From what the cyclist said, I suspect he said "I was in my lane" or words to that effect. It's amazing how many people assume that if they stick to their lane that any pass is a safe pass - I've even been told by the police that because I was in the cycle lane and the car didn't enter it, that the pass which we both agreed was less than 50cm wouldn't be enough to charge the driver with careless driving.

@@pinocchiomediam5055 Yes we do, with the exception of cars speedometers and road signs (most even have meters too). 1.5m is easier than 4.9ft

Do they still require cyclists to wear helmets in Australia by law? If so, how absurd. They need to abolish it. It doesn't improve rider safety.

Not only no, but one cyclist can ride in the bicycle lane, then two more side by side in the car lane. So they could have been riding 3 wide here and taking the whole left side of the road and it would be 100% legal.
