It's only a few months until the first round of women arrives to join the retreat, and things are starting to come together. But, Debbie is struggling to understand the builders causing things to be put in the wrong place and even though her architect tells her not too Debbie pushes to make the kitchen island bigger but then realised after 20 man carry it in that it may actually be too big after all. Nothing is easy when redesigning a 400-year-old villa.
Wouldn't it be great if we could take a group of women somewhere nice and motivate them? This is the story of Debbie Travis' dream to build a perfect happiness retreat where women all over the world can come.

So she took a richly layered quirky history filled house and squeezed every bit of flavor out of it. Absolutely not an ounce of taste.

I have plans to migrate and renovate a small farm in S Europe. The idea of this type of expat woman to be a neighbour is horrific.

Why in the world would they not have taped off the size of that island on the floor so she could see it...or make a cardboard model? I love the idea of the project . She certainly appears to have great taste, but for a decorator, she keeps making (expensive, time consuming) amateur mistakes in the planning and process. And she will not trust the advice of the professionals they hire. Interesting videos nevertheless and gorgeous location... This will be fabulous when finished.

“WWDD” stands for What Would Debbie Do? I have admired Debbie Travis, her flair and creativity, and especially her authenticity, since the 90s and have missed seeing her shows. So much so that when I am making a decor decision that causes me to really wrestle with choices, I sometimes ask myself “WWDD?” 🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹 (even in emojis, odd numbers for display!). I’m very happy to see her thriving and I hope that she knows that she always has best wishes coming to her from America.

I find it difficult to understand that this will be a women's retreat. How many of her friends will take off from their homes & families to travel by plane? This would be a better use as a B&B with different rooms but a women's retreat is not logical. It's beautiful I just hope it comes to use. It's a lot of money wasted if 10 friends visit once a year.

There were 16 people living there... that big oven was used to bake bread for all of those people + guests & relatives. They probably baked early in the morning, nearly every day. That oven needed to be that big, otherwise you'd have to bake all day everyday with a smaller oven. I bet it makes great pizza too. 🙂

Debbie is on a very interesting journey. I have the impression that there is more to it than building a retreat - for other women... Maybe this retreat symbolizes her own inner journey to her own "inner villa and retreat"? This journey is about thinking less, giving up control and the dillusion of the "American way of life", learning a "new language" (your soul language), connecting with nature around you, overcoming obstacles, giving things time to grow and develop.

@@tigermoon44 There is a difference when you HAVE to learn.I moved to France over 40 years ago and was thrown into the deep end but meeting my french partner who didn't speak english helped. I then had an Italian boss so had to learn Italian to keep up. Later I moved to Brazil and again was thrown into another culture and it was tough, really tough but I had no choice but to learn. If it becomes a comfortable choice and you live with another english speaking person then you stay in your native language and I understand how comfortable that is especially with the stress of a build but they chose to live there and it's hardly fair to expect everyone to speak your language. Otherwise buy the translation devise, you speak into it in your language and it comes out in whatever language you ask it to. Like star trek !

for a project of this scope and inspiration (tute bella?) wouldn't hiring translators been an obvious solution? As an architect I have met every day people who are confident - from a few tv shows - that they know construction and construction trades as well as anyone. @Tika Nguyen I'm just not impressed with these designers anymore...The ones I thought were good and I liked...Seem to be very wasteful with their money. I like designers who are more "inventive" and "resourceful". I used to like her design show because she seemed to be able to do alot with a little...Something is going one with all these new design shows...and it's scary to watch!...ON HGTV IT SEEMS LIKE EVERY SHOW IS ABOUT SPENDING 100'S OF THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS AND THERE IS NO REAL CREATIVITY...IT'S "EVIL"!

@@lennysvibe She is not a designer really let alone an interior architect. More of a decorator/stylist. Great taste maybe, thats it. Not capable of 3D thinking, no proper planning skills. Everything seems like "oh I like this", "nobody got a 5m countertop, I get it", no its not too big, these tiles are cute… All design choices are moody, subjective without any substance… PLEASE don´t think thats how real designers work!!!

A client who wants one thing on paper and another in reality is not uncommon. She is getting grief here for her manner. She wants big stones, she should have big stones. She is the customer after all. Some cultures have no concept of customer service.
