You'd have to get a little creative. The first idea that comes to mind is to route each of the 16 channels to their own audio track within Ableton and record your entire project in real-time onto those tracks as mono audio files. Then you could import those audio files into something like Reaper and merge them into a 16-channel .WAV file.

Did you get the download to work?

Yeah. You could theoretically take any channel count and transform it into an ambisonic file. Blue Ripple and Ambisonic Tool Kit also make plug-ins specifically for going from typical surround formats to ambisonic formats.

All version of Max for Live prior to live 10 only allowed for stereo input and output. Ambisonics require at least four channels.

Yes, stand-alone max has supported this stuff essentially forever. But, max for live has been limited by stereo input/output until 10. There are a bunch of ambisonics libraries for max.

Yes. Add a surround pan device to each track that you want to move around the space. Then route those pan devices either directly out the the individual speakers or first through some sort of master tracks. If you do a little more digging you can find others that have experimented with similar ideas.

It's quite difficult to imagine this really. Would I need 8 tracks for 8 speakers if I wanter to send the sound to speaker 1, then 2, 3 and so on? Would I get 8 mono files that would be exported? I can't see a good explanations of this anywhere. I can understand the routing in this video, but I can't make sense of the M4L Surround Panner and the Envelop tools. Are you looking to work in surround (e.g. quadraphonic or 5.1) or binaural (headphone audio that sound similar to surround audio)?

@@DanielRDehaan I normally write and record music that's recorded as stereo, recently I've been asked to record a couple of works using 8 speaker set ups (+ 2 subs). Often people ask for 8 mono tracks (or 4 stereo) + 1 stereo mix. Normally I'd have a load of tracks in the arrangement view of Ableton and work with them (add automation etc) then export as stereo. No idea how to export as 8 mono tracks, or 4 lots of stereo! So reading this sort of thing is really helpful! :)

That is one of the main issues with decoding ambisonics to binaural audio. The decoding process relies on a set of generic HRTFs that don’t work for everyone due to the unique shape of everyone’s ears.

@@DanielRDehaan i have a real 7.1 headset which does not even let me hear difference between back and frond.. but on my speakers I hear clear 5.1 surround sound why ...because listening involves more than just hearing whith the wars but your hole body "feels" the waves of sound, so only white ears in a headphone 2 or 8 channels make no difference. No surround or around the head make no diverence

@@johnnyxthemacnifient5333this video was not encoded for surround audio. So you should not be hearing anything in surround on your 5.1 setup. The same would be true for your 7.1 headset. Your correct that the body is involved in how we experience sound, but I haven't heard of any study about how we use anything other than our ears to locate a sounds spatial location/direction. I would love to learn more about that if you can point me to any resources?

@@DanielRDehaan because we are not capable of repredusing this 2 ear surround or ambionic sound , means it is not fully clear how this works.I think that if look at the shape of the ear. That this does not only had to do with the front part of it but also the back side, and that I head nor seeing discuss yet. I am not seeing that this is so, but mait have to do with it. As the hole body part, sound are not only waves, but are also vibrations Whit's we feel . So .. so iif translate this to a headset than you can imagine that there are missing some part to really hear that surround around us like in real world. So we need something that can regenerate those vibrations on that part of the body rear or front withs tels us where it is coming from. So now on ONLY 2 speakers left and right can only tell if sond is far away or close, by 3 things.. reverb added to sound when furder away. A stereo sound gets more mono when more to the back, so that can be done.. but Al this on a head phone will not work as far as I have nothised this.
