Dean and founder of Moonstone Manse, a school of magic focusing on, is this right, spell component replacement?
Yeus. We Here at Moonstone Manse, or Manse on sea, like to say we concentrate on components. It’s a known fact that moonstone can be used to replace almost any spell component the question is: how much and what spells.
We’re doing a segment on schools of magic, and I’ve heard you are particularly well schooled in abjuration magic.
Yeus. Hwil it’s no secret that moonstone works especially well in the abjuration school. And by default I suppose I have become somewhat of a specialist in the field. I even teach Abjuration 102 from time to time.

@@kylestanley7843 By the rules as written, having temp hp from multiple sources is a waste because you can't add to temp hp (you can only set it to a certain number, not add that amount). Counterspell- pretty handy, only against spellcasters. Shield- +5 ac is legit, but high ac doesn't always work, especially in high levels. I love those spells too but they don't solve all problems. ward however, is more versatile, doesn't require spell slots and at level 6 you can bounce it between your buddies. Overall, you probably wouldn't want to blow your reactions too early and be more tactical with reactions than other wizards, thats it.

I think the trouble starts with his tiny, squished (but oh-so-fancy!) pug nose. He can hardly get any air through that little thing, so he needs to breathe mostly through his mouth. Mouth-breathing, though not particularly refined and graceful, can normally still be accomplished with subtlety and dignity and grace given practice, but _this,_ in turn, is complicated by his... broad... pronounced... and... _distinguished_ (and oh-so-manly!) jawline, which severely distorts the flow of air into, out of, and around the mouth, resulting in Master Hawkryn's need to _fully_ open his mouth and take as deep a breath as possible, in the hopes of getting _at least_ enough air down his windpipe to keep his ticker tocking.

So I like the idea for this series, and I like the schtick where each school has a different host. The only drawback is that it doesn't get into the Wizard spells for each School and how these might matter (eg: Grim Harvest is a nice bonus, but not many low level Necromancy spells actually cause damage). I get that there's a LOT of wizard spells, but for some Schools there's a manageable number (eg: There are only three 1st level Divination spells, and they are all rituals, so taking advantage of the Savant discount isn't going to eat into spell slots) which you could highlight briefly

I don't think it's the most powerful option by any stretch. It's low level spells are quite good, especially when cast by low level characters. AC 13 without having to put it on is a big deal, and shield is always great. Do it if you want to, of course, but I feel like it's a bit of a letdown because it's level 2 and 6 school bonuses BOTH rely on you actually casting a lot of high level abjuration spells, especially in combat. I don't feel that that's easy to do as you increase in levels. It seems to be very hard to find good abjuration spells in combat that are not counterspell, and counterspell feels like it's both kind of the "anti fun" spell but also is at risk of being hard countered by DM bullshit if you overuse it. But there isn't a lot of other good stuff I have found. Also, the mage armor scales very poorly. If you get ambushed and you need to armor someone up who doesn't have time to don full plate.... at level 1, 13AC is great. At level 10, 13AC is.... not at all the same thing. Honestly, I feel like there is a ton of overlap between what a transmuter does and what an abjurer does, and I don't feel that's to the advantage of the abjurer. They both buff their own team quite a bit, but the transmutation stone is pretty versatile and powerful and only takes up the level 6 arcane tradition, not the 2 and the 6, and doesn't rely on you devoting a lot of spell levels per turn to casting transmutation spells, like the abjuration ward does. Abjuration, almost as much as evocation, seems to rely on constantly casting high level spells of your chosen school, but one of those traditions has fireball and the other does not, and there is a real risk of your dm just saying "enough of your bullshit" if you do nothing but cast counterspell all day every day.

@@timmietimmins3780 As someone that has played an Abjuration Wizard to 20 I have to disagree with you here. Sure, Abjuration does not have too many powerful spells at end game, but you really don't need a lot of Abjuration spells in your arsenal. By level 20 I had shield, counterspell, dispel magic, alarm, mage armor, and Otilluke's resilient sphere and that's all I really needed in terms of abjuration magic. I also feel like the ward scaled very well. By the time I was level 20 I had 169 max hp and my ward was an extra 45 on top of that. Not only was the ward worth nearly 25% of my max health but it also technically gave me more max health than our group's barbarian and paladin. All of this combined with magic resistance, shield, mage armor, and Otiluke's made me easily the tankiest member of the party. On top of that the improved counterspell and dispel magic means you pretty much just hard shut down other casters to the point that they basically can't do anything. I don't remember the exact numbers but by level 20 I think I only needed to roll an 8 or higher with counterspell to shut down a 9th level spell. Also, according to sage advice if you're concentrating on a spell and your ward takes damage but you don't, you don't need to roll for concentration. This makes them incredible for things like casting invsibility or fly on the whole party without having to worry about losing concentration and everyone dropping out of the sky.

It was tough to listen to. Still love your stuff though! Don't stop experimenting and improving! Edit: Just wanted to add that the writing was good. Hmm... I assume "Moon Stone" is stones from the moon? (instead of being some boring mineral thingy?) (Assuming it actually is sones from the moon) Would it be possible so somehow extend the range about how far you can cast a spell & actually *_use the WHOLE MOON as spell component replacements_* & cast some STUPIDLY INSANELY powerful magic? (but probably one time (or however many moons you happen to have in range?)) Ps. I have not played D&D :(
