and other stretch materials I was a bit daunted at first but the first garment I made was from some reduced lycra (yes you may laugh but I have a very large teddy bear almost two foot tall ) he is now sporting a pair of lycra shorts and top and I also I hasten to add I'm sixty two on the 1/10/22 and they look perfect I've since made myself cropped leggings and full length leggings

Haha! Sounds like you're a fun sewer. It's great to let your hair down and you just enjoy sewing, that's brilliant.
