I own a 2001 Pontiac Grand Prix and had the drivers side wiper stop in up position. I followed this video and fixed my wiper. TY. Update: I turned my wipers on in freezing weather and both wipers got all floppy, now I need to re-fix both of them . UGHHH. At least I can find help on KZfaq.

I have found as of late the spring catch mechanism which is what connects with the metal tab to be sticking in the closed position. You then have 2 choises; 1, You can replace the drive. 2, you can lubricate the mechanism heavily & work the catch till it moves freely. NOTE at the minimum, turn off & remove the key from the ignition! If the wiper drive decides to turn on, you could easily loose a finger!

Ingot2001 civic European model. I want to clean the water collect are below that. The wipers are stuck, took the bolts off but no motion what ever. Sprayed d40 on it but still no luck. Mine are different than what you showed. Do you know any tricks to loosen them?

This video is very helpful. I have an '05 impala. My dilemma is I have my wipers epoxied on because the cone shaped parts with the teeth were all stripped out. I am going to attempt to just tweak the plastic piece and see what i can do to get it off of there. I may just have to cleanly cut it and (once again) epoxy it together lol. Anyone have any suggestions?

mine were doing this tonight; and it's raining out.. pissed me off.. had to put it on high so it would keep going.. I'm afraid to tinker with things like this by myself; I don't really have the tools for it anyway.. I should just get it looked at... gonna cost me probably. ugh.

I agree with everyone else you are a lifesaver. I have this problem with my Firebird and I have been wanting to fix it for a while now just never had the time. I just got done adding a new radiator, thermostat and just replaced the water pump and now I am thinking might as well take the time to fix the wipers. How long did that take you about an hour or a little less?

DMV failed me because my wiper blades wouldn’t go to down position but work fine when you turn them off they stay up

I was trying to do this today I had bent the tab a few years ago and thought that's all I had to do today but the little piece that catches the tab is missing. So before you start make sure that little piece is still there without it you can't bend the tab make it work. It had taken me an hour to realize what was missing.

It turns on when ignition.Wipe 3 times than stops and up pisition or conus. And wont work when I turn switch. But if I turn ignition on first position it works and stop ...What is problem how to fix

Sounds like the wiper manufacturers are cutting corners. That piece of metal for the transmission gets bent back should never happen.
