I'm really blown away with push 2. It's so mind-blowing (and a bit overwhelming) to see what can be done with it. Such a quality build, obvious a lot of tlc went into designing it. Like you i'm an instrument musician who's been dabbling into digital music... oh such delight. Excellent video - subbed!

Thank you for this video. Watching this I found those hidden screws and also used a hairdryer to loosen the glue. I was able to have the confidence to take apart and repair my own push 2 after having accidentally thrown a large glass of red wine on it! I cleaned out the wine that was trapped between the carbon layer and the button circuit and it works perfectly again.

@@stanbekker Exactly what I did, worked like a charm. Make sure you don't clean the plastic sheet covering the pad contacts with alcohol though! I had some pads that were desensitized for years, and recently two pads died entirely and didn't respond no matter how hard I hit them. Cleaning the contacts made everything work good as new again. I was surprised that cleaning it actually worked so well.

Props! I had to open up my Ableton push 2 because of a common manufacturing problem: Some buttons get dirty or move over time and it was the only way to get it back in shape. I've had both push 1 and 2 and they made it a lot harder on the push 2. I've had a lot of issues with the million of sh*t screws they use for the machine. They would strip or get stuck. This was my 1st and last time trying on the P2.

@FORGHANIMUSIC 6 ай бұрын
@@idexmedia I actually didn't use a cleaner at all. I just used a microfiber cloth and wiped off any dust I saw. Which I honestly didn't see much dust. I'm wondering if the screws (both on the back of the push 2 and on the back of the circuit board got a little loose over the years causing the pads to not be close enough to the sensors making it difficult to play the pads) After I took everything apart, when I put it back together, I made sure to tighten each screw good.

Especially when it's only due to a weak link. Awesome with signatures, makes me think of emu emax with the ram bird 🐦😀

Beautiful presentation and after weeks of trying to decide on buying one vs getting the mpc touch, this video has served as one more affirmation to jump in! It is so apparent that Ableton has solidified itself as the Lamborghini of controller engineering! What is most impressive is the fact that all of this was done for their own software. Not even Maschine studio can touch this unit...and I can't wait to own one.

Hey Markus, I've watched this a few times now. Thank you for the video. I've been having issues with the pads on my Push 2. The first time was 3 years ago, where some of the pads we're always conducting. I assumed moisture so I put it under the intake of a box fan for a few days and it resolved itself. A few weeks back this started happening again so I tried the same method, which worked to some extent, but I still see issues. I think my best option is to open it up and clean the carbon sheet and traces. Do you have any recommendations on equipment to do this? My plan was just rubbing alcohol and a microfiber sheet. Please let me know if you have any tips or tricks! Thanks.

A couple of my encoders have started skipping values - does anyone know if its possible to clean them without taking it apart like this? Can they be cleaned just by taking the caps off?

my god, this is beautiful. I was thinking about getting a push 1 on ebay, now that the 2 is out, but I think I just might save up some money for this lovely thing. Also, I was hoping you'd do a patreon page at some point! subscribed!

Hello, i spilled some beer (i know, no drinks near the equipment) on my Push 2, and some pads lost the precise sensibility, should disassemble it and use some cleaner or something? I know its not going to be easy, but i need to try.

I have a group of 6 of pads in a single column that do not respond properly to low velocity. If I slowly apply pressure to the pad a note will eventually trigger with a value of around 40. So the playing dynamics are poor. The other (normal) pads with respond with a low minimum value of 1. My question: Is there a product that can be used on the carbon sheet and/or sensors that will clean and restore without damage? Thanks!

thanks for playing around with this monster! Would you have a solution for a broken ON/OFF power on push controller? do you know where to find the right piece and potentially any advice on how to change it? Thanks

Maybe you can solder the connection in a way that it is always on? From what I read online Ableton does not give out part numbers, or send out spare parts...

Hello Markus!! Great channel!! Very much enjoy you fixing and exploring gear from the guts. Anyway, i own the Push 2 and the other day i spilled a beer on it :/. It now boots up well and the display is fine. I do have a couple of the pads not working tho. The warranty will not cover this so my only option right now is to open it up and do a proper cleaning. Do you have any advice as how to do this? Things i would require etc. These pads seem pretty high-tech and i don't want todo more harm to them.

Some pads on my Push2 have to be hit really hard to ever respond. Can this be fixed by simply wiping the copper side of the transparent contact frame?

Wish I got to see close-ups of the back of the panel, and what microcontroller/fpga was controlling it all. Every software sequencer, USB interpretation, MIDI translation, and drawing operation for the screen are handled on a chip running a program somewhere. Would love to know if it's an AVR, ARM, FPGA, or ASIC.

+Michael Hawthorne Hi Michael. I am not sure what processor was under the screen. If I open it up again for any reason I will get some close up images of the main processor chip. Sorry I miss some things out but am learning as i go along. the more video's i make the more I get to know what people want in the video's . Best wishes from Markus.

Hey Mark, thank you for the his video! I had a leak in my room and my ableton push was hit. I saved the push but two things im stuck with. The screen is now blank and doesnt turn on. and I cannot seem to push the push back together. It always feel like something in the top left is stopping from letting me close the case completely. Its been 10 months since ive been able to use my push and its driving me crazy lol did u have any resistance when assembling the push back together?
@stanbekker
@stanbekker 3 жыл бұрын
I had some resistance, but I ended up inverting the play button :')... Make sure you wiggle every button a little bit until the upper frame falls past it. the blank screen is a difficult one to fix I'm afraid, could be a lot of things.

I recently bought a second hand Push 2 and noticed that the sensitivity of the pads was not balanced between the pads. I have already opened and closed it but I am having difficulties in resolving the issue of sensitivity. Any suggestion? Thank you very much.

What is your impression on black rubber button quality/longevity. There seems to be thin rubber coating above clicky button. There is a thread on ableton forum where rubber got scratched by nails and the led light shines through the scratch. Thanks.

It depends on how you use it. I have used it a lot in and out the studio and the buttons are ok and the rubber is great. Now I'm having problems with some pads near the slide bar I have to press it hard to function. So I'm gonna open it to clean up
