You are able to "cross fade" in session view. Make sure each song has a midi note( to fire), create a blank midi clip in a new track set to IAC BUS (out) and Ableton will feed that midi note (set at the end of the song playing) back into itself and fire whatever midi signal is set to. Keep up the good work!

As someone just getting into the world of Ableton (for non church related gigs AND church) both loop community and Churchfront (Jake) have been so helpful! Love that you guys are leading the online training for this software. And collaborations like these are so helpful for someone like me trying to decide how to approach this powerful software. I'll stick with session view (for live work) but can totally see myself getting more into arrangement view as I get more proficient and nerdy with it. Thank you!

I use both. I make hip hop beats and I use session view to make the beat. For me the work flow of the session view just works for me. Once I have finished the beat I'll record it in to the arrangement view then arrange my song for there. That's why I love Ableton. I love it's flexibility and it allows me to create my music the way I want to with no compromise.

Just like any good comparison video, no one wins :) I've learned a lot from both these guys (and Ian MacIntosh which Jake mentioned.) The key is not to wed yourself to any one thing...take a little from everyone and make it your own. I actually use a little bit from all three of these Ableton-in-worship gurus and it works just like we need it to on a week to week basis. For the record though, I build each song in Arrangement View and then I have a master list in Session View (more like Ian MacIntosh's setup) and I use a MIDI foot pedal by Keith McMillan to trigger each song (and specific places in songs like the chorus at measure 28 for example). It's what works for us.

Nice video! I have a question about ability to trigger midi clips manually at desired times… I use arrangement view for my band sets. We have tracks for markers, navigation/flow control, initial midi control of guitar pedals, 2 measures of clicks click, lightkey dmx lights, and midi control of Songbook+ song chord chart displays on our iPads. After the first 2 measures of clicks in our in-ear monitors, the clicks stop and I have Ableton track the drum tempo. (Bandmates do not want to play with clicks). For the most part, we stay well synced with the song plan. I would like to be able to play midi clips (eg keyboards, brass, etc) , but fear any deviation will put them out of synch. Do you think there is any way (without another pc running another Ableton session) to setup a button to manually trigger a midi clip?

I prefer arrangement view because it’s much more flexible! Also anyone who is using arrangement view check out strange electronics setlist! It’s a max for live device that allows you to have every song in one big session and play each song in any order you decide!

Interesting thoughts guys, my only input would be that I think we'd have a difference between rehearsal and live. In rehearsal I'd think Arrangement view would be better so that we can jump around in songs as we practice and tweak things etc, but then live Session view might be great for ease of use in the moment. Hmmm?

I do arrangement view too, but I make general tracks for all the songs. like one drum track, and loop tracks and percussion tracks dependant on how many are in a song, same with bass and synth basses, guitars(acoustic guitars and dulcimers in its own group, and electric guitars on their own group) then group for keys, group for vocals. then I just put all of the songs there. I feel like its not worth it to have all of the tracks with their own channels, it makes everything cluttered versus having everything lined up. For example, all of the keys 1 tracks in the keys 1 channel, all of the eg 4 tracks in the eg 4 channel, and that applies to everything. But that's just me, since its easier to see, manipulate, and arrange in that manner for me

What happens if the worship leader, directed by the Holy Spirit, wants to 1. do a spontaneous in the middle of the song, 2. repeat a phrase, 3. jump between different parts of the song? How can I manage this if the whole song is runned by backing tracks and midi-automations (light, lyrics etc.)? I didn't get this part...

I was trying and struggling myself to figure it out.. Session or Arrangement view for Band Backing Tracks... So far I realized that the best thing is to use both! Arrangement to "arrange" and prepare tracks.. (automation tempo, volumes and so on) After that in shows.. export those and build a session view master. :) Am I doing it wrong? heheh

Awesome video! I have yet run a Sunday with tracks, but I'm leaning towards Session view since we won't be automating lighting and lyrics. The simplicity and speed may be better for volunteers. Now if I could import Sunday Keys for Ableton into my master Set list file I'd be set!

Love the videos! But could someone help advice me if I'm in session view and I arrange the scenes by Intro / Verse / Chorus / scenes. how can I just jump from 1 scene to the other without needing to click the next by Cursor or midi Controller ?

You must use the follow actions on each clip. Search ''follow actions from isotonik studios". This is the best way.
@dadondada41

I simply duplicate the clips into the a number of scens and then edit the start time of each clip - Very Long Winded; cant help but think there HAS to be a simpler way of doing that in session view.
@musicmanjflo
@musicmanjflo 4 жыл бұрын
Duplicate entire song on each clip and edit start places. This way, the only difference is when the song starts, but regardless of which clip you are playing, they all will play to the end. Check out Ian McIntosh for in depth solutions for this.
